Russian invasion is not only unethical but insidious. Tons of disinformation, fake videos, and photos are shared to justify this bloody and unjust war. Here is why lies that seem obviously propagandistic for the whole world work in Russia and on the occupied territories: ⬇️
🔷 Kremlin propagandists started priming the information environment for this invasion since Ukraine got its independence and have recently just reinforced this rhetoric which makes disinformation more powerful than it seems.
🔶 The Kremlin has been making surveys in the Eastern territories of Ukraine to understand what polarises people and how to best exploit their divisions to ‘divide and rule’.
🔷 Throughout many years, the Kremlin has been using the rhetoric of the ‘evil West seeking to divide the former Soviet bloc’ to argue that all Slavs must unite to oppose it.
🔶 Crimea and Ukraine are seen as being under threat from the imperialistic West and should thus be brought back to Russia for their own well-being.
🔷 Propagandists use repetitive narratives that have become "common sense" in Russia. Trust levels in Western media are extremely low, making it difficult to try to change their mind regarding the issue.
🔶 The Kremlin and its Ukrainian collaborators have long painted Ukrainians as fascists, pointing to World War II and modern far-right groups as evidence.
