We built a simple comments system for podcasts on the Lightning Network that works across apps.
This is why we launched Lightning Comments and how they work 👇
If you listen to podcasts on an app that supports Value for Value you can already send a message via Lightning but they are not displayed on the app - nor can you respond.
We believe that making these messages public by default creates added value for listeners and podcasters.
Why?
Lightning Podcasts that read out messages from supporters generate higher engagement and earnings.
It makes listeners feel part of a community and creates dialogue between them and the podcaster. This encourages participation - and more generous contributions!
How Lightning Comments work:
All boosts sent on Fountain will display a comment - unless the user has turned on private boosts.
For Lightning Podcasts ⚡️
Pay as much as you want to comment and the money goes to the podcaster. Send more sats and your comment appears higher.
For Fiat Podcasts 💰
Pay 1 sat to comment. The money gets paid back to new Fountain users to help them get started with Value for Value.
Make sure your notifications are turned on. You will be notified when someone replies to your comment and when someone you follow sends a comment.
Building on Lightning means that a comment sent from a listener on another Podcasting 2.0 app could show on Fountain and you could respond to them.
Because each comment is tied to a Lightning payment, if Fountain is listed as a split for your podcast we can display boosts sent from other apps as a comments.
How to activate cross-app comments:
If you have a Podcaster Wallet, you're already set up. We have added Fountain as a split so that boosts from every app show as comments on Fountain.
All boosts sent on Fountain now display as comments that you can reply to. This simple comments system is built on Lightning so that it can work seamlessly across other Podcasting 2.0 apps.
We've added bigger images, new buttons and more user-friendly navigation controls to the player. We think this is a big improvement for the listener experience - we hope our listeners agree! We have also updated the design of the show and episode pages.
