Welcome to the live reporting thread of INDvNED (W). It’s the final two matches for the Indian eves in Bhubaneswar this season. Can they finish on a high note? Or will the current league leaders continue their momentum from their back to back wins against USA?
Here’s how the two teams line up for the contest today! #INDvNED
Both India and Netherlands with much changed teams from their last matches. India, usually a young side, are missing a few of their players, who have headed to the Women’s junior World Cup (and they have made it to the SF too). Netherlands much changed with 8 total debutants!
Team are out for the national anthems. Netherlands first, followed by the Indian anthem, where the crowd joins in as well! Electric atmosphere here. Players and crowd with special applause for Navneet Kaur of India, who plays her 100th match for them!
Q1 1’ IND 0-0 NED (W)
Netherlands get us underway in this contest today. They’re donned in their traditional orange kits, and they will be attacking from the left to right. India in their blues.
Calm start to the game with both teams looking for a footing in the middle of the field. Not unexpected, given the number of changes both teams have made to their line-ups.
3rd PC to Netherlands. It’s been constant attack from them. This time its Morgenstern who gets in from the right and her attempted cross catches an Indian foot.
India have their first entry into the circle from the left and it forces the Dutch keeper into action. And she does well to react quickly and smother the chance.
India make their chance count. They win a PC, but Gurjit’s shot is saved. It goes back to Gurjit who passes it to Navneet. Her cross is deflected in by Neha!
Netherlands looking for an answer, attack from the left. It’s Fortuin who makes her way into the circle, and after a scuffle in the box, its Savita who kicks it away.
Deep Grace Ekka with a great hit into the Dutch circle that the defenders allow to run across. It could’ve been dangerous with an Indian attacker lurking, but it goes out.
Dutch domination in the first 10 minutes. India settled well after sustaining the early pressure, and scored off their first opportunity thanks to Neha’s deflection from a Navneet pass. Free flowing and attacking game. Fun 3 quarters to go here!
Q2 17’ IND 1-0 NED (W)
Great work by Morgenstern to run at the Indian defense and pass it off to Jansen at the top of the circle. But great tackle by Navjot to win it back.
Fortuin with a weaving run from defense to attack from the left. She gets all the way into the Indian circle and has a reverse shot, but its off target.
Chance! Fortuin with time and space to get a shot away after great work on the right wing from Morgenstern. But she gets under the ball and it sails over the goal!
It’s Gurjit’s shot, but its well saved by Remmerswaal who is on the keeping duties in the 2nd quarter for the Dutch. Not Gurjit’s best, but needed saving.
A bit of scuffle in the Dutch circle ends up with Rajwinder finding a lot of space with only the keeper ahead of her. But her shot is chipped and off target.
Penalty Corner to India is saved first, but ball stays near the keeper. Soniya is right there and has an empty goal, with the keeper off-balance, and she does the job.
It’s Jansen again! She goes for the right corner, but she misses the target and it goes just wide outside of the post. India maintain their 2 goal lead!
Who would’ve thought this would be the score given the way the game started. But India survived the early scares through some great defending and have found their footing in the game. They have had 2 big chances through penalty corners and taken them well!
Q3 31’ IND 2-0 NED (W)
India get us underway in the second half. They will be attacking from the left to right in this second half. Netherlands need to take the initiative here to find a way back.
India with the first attacking opportunity from the center. It’s Monika who has room and takes a shot. But its intercepted and cleared by the Dutch defense.
India will be happy with the way the 2nd half has begun. They have an equal battle in the mid field and with Netherlands committing so many to attack India can counter.
Netherlands win the ball back in Indian territory and van Loon has space for a shot from the right. But her shot is off target. Close but not close enough!
Mosch with the great run from the left sends a dangerous cross in front of the goals, but no one gets a touch on it and it runs across the circle and out!
What a final 15 we have in store here. India kept things calm for the first 10 mins with ease. But the Dutch finally got a goal through a stroke resulting from a PC. That has given them a scent and they have had a lot of chances. 15 mins to go, who wins?
Q4 46’ IND 2-1 NED (W)
Lifted ball in the Dutch circle and it falls to Jyoti who takes a snap shot on the raised ball. But it’s difficult to control it and its high and off target to the left.
What a pass by Jansen! She finds Morgenstern in the left inside the Indian circle. And she takes a quick shot on the reverse that hits the outside of the post & goes out!
Saved by Savita! Smart work from her. The ball goes to the first castle and she knows it’s not a drag flicker, so she goes flat on the ground and saves!
India with a dangerous free hit just outside the circle. They work it around and have good space on the left, but the ball isn’t well controlled and opportunity goes away.
It’s all over! India have recorded a great victory over their Dutch counterparts. This is their first win over the Dutch in over a decade! Great game of hockey. Showcasing the importance of tactical versatility and great pressing defense!
