A dark future for the Pasig River lies ahead as San Miguel’s Pasig River Expressway is nearing approval.

Since SMC has not released close-up renders of PAREX’s visual impact on our heritage landmarks, different artists and groups have visualized Manila after PAREX. #NoToPAREX Image
Almost 83% of the whole river length from Tondo, Manila to Taytay, Rizal will be covered by the wide span of PAREX, affecting not only the ecosystem of the river but also disrupting the communities and heritage sites alongside the famous river.

The first phase of the project from Intramuros to Pandacan will affect at least 288 cultural properties within 1 kilometers of the project.

It's first kilometer will be built directly behind the Fort Santiago in Intramuros, the center of tourism and history of the Philippines. Image
It will also pass through the section between the Malacañan Place and Malacanang Park, which is known for strict rules when boarding the Pasig River ferry.

The project will only avoid the Pandacan Oil Depot eyed by SMC to be developed as one of their major projects. #NoToPAREX Image
Even the newly-renovated Jones Bridge and the historic Manila Central Post Office will be desecrated by this huge photobomber.

To avoid the height of Jones Bridge and new Binondo-Intramuros Bridge, it has to be built high enough that it can be seen from far distances. ImageImage
The river view of famous Soledad Promenade will now also be overshadowed by the Pasig River Expressway.

The earlier but smaller Binondo-Intramuros bridge already drew flak for its impact on Intramuros and the San Agustin Church which is listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site. Image
