Today I want to talk about good and bad title card design #UXaccessibility. Titles need to be readable for people with low vision or color blindness. Let’s look at a few good and bad examples on #DisneyPlus
So let’s start looking at some good examples… why these work large text size, good color contrast, bold simple readable fonts, and no text layered over a busy image.
However these practices are not applied the same to all title cards. 1. Just beyond has a white glow that makes it hard to make out the BE. 2. Red Green colorblindness may make the Spider-Man card difficult 3. The subtitles on Summer of Soul are too small
Yesterday Disney added Parallels which I think may be the worst one yet as it breaks several rules… 1. Tiny & thin font is difficult to read 2. Light blue on blue is poor contrast 3. Layering text over a busy image 4. Using the light slash to replace letter, reads like para els
I think the first thing to fix this issue I would suggest graying out the card when you hover over it and display a clear title or adding a little expanded title card underneath. I compared this with Netflix and HBOmax… and they are not great at making accessible cards either.

Great question. Just listened @disneyplusnews podcast. As usual, I enjoy their perspectives! As discussed, there have been some major shifts in the streaming industry lately. I think Disney is currently deciding how to react. Bundling? Merging? Relaunch? Something else?
I’ve said this before but I’m not anticipating a big announcement until D23 expo this year with a roll out likely on Disney+ Day as part of the 100 year anniversary of the company.
Which also mostly aligns the timing of the Dancing with the Stars live streaming and ad tier launches later this year.
A few thoughts on today being the first Friday (I think ever?) that Disney+ hasn’t added any content… 🧵
It was only less than a year ago that Disney started the Wed/Fri release schedule and we did get content on Wednesday this week. So it wasn’t an empty week.
I would assume it being Good Friday doesn’t have anything to do with this. Disney has never observed any religious holidays like this in the past. Also it would be a great weekend to add content because it’s Spring Break for a lot of kids, and they’ll be at home watching Disney+
