Here, @KHayhoe illustrates a human phenomenon with data.
"We humans, are regrettably, very good at #PsychologicalDistance. If there's a problem we're confronting but we don't know what to do about it, we just push it off. On climate change, we do it in every single way we can."
"How do we address solutions? People are willing to change if they think that what they do will make a difference. And the social science word for this is #Efficacy."
"How do we tackle psychological distance and build efficacy?"
"How do we tackle psychological distance and build efficacy?
#Talk about how climate change is affecting us, and talk about what we can do to fix it. Because what builds efficacy is understanding that solutions are underway."
I can certainly attest solutions are underway. Increasingly, federal, provincial, & municipal jurisdictions are engaging mitigation & adaptation initiatives. I’m seeing requests for proposals on a regular basis.
Tonnes of work ahead, and we’re building momentum with solutions.
