The Akan are the largest ethnic group in both Ghana and
the Ivory Coast.
With over 20 million members the Akans
are one of the biggest Ethnic groups in West Africa today.
The Akan speak Kwa languages which are part of the larger Niger-Congo family.

The amhara tribe has about 20 million people.
They are mostly concentrated in Ethiopia where they make up about 20% of the total population.

The tribe has a total population of about 23 million people.
Somali, people of Africa occupying all of Somalia, a strip of Djibouti, the southern Ethiopian region of Ogaden, and part of northwestern Kenya.
7. The hutu tribe.
This tribe has about 20 - 25 million people setup primarily in two countries.
Hutu, also called Bahutu or Wahutu, Bantu-speaking people of Rwanda and Burundi.
6. The fulani tribe.
35 million people.
The Fulani people are one of the largest ethnic groups that can be found widely dispersed across the Sahel and West Africa.
Known by different names across the globe, they are called the
Fula people in Manding languages and can sometimes be spelled as 'Fulah' or 'Fullah'.
5. Amazigh (berber)
About 37 million people.
The Amazigh people inhabits a territory spanning most of North Africa, from the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts up to the Sahel.
Since the 20th century, it also has had a substancial presence in Europe through the Amazigh diaspora

The Oromo people are the native inhabitants of Eastern Africa. Their population s estimated to be 55 million, which makes it the largest ethnic group in Eastern Africa.
There are thousands of Oromo people living in diaspora, largely residing in are United States of America, Australia, Canada, Norway, England and Sweden
3. Igbo tribe.
About 40 million people.
The Igbo people are one of the largest ethnic groups in Africa.
It is believed that the Igbo originated in an area about 100 miles north of their current location at the confluence of the Niger and Benue Rivers.
2. Yoruba tribe.
This tribe has about 54 million people.
The history of the Yoruba people begins in Ile-Ife.
This kingdom was founded by the deity Oduduwa, who is believed to have created the world.
The people who lived in Yorubaland, at least by the seventh century BC,
were not initially known as the Yoruba, although they shared a common ethnicity and language group.

The Hausa are the largest ethnic group in West and Central Africa, who speak the Hausa language, the second most spoken language after Arabic in the Afro-Asiatic language family.
