ok, nah, i’m gonna expand on this: one of my lecturers today got quite emotional about the contradiction of their commitment to striking and their commitment to providing a good learning experience for students.
because they care about working conditions AND they care about students and delivering their modules well, in the way they envisioned delivering their modules. it feels irresolvable for them i think.
and i can imagine this is a deeply felt struggle for many lecturers. it made me emotional lol, to see how much it tore them apart to have to continue disrupting our experience and ripping their module in half.
because yeah, strikes are hella disruptive, that’s what they’re there for. and it sucks. but it’s okay.
they seemed to want to communicate how much they cared about our experience and how much they didn’t want to be doing this - so believe me, we know, most of us. we know you care. and we know you’re trying your best.
as a student whose entire uni experience has been affected by strikes (and particularly as a nerdy student who really REALLY likes to go to lectures lol), i understand. i want to communicate that i understand and i’m grateful for your fight.
because it matters for our future too, as students under a marketised education and as future academics. and even if it didn’t, your working conditions matter and i support your struggle.
and basically everyone i’ve spoken to understands too. there’s less bad blood than you may feel there is, less vitriol than management attempts to create. students do support the strike :) solidarity out there comrades 🔥 #uonucu#OneOfUsAllOfUs
