Here's my 30 minute video on The Power of Asking Questions

I'd like to thank @Kamphey for the nudge. It wasn't as scary as I thought and @loom was incredibly easy to use.

No time for a video? Summary 👇

Asking questions is a theme throughout my life starting when I got in trouble all the time as a kid for asking too many questions
I had an upbringing where things were very binary
In university Professor Steve Johnson @uaanchorage said something that wouldn't let me go
The concept of no universal truths eventually got me to question everything.

This tweet which led me to read @HalGregersen's book 'Questions Are the Answer' taught me to take it a step further and learn how to ask high caliber questions

Questions were a big part of my job as a product manager. Asking high caliber questions made me better at it
Question Bursts are great way to get teams unstuck.

Have everyone:

• Write 1 question per sticky note
• Write as many questions as possible in 2 mins
• Share the questions

It will enable you and your team to have collaborative, generative discussions.
To work with high caliber people and get high caliber service...

find people who ask high caliber questions
Asking questions with genuine curiosity and from compassion and grace helped me with tricky conversations with my ex
Asking thoughtful questions helped me figure out how to create space to have more moments of happiness in my life
When I got laid off from an amazing job at a great company, working on a fascinating project w wonderful people, I went into a bit of a funk until...

@curtisjcummings recommended I do #100DaysOfNoCode + I took @dvassallo's Portfolio of #SmallBets course and joined the community
Those courses led me to do tons of fun projects creating a bunch of cool things.

Can you guess the theme of my projects?

Asking questions!

It was completely unintentional.

I feel like I'm at the beginning of figuring out my purpose in life 🎉
Here's the video if you'd like to hear more details about how asking high caliber questions with genuine curiosity can change the way you work and live. loom.com/share/a055314b…

I discovered a passion I didn’t know I had

I’ve been drawing every day for the past 60 days out of pure desire, and…

I have my first design client meeting today!

Searching for a passion but don’t know how to find it?

Here are 6 steps to find yours
1. Listen to your gut

I didn’t know why I wanted to take Pencil Pirates

I was intrigued by the drawings

When @EvansNifty shared a post about her upcoming cohort, I felt a desire to take it

My thinking brain stepped in:

You promised yourself no more cohorts

I let my gut win
2. Try multiple things

You may not figure it out on the first try

I've taken 8 courses since January 1, 2022

I’ve enjoyed and learned from all of them

But this one unlocked something in me like no other

Finding your purpose is simple but not easy

With 7 career changes and getting laid off 3 times…

I felt like I failed at everything 😔

Last year it seemed

I STILL didn't know what I wanted to be when I grew up

My wake up call came from a series of events

🧵
Getting laid off from a cool job on the innovation team at a bank was hard, but the last layoff stung the most.

I shattered my target

They still let me go

Despite what grandma says.

There’s no security in being employed

My dad passed away last year.

He had been counting down the days to retirement since his 30s.

He passed away with a year to go.

I questioned:

What am I doing?

What is the point of anything?

How I built a cat facial recognition app that got 72K users within 4 months of release

🧵 Image
Working at a venture studio I was assigned an AI project, technology to see if your cat was happy or not. My mission was to turn it into a multimillion dollar company.

Step 1: Discovery - figure out who this is for

Cat owners?
Veterinarians?
Pet pharma?
Pet insurance?
Other?
Step 2: Discovery - run experiments

I infiltrated cat communities on Twitter, FB, IG, Reddit to find options for problems to solve

Problem 1: End of life decisions - pet owner: I don’t know if it’s time to let go.

It's a heartbreaking decision. Pets are family 🐱🐶

Day 39/39 #100DaysOfNoCode

Shipped my first digital product!

Great learning experience.

Reflection:

🧵
Biggest challenge:

I got stuck on trying to figure out how to get the properties to display on the page without the table. @HainingMax helped.

Create table then open a page from a cell. Anything in the table displays as a property Image
Databases are what makes @NotionHQ special. You can:

• see a calendar right on the page
• see how items connect in a calendar
• store files
• create tags for filtering

This is just the beginning
