The most powerful feature that Twitter has:

Advanced search

Until recently I hadn't even heard of it, but now I use it all the time.

Here are 6 twitter advanced search features that will revolutionise the way you search for what to read: 🧵👇
Before we get started, you might be wondering why you need advanced search?

Your main feed just shows what's being posted NOW.

But there's absolute gold in the old tweets from experts you love + big accounts you follow.

Lots of learning just waiting there for us.

Here's how:
1. Find tweets from a particular person.

Want to see what @Liz_ORiordan's been tweeting about?

Just type in the search bar:

from:Liz_ORiordan

Want to see tweets to @LondonAllergy?

to:londonallergy

Combine these to see their interactions:

from:Liz_ORiordan to:londonallergy Image
2. Find tweets on a specific topic.

Keywords will keep your search results on topic.

Want to find what @KathEvans2 has been saying about vaccinations?

from:kathevans2 vaccinations

But what if you want to exclude tweets about measles?

Just add - to the search term:

-measles Image
3. Find tweets that are popular.

You can set a minimum number of retweets, faves, or replies:

min_retweets: x
min_faves: x
min_replies: x

@OrthopodReg has been paving the way for culture change, but what if we want his most popular tweets?

from:orthopodreg min_faves:1000 Image
4. Filter by a specific type of tweet

Sometimes you might want only tweets with images or links in them:

filter:links
filter: images
filter:media

Want to find that graphic by @DrLindaDykes on DNACPR?

from:drlindadykes dnacpr filter:images Image
5. Find tweets from a particular time period.

Add a date filter:

since:
until:

Do you remember @doc_bipolar sharing about her new blog but can't find the link?

from:doc_biopolar since:2022-03-01 until:2022-04-08 filter:links

Remember to use the format YYYY-MM-DD Image
6. Find tweets by location.

Add a city and a distance if you want local info.

near:X within:10mi

If you want to hear more from Glaswegians then you just add the location tag into the search.

near:Glasgow wellington Image
The TL;DR of how you can search:

• from:twittername
• keyword1 OR keyword2
• min_faves:2000
• min_retweets:2000
• filter:links
• filter:images
• until:YYYY-MM-DD
• since:YYYY-MM-DD
• near:location within:15mi
That's it!

Over 6 million people died from COVID.

Do we now have a new virus to worry about?

Monkeypox is here.

I've spent that last 24 hours scouring websites, journal articles, and expert analysis on it, so you don't have to:

🧵👇
We now have cases in the UK, Portugal, and Spain.

There are currently 36 cases across these three countries.

We knew person-to-person to transmission was rare, but do these new cases change things?
Most people know we eradicated smallpox in 1980.

But there is another orthopoxvirus in town

In 1970, the 1st case of a similar virus was seen in a human in Zaire.

It was...monkeypox

Since then, it's been in 11 African countries, including a large outbreak in Nigeria in 2017.

The most powerful social media platform in 2022:

Twitter.

But most of us aren't using it to its full potential.

Here are 5 ways to use Twitter to unlock access to the information you need: 🧵👇
Before we get started, request your data.

Most of us don't know that we can easily access our entire Twitter archive.

• Click 'More'
• Settings + privacy
• Your account
• Request an archive of your data

Once it's ready, download

You now have a wealth of info in one folder
1. See + search all your old tweets.

In that folder there's a file 'Your archive.html'

Double click it. It'll open in your browser.

You can now:

• See how many tweets you've posted
• See + search old tweets
• See all replies, retweets, + likes

Your archive is a goldmine.

Our most powerful source of information:

Google Search

We use it every day, but most of us are terrible at it.

Here are 10 Google Search tips that will transform the way you find the information you need: 🧵👇
#1: Search for the exact phrase with ""

Want to find results that contain information about Elon Musk?

Search: "Elon Musk"

You'll only see results with Elon Musk and it won't include results with just Elon or just Musk.
#2: Include similar words with ~

Want to find info on the best online learning platform?

You might not be sure of the exact phrase, but using a tilde will help you out

Search: best online learning ~platform

Results will include synonyms for 'platform' in the search results.

Of all the meeting platforms we've used over the last 2 years, Zoom is the one I love most.

Most of us think we know Zoom inside out.

But we don't.

Here are 7 Zoom hacks you probably haven't heard of, but you'll be glad you now know.

🧵👇
#1: Want to share something from your iPhone?

Sometimes we have a a webpage, or a document on our phone not our computer.

Click:
• Share screen
• iPhone/iPad via AirPlay
• Follow the instructions to mirror screen

Now you can share your mobile screen with the audience.
#2: Need to turn off your camera and mic quickly?

If the doorbell rings and you need to duck out, rather than fumbling with the mouse...use shortcuts.

Camera:
• Cmd + Shft + V (Mac)
• Alt + V (Windows)

Mic:
• Cmd + Shft + A (Mac)
• Alt + A (Windows)

Quick and easy.

In 2019 I delivered online tutorials and I thought I was brilliant.

But the student feedback said that I was...boring.

So I've spent the last 2 years learning, watching others, and studying technique on running online tutorials.

Here are 6 things I learned:

🧵👇
#1: Don't use slides.

Medics love putting slides up online. It reassures us that we know what to say next.

I've forced myself to make a 'no slides' rule.

Instead I:

• Look at the learners
• Show my face
• Really connect
#2: Allocate one person to tech.

Most educators aren't tech geniuses, + that's ok. Letting people into the room, creating breakouts, keeping time - we get flustered.

I know now that when I teach, EDUCATION is where my focus should be. I find a buddy to run tech.

Much smoother.
