A is now scared to try to leave Kyiv out of fear of facing the same fate as her friend. She’s 18, in her first year of university, and previously dreamt of working in the field of biochemistry.

I keep thinking about how when victory is ours, our immediate crisis will be not the destroyed roads and buildings, but a traumatised population with a whole generation of children unable to unsee and unhear the things they’ve experienced.
