We don't have any proper infrastructure for people outside the car. 1/
We build our vehicles so big we can't see people outside the car. 2/
We advertise and market our vehicles for speed and recklessness. 3/
Our culture celebrates the fastest and most powerful vehicles and ridicules everything else. 4/
We politicize any type of movement outside of the car, and then package up any voices that want safer streets as some radical anti-car position. 5/
Our authorities produce ridiculous, embarrassing and backwards "safety" campaigns that do nothing other than check the wrong boxes 4 times a year and blame the vulnerable 6/
We do everything backwards. All the fatalities, injuries and stolen moments and independence is not surprising at all. We've done this, we f'ed it all up. We've created the perfect conditions to destroy on a mass scale. Congratulations everyone. 10/
And of course can fix all of this but we just continually choose not to.
Choices.
This thread was written thinking about the child who was hit by a driver last week walking home from school here in #HamOnt and then shortly after posted, a person was killed by a driver a couple blocks from our house in a hit and run. It’s never ending.
