#Ungrateful: a thread. Because apparently some people need to know this stuff.
- Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe isn't a journalist
- The £400 million paid was a debt, not a ransom
- The debt is from 1979
- An international court ordered the UK to pay it in 2009
1.
- Iran has been asking for payment in exchange for Nazanin's freedom since 2016
- FIVE foreign secretaries have failed to pay that debt: To put this into perspective, Tory MPs have spent the last 2 yrs funneling £10 BILLION towards their pub landlords, for PPE that's unusable.
2.
- One foreign secretary even made it worse by failing to understand who she was and what she was doing there, because he literally won't read. This idiot is now our prime minister.
3.
For the love of any brain cell still rattling around inside your head, please do not be up in my feed posting your half-baked assumptions about this woman's LIFE unless you know something the rest of us don't (Guess what? You don't)
4.
She has been in a cell seperated from her child for YEARS and if you come for her I WILL DESTROY YOU.
That is all.
Edit: Ofc Iran is the worst for taking hostages to get money. But explain why Iran sent diplomats to the UK to negotiate repayment of a 'ransom' in 2013, before Nazanin even left? The UK gvt detained the diplomats, and obviously Iran tied the same tactics in reverse: It's Iran...
If our gvt didn't pre-empt this; if half a dozen foreign secretaries failed to understand how Iran works, then they are either criminally incompetent or stupid or both.
I, like many, am disgusted, hence the anger. She's been caught between two very badly-run regimes.
END.
