I’m begging people to watch and share this exchange between two of the finest Public Servants serving the American people in the United States Congress. This is the choice. It is as simple as @RepRaskin and @RepLizCheney have laid out.
2/ @RepRaskin is a progressive Democrat. @RepLizCheney is a conservative Republican. @RepLizCheney is more conservative than me and @RepRaskin is more liberal. I admire them both at a level beyond an ability to express. Neither has worn the Uniform of the US Military
3/ but they are living embodiments of the highest concept of patriotism that undergirds the ethics and training of the Officer and NCO’s corps of the Armed Forces. Duty. Honor. Country. They are both heroes who have stood tall and fought the good fight. It is easy to look at MTG
4/ McCarthy, Lee, Graham, Cotton, Hawley and Cruz and feel overwhelmed by cynicism. @RepLizCheney and @RepRaskin are idealists and optimists. They are believers. That is what unites them. Disagreement and different ways of seeing the world are part of life as an adult. This is
5/ true in marriage, friendship, business associations and the list goes on. We live in a sprawling and fractious Republic of 330 million souls. We are a people made up of all of the peoples of the world. We live in a land where every language of the Earth is spoken every day.
6/ Upon this Continent, in a land of breathtaking beauty an American civilization has risen. It is not rooted in race, creed, religion or blood claims to soil. It is an idea and a promise. It is a hope. Our nation is made up of all the peoples of the world. We are a government of
7/ the people, by the people, for the people. We are a nation filled with humanities greatest virtues and all the genius of mankind. Similarly we are filled with all of humanities vices and all of its evil. They coexist but they do not stand equally in America. In this country,
8/ it is the evil that has yielded to the righteous time and time again. Together this nation has fed more people, clothed more people, cured more people, and liberated more people from the yokes of tyranny and slavery than all of the other countries of the world put together
8/ since the beginning of time. That is why we are an exceptional nation. @RepLizCheney and @RepRaskin are exceptional leaders and it is OK to admire someone without agreeing with them on tax policy. These jobs require serious people of good faith and good will who have
9/ wisdom, judiciousness, intellect and the humility to listen to people that they disagree with. Maybe one of the things a lot of people should ponder is this. It’s a lot easier to jeer the certifiable than it is to support the believers. The former is a much easier lift.
The latter requires commitment and conviction. If anyone is interested in knowing what that looks like all they have to do is watch this video of two great Americans. @RepLizCheney and @RepRaskin

I’d like to add one to the list. “Benjamin O Davis, American”There were plenty of racist’s at West Point where Davis was silenced for four years. There were plenty of racist bomber pilots who decided their hate was less valuable to them than their lives when they begged for the
2/ Red Tailed P51’s to be assigned escort duty. It was the heroism of black soldiers and the Double V campaign that powered the beginning of the Civil Rights movement. The Military and baseball desegregated in 1947. A US Army Sgt and WW2 veteran named George Wallace fought it
3/ every step of the way. When the Nazis met at Wannsee they had to settle on who counted as a Jew so they could know who to gas. Of course, their model for measuring racial purity was a less restrictive version of US Southern Miscegenation laws that measured how much “black

The ability to communicate in modern politics is the essential skill. @mehdirhasan is an excellent communicator who combines articulateness with conviction. There lies, most likely, the great frustration so many people feel about the profound communications failures of the
2/current Democratic Party. Chuck Schumer is an archetypal character in this. I’m a life long NY Jets fan. Always will be. Schumer is like a Jets quarterback. It’s a constant that will never change except Schumer plays in a two team league and a Super Bowl loss here means a bad
3/ season for democracy. @ProjectLincoln’s work in the 2020 Presidential election is a good case study on this point. Project Lincoln did not “test” a single ad it ran. The ads were expressions of conviction and they achieved a level of cultural relevance, impact and value that

Ok: so this is where COVID and masks and all that come into play. The bad faith is epic and luminescent. Yet, somehow winning. There are many ways to interpret this. I’m going to lay out two of them. There has been no single issue since Prohibition that has so thoroughly revealed
2/the hypocrisy and aloofness of the American elite from American life than Covid. Historians and elites tend to remember FDR through a prism of his expanding the size and reach of government. The Ironworker in Pittsburgh viewed him as the guy who got government off his back and
3/and put a beer in his hand. Where should we look to find the fault lines in American life? What is determining and driving our politics? Is it ideological? Is the easiest way to understand it through an evaluation of a Meridian that divides right and left? GOP from Democrat?

CHEAT SHEET:

The United States of America is the OLDEST CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC IN THE WORLD. The AMERICAN PEOPLE are SOVEREIGN. This means they are in CONTROL. The AMERICAN People~NOT the people they elect are in CONTROL. ELECTED OFFICIALS are granted TEMPORARY LAWFUL
2/ AUTHORITY to Write, Execute and Interpret the law within a system of Government that is Co-equal, Federal and based on the following principles. 1. The Powers of Government are proscribed. 2. The powers of Government are limited. 3. The Rights of the Individual exist beyond
3/the power of Government to interfere with. Today, we recognize ALL MEN are CREATED EQUAL as ALL PEOPLE are CREATED EQUAL. A Presidents SON has no standing in this land. He hold no TITLE and no HONORS . He is simply a citizen. NO MORE and NO LESS than any other CITIZEN. He has

What do you think @MehdiHasan Accelerate the cycle of revenge and institutional vandalism? In other words, the wise thing to do is for the thoughtful @ChrisCoons, the type of Senator we need more of, to become more like @LindseyGraham, the prototype we need less of, in order to
2/move through this terrible era of disunion. There is a time for fighting and there is a time for listening. They are not exclusive of each other. Yes, it is true Democrats are losing a culture war argument against a loathsome cabal of extremists, fascists and conspiracy nuts.
3/ Ineptitude in the fight for liberty and freedom aren’t particularly virtuous in my eyes, but it has nothing to do with having reality based conversations about broken processes, institutions and norms that must be renewed, reformed and strengthened.

That’s right Mike Gibbons! The American working class is free loading and underperforming. Cops, soldiers, nurses, teachers, welders, masons, plumbers, commercial divers, farmers, mechanics, bus drivers, truck drivers—all of them are riding in the wagon being pulled by hedge fund
2/ Heroes and Peter Thiel. These lazy bastards are a burden to the country which would be better off if they could just go somewhere else, so all of the really wealthy in America wouldn’t have to see these loathsome scroungers taking crumbs that don’t belong to them.
3/ @TimRyan can win the Ohio Senate seat. Gibbons is tied for first with Mandel, fresh off his graduate work on photoshopping. 40 percent of America doesn’t have $400 cash on hand while gasoline is 5.00 plus and even higher out west. Hundreds of thousands of working class people
