On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week I attended the @SustainableSWS conference and had the pleasure of bumping into this guy. JoeBen took part in a fantastic panel discussion and passionately spoke about the need to make hydrogen aviation a reality.
The conference was amazing but you could see two camps. Sustainable Aviation Fuels and Hydrogen in all its form and hopefully the right colour (apparently 7!). It was agreed that we need both but there was debate on the application of H2 for what use case based around range.
We discussed the importance of design for both ground and air infrastructure but also the digital thread that can weave it all together with good policy.
I then had a chance to present some findings on work I am doing in the #AAM space with this slide depicting some opportunities in Northern Ireland. There was a slide outlining sweet spots for AAM but it was heavily redacted but if you are interested drop me a line.
The last panel session was titled "Financing the Path to Net Zero - who pays for aviation decarbonisation?
How do we secure the finance to deliver net zero innovations?" This was a tough one.
Alastair Blanchard @ICF gave us a great summary followed by Jordan Shorto of @UKEF discussing assistance from the UK Gov, Steve Uhrmarcher of i6 group discussed how their fuel supply chain services can help free up money for investment then Neville Hargreaves of @VelocysPLC
discussed their unique #SAFs production capability but also discussed how the use of CfDs can help provide price security to help attract investment. A special thanks to Nikhil Sachdeva of @RolandBerger who lent a hand and talked about the H2 equation.
