Sad, crazy and disturbing. Putin lied and set-up his own soldiers. His days are numbered and at this point I don't find it impossible he'll be forcibly removed from office, possibly by the military. Of course what happens after that is a Pandora's Box.

- Humanitarian aid to be sent to Poland to support Ukrainian refugees there.

Explanation:

- Countries who respect human rights & international law should be able to depend on Switzerland.

- Argue neutrality is not violated as per Geneva conventions.
- Decision took time to ensure no violation of Neutrality.

- Had previously ensured Switzerland would not be used to circumvent sanctions.

- Military pharmacy will support Ukraine with medical supplies, incl. protective equipment, surgery equipment, defibrillators, breathing devices, & burn bandages.

- Airspace is closed to Russian aircraft, includes private jets.

- SWISS airlines has cancelled flights to Russia.
- Diplomatic & humanitarian flights are exempt from airspace closure (for example, if a Russian delegation has to go to Geneva).

- Reiteration: Measures taken today do not violate neutrality as per the interpretation of the Directorate of International Law.
- Offer of Good Offices remains open.

- In contact with Moscow and Washington - desire to keep diplomatic possibilities open.

- Commodity trading not affected by sanctions, as neither the EU nor other states have implemented such sanctions themselves.
- Economic impact towards Switzerland will be determined by developments in Ukraine but a general problem not foreseen. Also, Russia is not a 'primary market'.

- No energy-consequences are foreseen as we have gas reserves.

- Believe the actual use of nuclear weapons unlikely.

- As of today, all 4 EU-sanction packets have been implemented in their entirety.

- Russia export ban on "dual-use" and military equipment, anything for aerial- and space travel, and for oil refinement.

- Accounts of 223 people (incl. oligarchs) have been frozen.

So Russia finally realized it's unable to attack a bordering NATO state, as much as it would like to and definitely would were it not for NATO, so it's now going after vulnerable neighbors against whom they have a higher likelihood of winning.

Switzerland expands sanctions against Russia effective today to include banning purchasing, importing & transporting gold from Russia.

This is in line with the latest EU sanctions decided on July 21.

Assets from the bank Sberbank have also been frozen.
