Our March Short-Term Energy Outlook analyzes current market conditions and forecasts energy supply, consumption, prices, and other trends over the short-term. go.usa.gov/xzK2P
Energy sector forecasting has been more uncertain than normal recently, as a result of the pandemic.
The uncertainty has grown even more following Russia's further invasion of Ukraine.
We believe it is more important to understand all the factors generating the uncertainty around our March STEO forecasts than it is to understand the forecasts themselves.
Oil markets are notable.
Crude oil inventories were already low. Recent events in the oil market have amplified oil price volatility and contributed to higher oil prices.
Some things we're watching:
- Additional nations could choose to ban imports of Russian energy
- More sanctions could be announced
- Oil producers outside Russia could respond to higher prices by increasing production
We will continue to monitor market dynamics in the energy sector and publish updated information.
