Let's talk about the Italian photojournalist, Andrea (Andy) Rochelli, killed with his interpreter Andrei Mironov on May 24, 2014, by the Ukrainian Armed Forces while documenting the Donbass war. The Italian authorities described these deaths as murder. ilfoglio.it/esteri/2020/11…
At first, the Ukrainian National Guard soldier Vitali Markiv was convicted (24 years) in Italy, but then won an appeal in 2020. The Ukrainian state, also part of the trial as civil responsibility of the attack, was found guilty. cpj.org/data/people/an…
The Italian court held accountable the Ukrainian armed forces guilty of the murder of the journalists, “[T]he convoy of journalists of which Andy was a part was recognized and deliberately attacked with mortar fire by the Ukrainian army.”
In 2022, the Ukrainian commander Mykhailo Zabrodskyi is being accused, via a TV investigation by Rai News 24, of giving the order to shoot and eliminate a group of civilians near the railway in May 2014.
Andrey Stenin is another photojournalist who was killed during the initial stages of the Donbass war in August 2014 just short of being 34. His photos were used by multiple western outlets like Reuters and Associated Press as well as TASS and RIA. 🧵
Stenin photographed conflict zones in Egypt, Syria, Libya, the Gaza Strip, & Donbass. He won the Silver Camera prize twice. Photographing the war in Donbass, he went missing on Aug 5, 2014. Sources said he was detained by the Ukrainian security service. (Photos: Maidan, Donbass).
There was an int'l campaign to find Stenin. IFJ, EFJ, HRW et al expressed concern. On Sept 3, 2014, the world learned that Andrey was killed in early Aug 2014. The car he was in w/ other civilians was shelled & burned outside Donetsk. He had to be identified through DNA testing.
UNESCO issued the following statement on the death of Andrey Stenin and other journalists.
Regarding Erdogan, and the "Putin betrayal" (sic) with his Azovite release:
Erdogan has been sitting on the fence since the Ukraine war escalation in 2022. So exploiting the situation in ways that he perceives to benefit Turkey is nothing new. 🧵
First, from the geopolitical/geostrategic standpoint, Turkey and its predecessor states in the region are located in an extremely auspicious position between different regions and cultures with premiere access to the Black Sea--between the proverbial East and West and beyond.
Thus, Erdogan often seems to act in the way that he wants surpassing the 'acceptable' NATO state behavior.
What we’re seeing with the Prigozhin-led mutiny in Russia is the tip of the iceberg, and much of it makes no logical sense. So it’s unsurprising that there are so many conspiracy theories floating around. Let’s break it down. 🧵
1. It makes no sense to use 25K (even 30-50K) Wagnerites for a full-fledged coup in a large country like Russia especially when its ammo and supplies come from the state itself. Thus, there must be someone big backing Prigozhin.
But so far we’ve only seen public support from 1990s convicted criminals like Khodorkovsky and a lot of oinking and barking from abroad.
Today, Putin revealed two key conceptual documents in the framework of Xi Jinping’s Moscow visit: 1) a joint statement about deepening Russia-China relations 2) a joint statement about developing key trajectories in the Russian-Chinese economic cooperation until 2030.
Putin: Russia and China to work on developing the Northern Sea Route.
Putin:
“We support using the Chinese yuan in transactions between Russia and the countries of Asia, Africa, and Latin America. I am sure that these forms of transactions in yuan will be developed between the Russian partners and their counterparts in other countries.”
What never ceases to amaze me is muppets like this one yapping about freedumbocracy from the European “garden,” half of which was under authoritarian pandemic lockdowns and most of which banned RT. And that’s besides the history of European colonialism.
Conclusion? @cgmk is still butthurt about losing the Great Northern War to us, Russkies, 300 years ago! 🙃
Lavrov is more of a skilled diplomat than any of the grey, interchangeable EU vassal-bureaucrats. This is why he’s always popular at the G20 as is well documented. But you know this already which is why you’re stalking my tweets @cgmk.
Russia has written off debts to African countries in the amount exceeding $20 billion.
Russia and China write off debt and help with economic development, while certain Western countries simply like to lecture Africa and give ultimatums.
Meanwhile, Africa only received 3% of grain from the grain deal.
🗣️”If we decide not to renew this deal after 60 days, then we are ready to deliver all the volume that was sent in the previous period to countries in Africa […] free of charge,” Putin stated.
Other areas of Russian-African cooperation include energy:
🗣️”We will continue to help African countries in the production of electrical energy. At this point, the continent only meets a quarter of its needs in this regard,” Putin suggested.
After visiting Crimea, Vladimir Putin stopped by Mariupol to inspect the city's reconstruction as well as the construction of new neighborhoods, according to the Kremlin's press service.
RIA shared a video of Putin visiting a command point in Rostov-on-Don and meeting with the Chief of Staff Gerasimov and General Surovikin. These visits could be timed with Xi Jinping’s upcoming Moscow trip or simply be the result of geographic proximity to Crimea.
Putin driving himself in Mariupol. This is his first visit to Donbass.
