For my birthday my kids are taking me on a movie-based pub crawl! First stop; the Globe Tavern in Borough Market which was Bridget’s flat in Bridget Jones Diary. This street is where Mark & Daniel have their fight.
Bridget weighs herself and is horrified after seeing she’s 9 stone (lol) - Renee had to put on 25 pounds to play the role, so a nutritionist put her on a strict diet of “3 meals a day AND snacks” (which is just what eating food is).
Next pub is the Old Thameside Inn. The alley in Clink Street was the location for the police chase in An American Werewolf in London.
The executives asked John Landis to tone down the gore, so he waited a bit, and then showed them exactly the same cut and they said “That’s much better, thank you very much”
Next stop on the movie pub crawl - the BFI Riverside bar. Just outside here, in Four Weddings and a Funeral, Hugh Grant tells Andie McDowell that ‘in the words of David Cassidy, I think I love you’.
Fun fact - a young Amber Rudd helped out on that film, recruiting posh people to be extras.
Final stop (and dinner) The Kings Arms in Roupell St, nr Waterloo. Features in a long list of films, but perhaps most notably No Time To Die. (I’m having my pint shaken not stirred.)
