I have never so felt the urge that gripped George Orwell to go an fight in Spain in December 1936 for the International brigade against Franco but really Hitler. Orwell didn't know then perhaps that MI6 had secretly flown Franco to North Africa to launch the Civil War. 1/2

Orwell discovered the Stalinists/KGB were ursurping & betraying the Spanish & were as bad as the Fascists & Nazis he was fighting. He returned injured to England & then discovered the appeasers & secret fascists at home trying to do a deal with Hitler. orwellfoundation.com/the-orwell-fou…
It was this life experience that filtered into his seminal works "Animal Farm" - a cutting parody of Stalinism & "1984" a gripping commentary of World war, totalitarianism & state oppression.

I heartilly recommend Stanley Johnson's 2009 autobiography "Stanley I presume" peppered with intriguing anecdotes. Here he recounts the Dec 1963 Mexico Trip, (in the wake of JFK murder) staying with Russian (spy) Boris Litwin, gifts and naming of Baby Boris in gratitude. ImageImageImageImage
It was this Time Magazine article from 1945 that alerted me to Russian Boris Litwin's financing of the Tilletts's in 1940 that led to the discovery of his connection to the Red Haven of US Communist spy ring & Mexican Marxist Artists in Mexico.
