This thread expresses why I join a growing number of Americans who feel that Garland must begin the process of prosecuting Trump soon, or resign & allow someone to do the job that an AG, in the aftermath of our nation’s worst insurrection in 160 years, is called by law to do.
Prosecuting Trump will take a long time. #DonTheCon is sure to use every accountability-avoiding appeal that his donor-scammed millions can buy.
Meanwhile, many swing voters will continue believing GOP insurrection was lawful & will vote for 2022/24 candidates who support it!
Accountability is at the heart of our justice system. To treat Trump differently than a less powerful man who did what he did is to model that some people are above the law.
It also signals that Jan 6 attack & death threats to election officials, etc are acceptable actions.
The Jan 6 Committee & good journalists have exposed more than enough evidence to indict Trump for sedition conspiracy, election interference & the obstruction charges that Mueller begged the next AG to bring.
Shamefully, NONE of the evidence has come from Garland’s timid DOJ.
Garland’s supporters argue that he is “building a case from the ground up” & making it bulletproof.
Informed legal pundits & practitioners will tell you that no case is 100% guaranteed to result in conviction.
There will ALWAYS be the possibility of a stealth MAGA juror.
Some Dems say Biden, not Garland, has made the political choice to not prosecute Trump because doing so would add fuel to the insurrection fire.
Either this or appointing Garland is the worst action of Biden's career. To protect democracy, Biden must make a different choice NOW!
