This morning, doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers blocked HM Treasury, to call on the government to stop financing fossil fuels in the name of public health. #ActNow#ForHealthsSake#WorldHealthDay#PaidToPollute (1/6) ⬇️
Our leading medical institutions have also called for the government to "End subsidies for oil and gas extraction and redirect funds to green industry" @RCP @BMA @RCPsych@RCPCH and @RCOG

It is vital for human health that we get off fossil fuels as soon as possible in a just & fair transition for everyone. Failure to reach 1.5C would mean a 'catastrophic harm to health that will be impossible to reverse' -so said the @NEJM@BMJ@Lancet
(3/6) ⬇️
The UK is giving millions of pounds of public money to Oil majors like Shell and BP through tax incentives. This means the UK takes barely $2/barrel in tax compared to Norway which takes over $20/barrel.(4/6) ⬇️
Taking that money back, from Oil and Gas companies record profits, we could power up our clean energy supply, fund an insulation drive, and support the poorest people through the energy crisis. (5/6) ⬇️
“Climate activists are sometimes depicted as dangerous radicals, but the truly dangerous radicals are countries increasing the production of fossil fuels. Investing in new fossil fuel infrastructure is moral & economic madness”- @antonioguterres@UN@UNFCCC@IPCC_CH (6/6)

January 28th 2023 marks the launch of the dirty water campaign!
Join us as we support various campaigns taking place across the country!
See below for the finalised locations and times.
Our waterways are the veins of our country, home to an incredible number of species and habitats.
But our clean water and biodiversity are being sacrificed by politicians and water companies who see our rivers and seas as nothing more than a commodity to be exploited.
On Saturday, as part of the dirty water campaign, plaques will be unveiled next to waterways and beaches around the U.K. to highlight the appalling state of our waterways, rivers, and seas due to government regulatory failure and profit-grabbing industries.
With the UK’s first ever level 4 national emergency heat red alert declared for this week, this morning, healthcare workers carefully cracked the windows at financial services giant and investment bank JP Morgan’s offices in Canary Wharf.
Here’s why:
GP Dr David McKelvey says:
“Today we do not lightly engage in breaking a pane of glass in the mighty @JPmorgan glass tower; it is done thoughtfully and carefully. Nothing else seems to have let the light in – hopefully this crack will, for the sake of all our health.”
Maggie Fay, Dementia Specialist Nurse says:
“I am here today because people living with dementia will die as a consequence of this lethal heatwave. I must ‘Act without delay if [I] believe that there is a risk to patient safety.’ That danger is here and it is now.”
As Dr. @HelenaMckeown, fmr chair of @TheBMA made clear: "The climate emergency is a health emergency - forging a path to net-zero has never been more important". 3/12 bma.org.uk/bma-media-cent…
UPDATE BREAKING NEWS: staff at JPMorgan corporate run wrangle banner from Doctors for XR activists.
🌿The banner may have been taken but the message remains @jpmorgan are charity-washing🌿

JPM are net-terrible for the children of this world despite donating to @NSPCC because they're the world’s leading financier of fossil fuel expansion. Giving away a tiny % of immorally earnt money does not make you a good corporate citizen. #JPMCC 2/4
Would you attend a Corporate run hosted by Exxon Mobil or Gazprom? Many wouldn’t because they know how harmful these companies are. But JP Morgan are arguably just as bad. Their money funds companies expanding the pipelines and planning to drill in the arctic. #JPMCC
