FYI, if you know anyone who could benefit from this...
Virgin Media O2 have put in place a similar arrangement...

Three too...

(If I have forgotten other major networks, it's likely they have put similar measures in place.)

A thread to keep track of all Priti Patel's lies about the visa situation for Ukrainians.

Format: screengrab (in case she disappears the material) + link to original tweet.
Image
Note: to provide important context for Priti Patel's lies, I am also grabbing the tweet(s) that she's falsely responding to.

Yes, there's more. Every time someone makes the same point, Priti Patel responds with the same false information.

This is remarkable. Priti Patel is accusing David Lammy of spreading misinformation, using as evidence a link to the official UK Gov webpage that proves him correct.

For Ukrainians in Ukraine without British connections, the normal complex UK visa application regime applies.
My thread summarising the situation has now passed 1 million views. Pity Priti Patel wasn't one of them...
Here's a screengrab of Priti Patel's original tweet, in case it finally disappears when someone helps her to get a clue... Image

This tweet by Priti Patel is a masterpiece of obfuscation. (Automated translation provided via Google Chrome.)

Yes, the UK is making minor concessions for Ukrainians ALREADY in the UK.

But for everyone else, the "Welcome" mat is locked firmly away...

Here's the important detail of said "visa concessions".

And here's the current reality for Ukrainians in Ukraine (aside from family members of British nationals).

They have to cross a warzone, leave the country, and face the full panoply of visa hostile environment hurdles, including giving biometric data.

BBC buries this as the last-but-one paragraph...

"Visa applications from Ukraine for people who are not related to British nationals are currently suspended, meaning there is no legal route for them to enter the UK and claim asylum."
bbc.co.uk/news/uk-605188…
That's accurate, btw. The link below leads to the official UK government advice for Ukrainian nationals.

There have been some mild visa rule relaxations for certain Ukrainians already in the UK, and for family members of Brits, but everyone else is stuck.

For example, the Tories are quite happy to give seasonal workers already in the UK an extension, so long as they don't lose their jobs or try to change employer.

The UK government has announced a temporary new visa regime which may allow some Ukraine citizens into the UK.

All they have to do is drive through a warzone, grovel in a complicated process, and wait to find out if they're in the small lucky group...

And here's how a civilised country does it... Image

"The UK has stopped accepting visa applications from Ukrainians stuck in the country, meaning there is no safe and legal route for them to seek asylum in Britain unless they have British relatives."

Words are words. Deeds are deeds. Same old Tories. independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-n…
Meanwhile, in a civilised country...
BTW if you want to acquaint yourself with the cold, empathy-free instructions that accompany the temporary visa process, all the grim details are on the UK government website...
