Malicious political propaganda is being spread that exodus of Kashmiri Hindus started when "BJP man" Jagmohan was governor and BJP was in power at Center.

Let's set the record straight.

KP exodus started in 1989 itself, when Rajiv was PM. Farooq Abdullah was CM.

VP Singh, Minister in Rajiv's cabinet became PM on 02 December 1989, when Rajiv lost the election due to Bofors scandal. BJP supported him from outside, but did not join govt. In less than two months, on 18 Jan 1990, Abdullah quit as CM. As if on cue, the very next day, posters

appeared all over the Valley asking Hindus to leave. Calls were simultaneously made from mosques asking them to 'Convert, leave or die'. The killings began and they fleeing became a flood.

Jagmohan was nowhere in picture then. He was re-appointed appointed Governor on 20 Jan.

Reached valley on 22 Jan. He tried to bring the situation under control, but by then it was too late. The brutal killings and treachery of neighbours had forced Hindus to flee with nothing more than the clothes they were wearing. 5 lakh fled.

Jagmohan was not a BJP man, then.

In fact he was first appointed Governor by Indira Gandhi in 1984. He resigned in July 1989, and was asked by Rajiv to contest elections on Cong ticket, which he declined. Before resigning, he had warned Rajiv about the dark Islamist clouds that were threatening the Valley.

After being made governor again, when Farooq quit as CM, Jagmohan wrote an open letter to Rajiv Gandhi, warning him of dire consequences if nothing was done to check the Islamic fundamentalism and terrorism that had taken over the Valley.
