Today's @thecassreview Interim Report for gender identity services for child & young people sets out:
👉 Lack of robust evidence base
👉 Need for more specialist services
👉 More comprehensive care, including psychological & social support cass.independent-review.uk/publications/i… #CassReview
1.16. Another significant issue raised with us is one of diagnostic overshadowing – many of the children & young people presenting have complex needs, but once they are identified as having gender-related distress, other important healthcare issues.. can sometimes be overlooked.
Service standards for consideration: "From point of entry to GIDS there appears to be predominantly an affirmative, non-exploratory approach, often driven by child and parent expectations and extent of social transition that has developed due to the delay in service provision."
For consideration: "There is limited evidence of mental health or neurodevelopmental assessments being routinely documented, or of a discipline of formal diagnostic or psychological formulation."
Safeguarding review: "[In] a number of cases there were specific safeguarding concerns. There do not appear to be consistent processes in place to work with other agencies to identify children & young people & families who may be vulnerable, at risk & require safeguarding."
Actual Review finding: 1.25. There has not been routine and consistent data collection within GIDS, which means it is not possible to accurately track the outcomes and pathways that children and young people take through the service.
1.27. There has been research on the short-term mental health outcomes and physical side effects of puberty blockers for this cohort, but very limited research on the sexual, cognitive or broader developmental outcomes.
Interim advice: Each [proposed] regional centre will need to work collaboratively with range of local services to ensure that appropriate clinical, psychological and social support is made available to children & young people in early stages of experiencing gender distress.
Any child or young person being considered for hormone treatment should have a formal diagnosis and formulation, which addresses the full range of factors affecting their physical, mental, developmental and psychosocial wellbeing.
Sex ratio in children and adolescents referred to GIDS in the UK (2009-16)
3.30. In the short-term, puberty blockers may have a range of side effects such as headaches, hot flushes, weight gain, tiredness, low mood and anxiety, all of which may make day-to-day functioning more difficult for a child or young person who is already experiencing distress.
3.32. A closely linked concern is the unknown impacts on development, maturation and cognition if a child or young person is not exposed to the physical, psychological, physiological, neurochemical and sexual changes that accompany adolescent hormone surges.
A sound interim report, well worth closer read, setting out options for its subsequent work.
Validates & reinforces number of concerns any reasonable observer could have about service standards in this area & well-being & future best interest of child or young person.

♀️ BREAKING NEWS! ⚖️ GROUNDHOG DAY: Former Deputy Leader Instructs Lawyers to take GPEW to Court Second Time.
🧵 “In politics as in court, Green Party plays nothing if not dirty. We, however, play clean – Truth, as with justice, will continue to prevail.” crowdjustice.com/case/groundhog…
Unlawful Discrimination since Winning Landmark GC discrimination case in politics
In February 2024, Ali won his claim for unlawful discrimination against the Green Party after they removed him, two years earlier, as a front bench Justice Spokesperson. It had already been established by @MForstater at the Employment Appeal Tribunal, in 2021, that belief in sex realism was Worthy of Respect in a Democratic Society. In Ali’s case, the courts also ruled that, despite the necessarily higher thresholds for lawful freedom of expression in political associations, politicians were still protected from gender critical belief discrimination under the Equality Act 2010. @TheGreenParty had breached that threshold. (Shahrar Ali wins 'gender critical' court battle against Green Party - BBC News bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politi…)
In August 2024, the Green Party subjected Ali to two sets of complaints, concurrently – each based on his sex realist statements on social media. They subsequently notified him of two types of sanction, purporting to both suspend and exclude him, simultaneously, which had the effect of removing the rights associated with his membership in a targeted act of overkill.
Dr Shahrar Ali said, “After 22 years an active member, having just won a two-year court battle against the Party, you can imagine my horror and dismay at being so blatantly discriminated against, again – excluded with breathtaking chutzpa. Despite an encouragement from the judge for rapprochement between the parties, and fat chance of an apology from the Party, I found myself being punished instead. This felt like victimisation on steroids!”
Persecuting Ali for his stance on Puberty Blockers and Age-inappropriate educational materials
In the first set, the Party heard four complaints against Ali, each alleging “transphobia”, suddenly accelerated to a disciplinary hearing after they reversed their decision to undertake a proper investigation first. The allegation central to the complaints was that he had somehow compared gender identity to schizophrenia. He did, however, compare the age-inappropriateness of wanting to teach a two-year old the concept of transgender identity to the inappropriateness of wanting to teach schizophrenia, to illustrate relative complexity of ideas.
Dr Ali says, “I argued, and still maintain, no reasonable person would want to teach either of those things to that age and I criticised Stonewall for pushing their ideological agenda down the throats of unwitting kids.”
Ali was also disciplined for seeking to bring a motion to conference, in 2021, that would have banned GenderGP from dispensing puberty blockers in the UK. Instead of being commended for his foresight in anticipating the risk of harm to children, as subsequently evidenced by the Cass recommendations and the PB moratorium on NHS and private providers, Ali received a two-year exclusion from the Party and five-year ban on standing for all internal and external positions upon readmission. Disciplined for Criticising Imane Khelif in Women's Boxing
In the second set, the Party suspended Ali on an emergency “no-fault basis” following a further complaint from one of the earlier complainants. This one was to do with Ali’s criticism of the spectacle of the International Olympics Committee granting Imane Khelif, whom he described as male and attributed correctly sexed pronouns to match, entry into the women’s boxing competition. He regarded the consequences for fairness and safety of female competitors as grotesque. According to the disciplinary referral group, “There is no justification for presuming that she [sic. Imane Khelif] is male. No evidence.” Anybody who has followed reports into Khelif’s sex eligibility tests, will know this to be a demonstrably unsafe assumption. Ali was suspended for “misgendering” Khelif even though he had correctly sexed him; and Khelif has confirmed that he does not identify as transgender.
♀️ JUDGMENT ⚖️ has landed! WE WON!! Wow! Just Wow! This is HUGE!! Our Gender Critical beliefs Are Worthy of Respect in A Political Party!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! 🙏💚♀️💚♀️💚 #AliVsGPEW Please Tell the World 📣
📣 WE WON!! “I find that by removing him as spokesperson in a procedurally unfair way, GPEx discriminated against Dr Ali because of his [gender critical] protected belief contrary to section 101 of the Equality Act.” (Judge Hellman, 250, p. 56) #AliVsGPEW
⚖️ YES, WE WON!! “Dr Ali’s removal was, in summary, procedurally unfair in that he was dismissed for breaches of the SGCC [Spokespeople Code of Conduct] although GPEx failed to identify, consider, or make findings in relation to any such breaches.” (Judge Hellman, 246, p.56)
Why other journos refusing to cover this? Not newsworthy? No, doesn't fit their spineless Guardian woke narrative. But risks were warned of.

Whistleblowing Allegation: Corruption of Green Party Internal Democracy
I have today called for urgent, independent investigation into facts surrounding subversion of will of conference in taking of controversial motion on #DQSH last weekend #GPC22 👇 electshahrar.co.uk/corruption-of-…
As an ordinary member, I write to blow the whistle on evidence of serious wrongdoing in the Green Party of England and Wales and I believe it to be both in the interest of the Party and the wider public interest to do so.
Late motion "Solidarity with DQSH" taken without due authority of conference. There are multiple grounds to believe that this part of a determined effort by some to pass the motion “at all costs”, the chief obstacle to doing so being to make sure that plenary time made for it.
Remember grotesque contravention of @bindelj basic freedom of speech by @MyNottingham in June?
