I applied to more than 300 jobs before I landed my first junior software engineer role.

Here are 7 tips to get your first job as a software engineer.
1/ We can tell if you only spent an hour on your resume.

Whether you apply online or via a referral, your resume is the first thing you'll be asked for.

Compare your resume against the job you want. Do they match?

If not @austinbelcak has a free tool: cultivatedculture.com/resume-scanner/
2/ Find the 3rd door.

The 'software engineering club' has big bouncers that love to keep junior engineers from getting in.

Find a unique way to get in front the hiring manager.

Volunteer at #ReactJS conferences. Help the sponsors & meet the hiring manager.
3/ Coffee Date == Informational Interview

If they're not hiring juniors, ask for an informational interview.

You'll get a first hand look at: the language they use, problems they're currently facing and a chance to ask for a referral to someone else.
4/ 🎯 Target Practice

Make a list of companies/people.

Leverage LinkedIn to run boolean searches to see if you have a relationship at the company, if they hired a bootcamp grad & more.

You can literally find all Uber drivers that went to Flatiron, got hired & their manager.
4a/ Bonus

If you don't have a clue about how to professionally use LinkedIn. The big homie, @DThompsonDev, has a free course (700+ junior devs got jobs).

Don't get swindled by a LinkedIn grifter trying to take your money.
5/ Prepare

-Use @prampco and @interviewingio for mock interviews.
-Study these 14 patterns if you're still stuck hackernoon.com/14-patterns-to…

If you're still stuck @clemmihai runs AlgoExpert and its fairly priced.
6/ You need (3) mentors.

Find 3 mentors: one that's 1-2 steps ahead you (hired as a junior developer), another that's 3-5 steps ahead of you (a senior engineer) another that's 10-15 steps ahead of you (manager, director/ vp).

Understand which perspective they give advice from.
7/ Stay connected.

Find (or create) a community that meets up regularly. Being part of a community that meets consistently will help you overcome the day-to-day losses.

Just offer to host a Zoom room where everyone is on mute, but working on job hunting.
