"I respect Frank (Vogel) as a coach, as a man," @KingJames said Monday before the #Lakers dismissed their head coach. "Our partnership that we’ve had over a few years here has been nothing but just candid, great conversations."

"And this guy who gives everything to the game, prepared us every single night along with his coaching staff as well, I give those guys a lot of credit too. ... I’ve got nothing but respect for him."

More on Vogel's firing:

No coach engenders the animosity of Lakers fans like Doc Rivers.

Yet no coach would be more perfect to lead them after Frank Vogel's firing, @BillPlaschke writes. latimes.com/sports/lakers/…
“What happened?” one late-season opposing player wondered after beating the Lakers. “They stink.”

The Times talked to 20 coaches, players, scouts and executives with the Lakers and some rivals to recount the most disappointing season in franchise history.

Over the last decade, there’s been a growing threat to wild white sage propelled by those who probably consider themselves allies of the natural world and likely have no idea that their actions are endangering the plant they revere: sage stick smudgers. 🧵 latimes.com/lifestyle/stor…
You’ve seen them on social media, television and film: actors, influencers and celebrities waving thick, smoldering bundles of dried white sage leaves to smudge away negative energy or evil spirits, or just purify the air. latimes.com/lifestyle/stor… Image
This mania for white sage has become a global phenomenon, with websites all over the world selling fat bundles of dried sage for purification or cleansing. latimes.com/lifestyle/stor… Image

The Times has filed a lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles that seeks to force Mayor Eric Garcetti’s office and the Fire Department to release numerous internal records in the case of a high-ranking fire official who was reported to be drunk on duty.

The official was reported to be drunk on duty during a major blaze but faced no discipline and retired with a $1.4-million payout.

“I don’t want to do what the bread guys & the gas guys & everybody else are doing.”

AriZona iced tea prices are not changing – even with inflation – the company’s founder says.

A 23-ounce can costs 99 cents, the same price it has been for 30 years ago.

latimes.com/business/story… Image
Today, that’s cheaper than most bottled water, 20-ounce sodas, iced teas and canned coffees on the market. If you could fill your car up with cans of AriZona Green Tea with Ginseng and Honey, it would be cheaper than L.A. gas by nearly 40 cents a gallon.

latimes.com/business/story…
How does AriZona pull this off while everything else goes up?

The short answer: the company is making less money. The big cans are still profitable, but for the moment, they’re much less so than a few years ago.

Lots of people want their cremated remains scattered in the sea, but that’s not what Lois Woodburn had in mind.

“She said, ‘My whole body in there. Just throw me in the ocean. That’s what I want,’” said her daughter, Teresa Stremcha.
