"After re-educating myself and abiding by the terms of my pre-trial and advice of my attorney, I have learned so much and have grown to regret my actions that day even more so.”
“I really just wanted to be there to witness history,” Howell said. “I never imagined what would have happened that day.”
It wasn’t until the Jan. 6 committee hearings that she realized the full impact.
Howell says she’s “not the same person” as she was last year.
“I feel betrayed by the former president,” Howell said.
Says she agreed with seditious conspiracy charges against other defendants.
Calls Jan. 6 one of the saddest days in history.
Howell has stopped watching Newsmax, OANN, and Fox News. She changed her voter registration status to independent from Republican.
Howell says she fears for what will happen after the 2024 election.
Judge Thomas F. Hogan says he’s concerned what happens to Howell’s child if he sentences her to a long period of incarceration.
Judge Hogan said people are “trying to mislead” people about the Capitol attack.
“Jan. 6 was an insurrection that was probably the worst thing that’s happened to our democratic way of life in our history except for the War of 1812,” Hogan says.
Judge Hogan said it was difficult to find a historic comparison to what happened on Jan. 6.
He’s going to try to sentence Annie Howell to 36 months probation, but with 60 days of intermittent confinement at her local jail, to be served in 10 day segments.
More from Hogan today:
“There’s no question in my mind that you joined a group that attempted to overthrow the government."
Jurors are now hearing additional testimony from Inspector Monique Moore, who was in charge of the U.S. Capitol Police command center on Jan. 6.
Government shows footage of members of the mob rushing past the magnetometer.
“Was it being used properly this day?”
“No,” Moore says.
Moore described how U.S. Capitol Police used code words to assure staffers about their identity when they were extracting staffers who were in hiding during the attack.
