Voting will now be based on performance during a season rather than a calendar year.
The 2022 award will be based on the 2021/22 campaign, with the Women's Euros in July 2022 the final matches to be considered.
The 2022 World Cup will contribute to the 2023 award.

The shortlisting process was previously drawn up by journalists working for France Football and L'Équipe.
In the future, Ballon d'Or ambassador Didier Drogba will also help finalise the shortlists alongside the "most insightful voter" from the previous edition.
