+10° at 6 o’clock👍🏻
Tulips stick up in everywhere, not just by the warm wall, & my pile if branches grows. Slow work, but at least the nearby flowerbeds are rinsed, ready for new soil
Right now it’s 69 days 16hrs 12 min until the summer solstice June 21
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImageImage
Even warmer today: 6pm it is +12° & the first drops of rain make me give up & go inside
My patio is now more or less swept, ready for pots & benches
I’ll prune the ivy tomorrow
It is now exactly 68 days, 17 hrs, 9 min until the summer solstice June 21, 11.14am
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImage
A rainy day & change is now rapid
Buds on the lilac is swelling & if you look closely my yellow anemones are on their way up
Even the meadow on the other side of the street has a few green patches
It is exactly 67 days 15 hrs until the summer solictice June 21
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImageImage
Lovely day, but spent minimal time outside …
8pm it was +7° & As I said goodnight to the Robin & went inside

1st green leaves on elderberry & bird cherry
Next are the beeches

It is exactly 66 days 14 hrs 18 min until the summer solstice at 11.14, 21 of June
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImage
Easter is over
Family & today neighbors visited (the mocha cake tasted 👍🏻, you never know before)
Change outside is very rapid-Crocus are gone & yellow Anemones replacing Scilla, 1st tulip buds
It is 64 days 15 hrs 7 min until summer solstice at 11.14, June 21
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImageImage
Another lovely day. Woke up to a cold morning & had all kinds of plans, but I find my energy lasts until about 2 pm … Got my too long board cut, spent an hour looking for my wooden plugs & then my son arrived to pick up last 1/3 of the cake … 1/2
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImage
After that the patio was just too hot in the sun
Now at 8 in the evening I see swelling buds, lilacs & cherry, but my lawn is still a mess with bean tree seeds everywhere

It’s too dry…
It is 63 days 15 hrs 12 min until summer solstice at 11.14, June 21
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
It’s a beautiful evening … still +10°C
#midsummercountdown Image
Another warm day, but a bit cloudy so not feeling as hot. New nematodes, to get rid of larvae & ants, arrive next week. Peonies are now showing in the flowerbed
It’s been a very lazy day. Just reading & doing nothing, taking it easy.
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
I had the sprinkler on all afternoon, trying to improve conditions for the replanted rhododendrons
Bulbs are really growing right now & all new/moved plants except 1 bush peony look healthy
It is 62 days 15 hrs 56 min until summer solstice at 11.14, June 21
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
9 pm and still light …#midsummercountdown Image
Not much gardening today, but I did some preparatory shopping:
Sacks of potting soil, new manure to mix with the huge soil pile & fill holes + dress flowerbeds, perlite & loads of pansies in white, orange, dark red, pink, light blue, light purple …
#midsummercountdown
Too much for the car, so delivered tomorrow
Time to bring out all pots from under the bench & pretty up the patio!
8 pm the sun set & it was still very warm
Much more green grass in my kitchen view
It is now 61 days 12 min 50 min until summer solstice June 21
#midsummercountdown Image
The day started at the workshop-change to summer tyres on the car some 25 km from home. In the backdrop the sallow is now in full bloom, also those around here
No wonder it’s been hard to sleep with all that pollen in this dry weather, next will be birches …
#midsummercountdown Image
I then shopped fresh fruit, but not the rosemary plant I was actually looking for & then picked up the parcel of new nematodes on my way home. When I got home the delivery of soil and pansies arrived… To late to do anything about today.
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
I’m checking whatever extra allergy medication I have & I almost forgot to take a photo of the sunset at 8, still +14°
The bird cherry tree now has huge buds as most of my flowering bushes
It is now 60 days 13 min 44 min until summer solstice June 21 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown Image
Sorry 13 hrs 44 min … that’s how tired I am.
It’s almost + 5 minutes per day from sunrise to sunset right now … I’m not sure the change to summertime is good for us. Takes too long to adapt. It’s actually quarter to 11 & I feel it too. Me & 🐄s 😴
#midsummercountdown
Today was very busy
Started by cutting down fuchsias in the basement, relieve the garden benches from chilies & turning off the lamps that have been shining all winter
Serious cleaning needed tomorrow
Next sweeps the patio & got the pots from under the bench
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
The pile of branches is growing … I’ve not even got to the front side. Those roses by the fence are tricky. You need really thick gloves
But at least the bench is in place.
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
From the hammock it actually looks quite tidy…
Remains to move seeds, nuts & bird feeders & thaw salt to the garage. And my bench by the stonewall needs mending … Tomorrow!
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
Ended by bringing out the roof for the hammock. I’ll put it up tomorrow & get the cushions from upstairs. I need to prune roses & the ivy as well
At 8 it was still +15°
It is now 59 days 13 hrs 57 min until the summer solstice 21:st of June, 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown Image
Quite a spectacular sunrise out there at 5.30 … But way too early to get up on a Saturday… only +5°C so far
I’m back to bed
#midsummercountdown Image
This is more like it. At 10 am it is +8° and the house opposite the small bay, fully seen during the winter, has more or less disappeared in lush greenery as smaller bushes and trees turned green during the night. Even the birches have a tint of green today.
#midummercountdown
Of course I did not accomplish all I planned. I should have learned by now: 1 active day gives 1 idle
I did fix top and cushion for the hammock. Still waiting for the trees
Here’s honeysuckle & buds on the small cherry (look like they will explode any minute)
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImage
Plus it was really cold in the wind. Not at all like yesterday.
I ended up inside updating the About on my website. 4 yr anniversary in a few hours ..
It is now 58 days 13 hrs 58 min until the summer solstice 21:st of June, 11.14 am Image
Less wind today @ the anemones are lovely… So far I’ve cleaned the basement floor, took care of washing, fetched a spinach pie from the fridge (night guests arriving tonight), replanted begonias & now considering on the patio, having coffee
#midsummercountdown Image
As I inspect the garden the magnolia by the wall, heavily pruned in October, has decided to at least have a few flowers
Solomon seals happily stick up through sand & gravel along the logs
They used to grow under the fur tree hedge which shows how wide it was
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
Tomorrow will be a very busy day outside. I’m getting help filling in holes, spreading soil, manure and nematodes. I need to make a list of where. I’ll also get help fetching the neighbors’ heavy mulching machine, so that the pile of branches can be tackled
#midsummercountdown
As it all starts at 8 am first thing will be to put on the sprinkler along the fence. Tonight or really early. At least one space properly wet and ready for sensitive nematodes #midsummercountdown Image
It’s a super long list, and growing.
If we accomplish even 1/4 of it it’s good. Now I need to continue inside

It is now 57 days 17 hrs 28 minutes before the summer solstice on 21:st of June, 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown
Early morning, 7 am …
On my way out to put on the sprinkler …

#midsummercountdown Image
And of course it’s frozen.. damned🤬
First package of 2 mixed with water + a few drops of dish wash soap, then a couple of dL in each watering can (holes enlarged with a drill yesterday), then spread & watered down
If careful that bucket will last at least half of all places where it’s needed
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImage
At 8.15 pm & the sun has set. Every possible place has been treated with nematodes against larvae & ants. Most flowerbeds got more soil mixed with manure & best of all the eyesore of white sacks are emptied & gone… very content
#midsummercountdown Image
This is all the large size gravel that was left, I was right, just enough for this space
It is now 56 days 14 hours 46 minutes until the summer solstice 21 of June at 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown Image
And it’s completely still - the lake like a mirror
#midsummercountdown Image
Around 8 pm the wind falls asleep ahead of night. It’s been a cloudy day, spent mostly indoors, taking care of washing, watering chilies & a few seeds, sleeping and resting after the busy weekend & Monday.
#midsummercountdown Image
As I sit on the patio, listening to the blackbirds, a lonely wood pigeon is picking up whatever in the soil
The garden finally looks quite tidy, ready for whatever. The first tulip buds are large by now
#midsummercountdown
Cobble stones moved to the far end and the huge pile of soil reduced to half certainly helps. More than enough left for remaining holes after moved bushes
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
Understand we will get some rain tomorrow afternoon - spares me some work. I really like the look of the huge Alliums along the fence. They look more than healthy - and impressive
#midsummercountdown Image
It is now 55 days, 14 hrs, 37 min until the summer solstice on June 21, 11.14 am …
Glorious morning April 27
Already fairly warm at 9 o’clock
I take my coffee outside …
I have almost no idea which tulip bulbs ended up where of the about 200 planted in haste in November, but I’m about to find out. These are the nearest
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
The perennial flowerbed by the house wall has now reached the stage when peonies will need some support before long
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImageImage
I’m accompanied by the wood pecker also having a morning treat
#midsummercountdown Image
8.30 pm & no, the expected rain did not arrive. Did as little as possible outside, a grey day with some wind
Slept & read
Brushed the cat
It is now 54 days 14 hrs & 43 minutes until the summer solstice on June 21:st, 11.14 am

Daylight for yet 1 hr outside …
#midsummercountdown Image
Today our little street is swept from thaw salt and gravel, spread during the winter. The municipality usually collects and reuses - which is good
#midsummercountdown
I have food delivery tonight. Running out of fruit and veggies.
So far I’ve fed the birds breadcrumbs, sunflower seeds & over ripe banana in, under & around the azalea
It’s time for some serious vacuuming inside & paying bills … Garden chores is for later
#midsummercountdown Image
One thing is to find a more permanent place for those daffodils

As I check on the flowerbed near the house I find the first early summer flowers right by the stairs - Bleeding hearts about to burst.
But no tulips in flower yet & no green leaves on the trees
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
The food delivery arrived, bills paid, tax declaration sent in
This is my new cherry & crabapple trees this evening, very promising indeed
It is 53 days 15 hrs & 12 minutes until the summer solstice on June 21st, 11.14 am
I’d better tend to the bags of food…
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
9.10 pm and dusk
Still warm outside
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImage
Morning fog about to lift …
#midsummercountdown Image
It’s been a grey cloudy day
I’ve cleaned floors, watched small birch leaves & the bird community
The magpie couple clearly consider my garden their territory
They don’t tolerate any other crow birds, patrol the boarders & swiftly got rid of a stray hungry Jay
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
Now at 8.45 pm some of the blue sky is seen again.

It is now 52 days, 14 hrs & 27 min until the summer solstice on June 21st, 11.14 am and daylight lingers longer and longer
#midsummercountdown Image
Valborgsmässoafton, celebrating spring, dinners, bonfires & in academic settings choir singing of rather nationalistic songs from the 19th C (@maxelson knows all about this)
People pass all dressed up, like this guy carrying a wine bottle
Fire here is lit 8.30
#midsummercountdown Image
It’s been both sunny & cloudy
I’ve fed birds, cleaned last floor, sprayed daffodils between patio tiles with vinegar & spent some time on twitter
It looks like the maples & apple bloom will win the race of first leaves
Earliest tulips now show their colors
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
Chives & garlic look great so far …

It is now 51 days, 16 hrs & 30 min until the summer solstice on June 21, 11.14 am
Tomorrow will be quite another kind of celebrations … Image
The event is live on FB
Local scouts administrate, light the fire etc. The person to give a Speech to Spring is still a secret;)
In about half an hour those that have finished their meals will start moving
I’ll see the smoke from here
#midsummercountdown
facebook.com/events/bor%C3%…
Today is really start of presummer
Birches and maples edging the lake are finally turning green. I’ve seen the first flowers on my new cherry tree
Tonight I’ll check progression

Pizza for dinner, dough and topping prepared, I’d better turn on the oven…
#midsummercountdown Image
Ready to go👍🏻
#midsummercountdown Image
At 9.15 there was still some light
There are now 3 flowers on the cherry tree and many more to come, but most bushes here are the “every 2nd year” kind. That goes for the azalea & the bean tree (the later almost a blessing considering all the seed pods)
#midsummercountdown Image
Others were severely pruned, so might need a year to recover.
And last year was exceptional. But I have others that were pruned wrong time year before & will bloom excessively now

It is now 50 days, 13 hrs, 32 min until the summer solstice on June 21, 11.14 am
Today was a windy and chilly day. +2°C & fog at 5 o’clock (I actually saw a woman on her morning run before work at dawn & I quickly went to bed again)
At 9 it looked like at least sun, but very windy
I fed the birds and then, within an hour, all gray and cold
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
Now at 7 pm I’ve had the sprinkler along the fence on for about an hour & I decided to finally get the pansies in to pots, but had to give up. The gusts are too cold

It is now 49 days, 16 hrs, 4 min until the summer solstice on June 21, 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown Image
Today started cold and windy, but after a while it became quite a lovely day & I got loads done: Moved all pansies to pots (white down by the hammock), replanted 4 tagetes that had sprouted inside, prepared a whole box of perennial seeds to move inside …
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImageImage
I hope this window is light enough. I have loads of space to cover. These are all pink and red. I’ll prepare another box to put in the guest room tomorrow.
#midsummercountdown Image
The white/light yellow pansies will light up by the hammock. I usually have white bedding plants down there as it’s shady when the trees get their leaves. I also managed to get the daffodils from Easter placed, 1 set under the cherry & 1 beside the blueberries
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
And look! The first tulip❣️
I answer @TeacherTapp questions & no, I’ve not been worried today, gardening helps…
Tomorrow I’ll clean up to before I continue. If the weather keeps…
It is now 48 days, 16 hrs, 34 min until the summer solstice June 21, 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown Image
It has been a slow, lazy day after cold morning (only +-0° at 6 am)
Now at half past 7 I’m ready to go inside
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
Even if I did not reach as far as planting any seeds, I’ve prepared for it - 5 boxes in the end, each with place for 80 plants
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
I watch the 2 new trees now at dawn and it’s clear that the cherry will not get much more flowers this year. I suppose it needs a boast of better soil around the roots. The crab apple looks fantastic on the other hand
#midsummercountdown Image
It’s getting chilly. The sun has set
Tomorrow I’ll put on the sprinkler hose along the fence again. Maybe plant a few seeds. At least the ones I plan to keep inside
It is now 47 days, 15 hrs, 37 minutes until the summer solstice on June 21, 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown Image
Today it’s grey, but not too cold. Ended last night making an inventory of the plants I’ve kept inside over the winter
I’ve so far lost
1 chilie (but the rest are flowering & some even have fruits)
2 geraniums, 3 left
1 begonia
1 small grape plant
#midsummercountdown Image
After having had the sprinkler on for 1,5 hrs I get my remaining seeds from last year from the garage. And I have lots. No problem filling 5x80 spaces in those boxes
#midsummercountdown Image
I then tour the garden … the clematis out front are doing great, but sadly non of the ones along the fence have shown any sign of life. Cross my fingers, hope & pray🙏🏻
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
In this small triangle beside my gate & driveway I apparently gained inmates
The heap of soil with bushes, covers the roots of a giant fur tree that used to grow here & was chopped down as I had drainage done 20 years ago
Someone moved in 😱
Not so good
#midsummercountdown Image
My flowerbed by the wall is now quite impressive.
Finished by fetching the support for the peonies

Time for a dentist hygienist appointment in town
Ev seed planting will be later
It is now 46 days, 21 hrs, 35 min before the summer solstice June 21st, 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown Image
No seeds, but a late, awesome dinner when I finally got home - mackerel soup as it’s traditionally made in Bohuslän👌🏻

I only got half way home …
When I’d purchased the fish my car refused to start. In the end I had to leave it & my neighbor came to fetch me
#midsummercountdown Image
It has been a grey day after yesterday’s afternoon & late night (ever tried to cook fish soup from scratch in great hurry, broth & all? I filled the dishwasher afterwards)
So I woke late, & had to take care of the food/pharmacy delivery from yesterday first
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
Then on to my car & thankfully it’s been picked up & delivered to the workshop🥰 (start motor still completely dead)
Outside the squirrel had finally managed to get the seed feeder lose from the azalea, breaking a branch & leaving it on the lawn, so fixed that
#midsummercountdown Image
With remaining fish soup & broth in the freezer, emptied dishwasher & cardboard remains gone it’s already evening .. still +12° and very still. I did a bit of seed “planning” but not much more & some support ended up around the peonies, but not nearly enough
#midsummercountdown Image
At 7 pm I have decided that enough is enough … heading out to sit & listen to the black birds 🎵🎶

It is now 45 days, 16 hrs, 3 min until the summer solstice on 21st of June, 11.14 am & the long spring evenings are meant to be enjoyed …
#midsummercountdown Image
Started today checking on the seeds planted inside & there are quite a lot sprouting already. Definitely time for a reorganization if I want room for one more box of 80 small squares inside.
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImage
My cayenne bush landed in the kitchen & as it needed a slight pruning I ended taking cuttings. It is my absolute favorite Chilie. Very hot and gives lot of fruit
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
I then decided to finally cut back the ivy. Ivy has to be kept under strict discipline, doing it’s best to move inside and climb nearby walls. I managed to clean the space by the door, but in the process I ripped open a large flake of skin on my right hand 🤬
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
After rinsing & dressing the wound I was certainly slowed down. Lots of options concerning soil, gravel, manure were suddenly impossible
Also things like cleaning, showering, washing my hair, or baking. I managed to cut the rest of the ivy … slowly, carefully
#midsummercountdown Image
So, I spent most of the day, just watching the birds, sitting idly. Getting older you get thinner, dryer skin. It’s easy to forget. Not that it hurts, not at all, but it is a nuisance.
All garden gloves went strait to the washing machine …
#midsummercountdown
Birds were really something, not just the winter set, as insect eaters have arrived as well- a sky of swallows this morning & very happy for the couple of flycatchers hunting each other back & forth (+tiny bats last night)
They will keep amount of midgets down
#midsummercountdown Image
With clean gloves & using only my forefinger & chopstick seeds in the below box is the task for tomorrow, to be placed inside in the sunny window where the cayenne stood

It is now 44 days, 13 hrs, 28 min until the summer solstice on 21st of June, 11.14 am …
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
And that’s it for this hot Sunday: the box to go inside is planted and marked up, still mostly perennials, but also dill & basil. I’ll water & bring it inside tomorrow.
(The red bucket is for my blueberries @eyebeams. Added soil from the 3 deceased geraniums)
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
Now it’s cooling off as the sun sets at 9. Only +10° outside. Time for the blackbird serenade.
It is now 43 days, 14 hrs, 13 min until the summer solstice on 21st of June, 11.14 am
Lush and green …
#midsummercountdown Image
It has been another hot day. I started out bravely by bringing the lawn mower out of the garage, taking my box of seeds inside & water indoor plants. Then ordered more bandage material for my hand + fruit & then it was suddenly too hot…
#midsummercountdown
So I divided my time between watching things grow & birds courting, cleaning glowing & painting yet a kitchen drawer + slowly preparing some food. Finally in the evening you could sit on the patio again. The beech trees are finally showing their first leaves
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
By noon tomorrow it will rain + Wednesday. Even my mossy lawn will need a cut. You can see the change approaching on that western sky
#midsummercountdown
But that is later, tomorrow …

It is now 42 days, 13 hrs & 45 min until the summer solstice on June 21st, 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown Image
Warm cloudy day, but rain & all deliveries arrived early, so I’m retreating inside… hard though. The air is so clean it smells of oxygen
Magpies have had a busy morning chasing off jackdaws. Especially one ind. even refused to fly off next to me on the patio
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
It’s now raining hard, but as that piece of seeds & lard was all that was left, I made an effort & filled the bird feeders (mending one) + spread peanuts, some bits of fruit & breadcrumbs on the ground. Hopefully it will keep the squirrels & large birds there
#midsummercountdown Image
As I scan the space I see that YES! both the seemingly dead bush peony & the clematis along the fence are alive after all… And the white tulips are spectacular by now…
Among the delivery were several fresh spices to go outside. Cannot bear to wait for seeds
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImage
+14°, It’s summer rain…
I head inside, quite content & I think like Mumin Mama did: “How it will grow…” as she fell asleep after throwing the Hemul’s left herbs in the wizards hat…
It is now 42 days,20hrs & 13min until the summer solstice June 21, 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown Image
As predicted the night was warm & without rain. My plan, as I sat watching the back view and the birds with a cup of coffee was to perhaps replant the herbs I got yesterday into pots & raised beds. First out of the flowering bushes is the mahonia ..
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
I then watch the pair of magpies chase off this obnoxious jack daw (here just a couple of meters away from me) & wonder a bit where they have their nest these days. Apparently my garden is theirs, even if I made them homeless by cutting down the fur tree hedge
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
I then dressed the wound on my hand. It has healed almost perfectly since Thursday, the big flap of skin is now in place, but there is still a thin wound along the edge, so any soil or planting is out of the question for a couple of more days…
#midsummercountdown
Then, right when it started to rain again, my nice neighbor had picked up these 3 Jasmine of Toscany (I’m still without a car) It’s a bold experiment, raised in NL, but maybe they will make it here along the fence & they were cheep enough to give it a try
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
It’s been raining fiercely on and off last hours & nature is more or less exploding. Almost impossible to remember what it looked like when I begun this thread in March…

It is now 40 days, 18 hrs & 19 min until the summer solstice on 21 of June, 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown Image
(Checking out the thread & of course I lost it after 21 days, but it looked like this & next day it snowed … ) Image
+12°C & a mix of sun & clouds today, + REALLY windy. Forecast says 18m/second in the gusts & I believe them
The first garden snail showed up yesterday evening, large black & fully grown 🤬
Promoting & taming …
I’m creating a view, egoistic when you consider
#midsummercountdown Image
Another aspect of that is the other side of the house, where my neighbors are extending their house. In just about a week that project will disappear behind the leaves of my trees, the results to be relieved in the autum …
#midsummercountdown Image
There are a few garden choices for the rest of the day:
Fetch plastic gloves to prepare my hand & replant seedlings or
Fetch my thickest winter gloves & prune thorny roses
In the end I decide against both & go out to feed the birds. Too chilly. Maybe later
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
Having feed them the very last sunflower seeds, peanuts, cookie crumbles & cubes of ripe banana on the ground I take my coffee outside
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
But the hard wind & the builders makes it less enjoyable
They are presently opening up the bottom floor wall up there
I move my pots of Star Jasmins out of the wind & head inside
It is now 39 days, 19 hrs & 12 min until the summer solictice, June 21, 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown
The weather is better today, only one shower so far, but no warmth. You need a thick sweater. I dressed my hand wound & no! No gardening yet. But let’s take a tour and assess spring so far. I’ll scrap the hashtag for some of this … first an overview:
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImage
The flowerbed to the left of the patio is a bit less dense than I would like. The red peony, moved from beside the hammock in October, is coming nicely, but the crocosmia in the far corner is def. struggling. So I order some bulbs. Already on their way…
#midsummercountdown Image
Around the corner, in the round flowerbed under the magnolia tree the few hellebores are fighting for survival against the yellow anemones. I’ve no idea what color these tulips are, but probably yellow
#midsummercountdown Image
As I turn around to the stone wall, there is first my present collection of sticks, waiting to be taken care of @MisterMag1ster @Mr_N_Wood
The flowerbed along the wall is spilling out into the lawn. Mowing is needed
But tuban lilies look fantastic & have multiplied & 0 lily bugs ImageImageImage
The bird cherry three is now full of flowers at the top & the low branches are not far off… Longing for the evening smell already
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
Down by the hammock my rhubarbs are now appearing, but they sure need both better soil & severe weeding. That wooden frame can be scrapped now that the gooseberries have moved to the fence. And more bergenia cuts to suppress
#midsummercountdown Image
Circling the patio next are the 2 slab boxes next to the lilacs, originally planned for herbs & now slowly falling apart
They contain garlic, oregano & chives-ready for new manure and weeding
At the side is yet another deep hole. The mice/rat just keeps opening new entrances 🤬 Image
Then comes the flowerbed right side of the patio. Once bright blue, filled with nepeta, irises & lavender it is still heavily infested with gout weed. I hope rodents enjoy the roots and leave my new tulips be
Beside the stairs is Monday’s challenge-rebuild of the retaining wall ImageImage
Next comes the perennial flowerbed by the house wall. Really doing well, but typically full of June blossom. Nothing later.
The 2 new trees need to be rid of their cardboard & the cherry really needs a boast of manure watered down. Only sand left when it was planted last of all. ImageImageImage
Behind the corner the wild, spiky roses are an eyesore right now, but the moved honeysuckle is doing great
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
Up front, these clematis are really growing fast & I have wild blueberries as well @eyebeams ;)
In the triangle by the gate new tulips are on their way (no idea what colour) & the tiny apple tree has survived yet a winter …
(There’s more, but … this is getting a bit heavy) ImageImageImage
Finally along the new fence. The alliums are really promising. I don’t think all the tulips will come back next year, but some will sure lighten up the next month. ImageImageImageImage
Monday I get help with spreading the pile of soil, planting Star Jasmines in between the clematis & hopefully place at least the largest boulders in that retaining wall
Also the space in front of the logs needs to be rinsed of stones to save the lawn mower
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
The list will be longer than that though… I will need to decide what’s most urgent
Plants now growing in the wrong place, put down in a haste. That gravel path to finish…

But Sunday we are promised full summer. With both vinyl & garden gloves I’ll give at least the herbs a try Image
It’s getting really chilly, building up for this evenings rain. Time to go inside & make some dinner. Tomorrow …

Right now it is 38 days, 18 hrs 18 min until the summer solistic on June 21, 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown Image
Saturday May 14th & still very windy. On the south side of the house the builders did not give up until 6 am, more & more screened off by the birches. The bird cherry looks fantastic by now, but with the wind there is no way of enjoying the scent
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImage
I spent the morning on #EdTwitter, resisted any replanting of growing seedlings indoor, just gave them more water (a bit late I learn to not plant seeds with different times for sprouting in 1 box)
I’ll start to move out pots kept inside tomorrow like fuchsias
#midsummercountdown Image
So I curated my website for tomorrow, ordered food delivery for next week and in the end also more of different kinds of bird food …
Apparently they expect me to feed them by now. Woodpecker & tits were quick to the addition by the patio
#midsummercountdown
Finally I filled the bird feeders by the azalea with a mix of what I could find: apple pieces, bread crumbs, peanuts, bit of cornflakes under the bush & peanuts in the feeders …
So, not much garden today
Which is probably good for my wounded hand
#midsummercountdown Image
It’s still “only” +14°, but feels a lot colder in the wind, even here in the sun…
Scanning my view I can see what needs to be done first of all on Monday- digging up weeds outside the fence. Dandelions shine bright yellow & several spirea are on their way.
#midsummercountdown Image
I don’t want any of them in the space behind the logs…

It is now 37 days, 16 hrs & 18 min until the summer solstice on June 21st, 11.14 am

It’s time to go inside and prepare dinner …
#midsummercountdown
Sunday 5.30 & only +7°
Today later be better as warm & still as promised
For now I’m back to bed…
#midsummercountdown Image
And it’s absolutely lovely, time between bird cherry & lilacs is here: (learnswedish.globatris.se/2019/05/mellan…) I will get that many lilacs this year, but still … watch that tree!
Herbs & sallad replanted, I don’t expect all dill to survive, too dense, but at least some…
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
I finished the first sack of urn soil & had to fetch the next
By then the patio was so hot I had to go inside & change to a light summer dress
I replanted the 5 tiny tagqetes in a pot, put the fuchsias outside the basement door, but they never got further…
#midsummercountdown Image
After retreating inside for awhile the sun is now setting.
Tomorrow will be extremely busy. Started a draft of a list in priority order
Some things should be moved, but they come last
As these globe flowers, memory of the former house owner & now under the moved stone table Image
Others I can take care of, such as the last blue irises & germaniums in this heap
No, I’ll put on a sweater, go out to rewrite my draft of the to-do list & enjoy the bird cherry scent
It is now 36 days 14 hrs 57 min until the summer solstice June 21, 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
I understand there is a spectacular astronomy event early tomorrow morning @A_Weatherall ;)
Better not miss that, so an early night tonight …
#midsummercountdown
The long busy Monday finished already at 2 am. A toddler cousin had arrived middle of the night as his parents went to the hospital to deliver a baby sibling
But, from an early start at 8.15 a LOT was accomplished
5 major things on the tick-off list are done!
#midsummercountdown
The Star Jasmines were planted, the weeds with wind spread seeds outside the fence were removed to the bin, the space in front of the logs was cleared from stones..
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
Then the gravel path was finally finished … with added weed retaining fabric & reused gravel sifted with water & cobblestones imbedded in sand. Very awesome & pretty 👏🏻👌🏻👍🏻
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImage
Then the retaining wall on the right side of the patio was built. Only needs a bit of soil at the bottom, but there is a heap, dug away in the process by the cherry tree.
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
Finally the fabric sticking out in front of the logs was covered with fine crusher…
So I’m taking a break now as the sun has reached the patio & before I take on vinyl gloves & give the fuchsias some new soil. My IPad is covered with pollen…
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
I still have a few hours to claim, due to that baby
But nothing on the list was as heavy & hard work as the above. And I’ll try to move soil & stone piles coming week…

It is now 35 days, 19 hrs & 38 min until the summer solistic June 21 at 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
A slow day
1st delivery of groceries, then a huge heavy box of cat sand (wood pellets, but they still weigh a ton) & sunflower seeds that will last the birds until autumn in a big sack + a package of dried meal worms 😳
Lots of cardboard & unpacking …
#midsummercountdown Image
Then talked to the workshop where my car is - apparently with a non repairable start motor. Bit happy that it was not worse & very happy that it will be fixed this week
By then it was well past noon & very hot
Got the fuchsias in place, empty boxes away etc
#midsummercountdown
At 8 pm, when these photos were taken I’d done some minor weeding, had the sprinkler on for an hour, pruned the nearest roses & went for a tour along the fence. Seems the alliums have been a bit dry, but the yellow tulips are fantastic.
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImageImage
Both the plum tree in its ring, so heavily pruned in October, & the mahonia bear witness of a hard winter & dry spring. But the little cherry has its 1st flower & as I get back to the patio the crocosmia is actually sticking up. And I ordered bulbs, lol…
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImage
At 8 it was down to + 15° and time to go inside.

Right now it is 34 days, 13 hrs, 42 min until the summer solstice on June 21st, 11.14 am

And tomorrow even more bird food arrives …
#midsummercountdown Image
A strange, warm & cloudy Wednesday
After some consideration & checking the next 10 day forecast I decided to take out all the sprouting seeds I’ve kept inside and replant as many as possible.
And it took ALL DAY to get about half replanted…

#midsummercountdown
Now, tonight, the birdcherry scent fills the air & it’s very still.
Tomorrow will be even warmer followed by evening rain

Right now it is 33 days, 14 hrs & 18 min until the summer solstice on June 21, 11.14 am & the first purple tulips are already fading …
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
Started the day with something I’ve longed for for 2 weeks … getting a proper long shower & washed my hair. My hand wound is as good as healed, only needs a tiny waterproof plaster. I then paid bills & cleared up the kitchen after yesterday’s ad hoc eating
#midsummercountdown
Then came yet another food delivery (I have to order from two places to get certain things, not optimal & what I really needed, the small anti ant boxes to fight those under my patio and in surrounding flowerbeds, where not included as out of stock. 🤬)
#midsummercountdown
By then it was time for a really late lunch … plus spending time reading up/surfing on how and where to plant my suddenly 20 Crocosmia bulbs … the advice is really very diverse. Advise anyone? #GardeningTwitter @eyebeams?
#midsummercountdown Image
Finally I then got a call that my car is fixed❣️❤️❣️& arranged for a lift tomorrow morning to pick it up👍🏻😊
And then, at 7pm, I set out on a tour around the garden. 1st around the patio. By the main stairs is where that pile of left over stones will go…
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImageImage
I will apparently get a few lilacs, only a few though
The small cherry tree on the other hand looks very cheerful & the two apple trees front and back are full of buds.
(have to do something serious about that Victoria plum, root sprouts stick up 20 dm away)
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
I still have lots of replanting to do … what remains in that box is basil, dill & tiny pink mallow. And then there is one more box…
Over the boxes the magnolia has 1 flower. Considering how heavily it was cut back, no wonder.
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImage
At 7.30 pm it was still +17° & the air was full of coming rain. A single wood pidgin looked for left over scraps & the lake surface was boiling, not from raindrops, but tiny fish

It now is 32 days 15 hrs 13 minutes until the summer solstice June 21, 11.24 am
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImage
Not much gardening today …
Fetched my car & arrived home same time as next delivery of fancy bird food
Then decided to take it real easy & cook a proper dinner for once, off & on watching this ermine among cats - same package, I’m pretty sure about that…
#midsummercountdown Image
At 9 pm it was still light…
No dusk until now when it is exactly 31 days 13 hrs & 46 min until the summer solistic on June 21, 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown Image
A busy morning: TBE vaccination, baking a cake, weeding, mixing soil & spreading manure, fighting ants … and sneezing. Lots of pollen out there.
In the evening I check on my few fruit trees. Both mature apples are fabulous & the small cherry even more so
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImage
Many of the flowering bushes are about to flower right now
Time between bird cherry & lilacs is almost over, but if you stand in the wind direction from the tree the scent still fills the air
The new crab apple will be completely pink soon. Already fantastic
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
At 9 pm it’s very still. Tomorrow, Tuesday, we’ll get some rain.

By now as I’ve put these tweets together it is 28 days, 13 hrs & 39 min until the summer solstice at June 21, 11.14 am.
#midsummercountdown Image
Tuesday May 24 & it rained all day … the few minutes I spent outside one of the squirrels & the woodpecker more or less attacked me asking for some additional food, so added a few hazel nuts in the empty container. I’ll get more peanuts tomorrow …
#midsummercountdown Image
It is now 27 days, 13 hrs, 20 min until the summer solstice on June 21, 11.14

Still dusk at 10 pm & +12°
#midsummercountdown Image
Not so warm today, quite windy & still very wet, but hopefully occasionally dryer during the day.
As I take my coffee outside the wren is back over my head, flying back & forth with moss from the bean tree for a new nest & shouting out at the same time …
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
I make a homemade container from left over pieces of fence to hang some bird food by the patio. The grey squirrel is not impressed, takes a nibble and is off. Not his favorite food, so heads strait to the azalea & the sunflower seeds
#midsummercountdown Image
So I take on a jacket & rubber boots, equip myself with a pair of scissors & the phone & go slug hunting in the wet grass. The bird cherry is now felling its petals & lilacs are in full bloom. This coming weekend the azalea will be a light orange ball …
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
The white tulips are finally giving up … on the other hand the Aronia down by the hammock will be amazing
And that cherry tree❣️If it gives even a tine bit of the fruits these flowers promise both I and the birds will be happy
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImage
I’ll see what I can accomplish today
I’m pretty stuck here until the peanuts & new bird feeders arrive (delivery between 11 am & 17 pm & has to be signed off 🙁)
#midsummercountdown
For ex. the wheel barrow is placed beside the heap of plants that are supposed to move back into the flowerbed in front of me. Almost full of water now. Not to carry weeds the roots will have to be cleansed
But not now … another heavy shower drives me inside
#midsummercountdown Image
5 kg of great news for nut lovers…
#midsummercountdown Image
The weather is really diverse today. Every time the sky clears & I decide to go out & get something done there are new dark clouds, wind & more drops of rain💧
So I give up …

It is now 26 days, 18 hrs & 10 min until the summer solstice on June 21, 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown Image
Another day of strange weather … the gusts were more storm than brisk, so felt really cold and the huge trees swayed and bent in the wind. There is not a single petal left on the bird cherry after today
#midsummercountdown Image
I did manage to weed most of the last flowerbeds around the patio & ordered a better tool for weeding. All lily bulbs are planted & I found these small fruit trees, rests from the winters feeding of blackbirds- apple or pear. One could be moved and saved
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImage
But I had to work in short sessions as too cold. At 9.45 it was only +9° & still very windy + the news certainly did not improve things…
Hopefully next days will be warmer/calmer

It is now 25 days, 12 hrs & 48 min until the summer solstice June 21, 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown Image
It’s been another cold, & windy day around +10°… looks inviting from inside, but not so when you get out. I stayed inside, slept some, received all the ordered new bird feeders, put them straight into the garage & went inside again.
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
At 8 pm the wind had calmed down
All the light green is turning darker & only the late & botanic tulips remain

It is now 24 days, 13 hrs & 57 min until the summer solstice on June 21, 11.14 am.
#midsummercountdown Image
Saturday …
This is what happens when you decide to go out & get things done
#midsummercountdown
In the end the afternoon was ok. Occasional rain but no cold wind. No digging though. And no lawn mowing. At 8 pm it was still +15°
The patio is still a mess, but my November cactuses got hung in the bean tree where they live during the summer.
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImageImage
One of the bush Chilie cuttings made it in the window
Tomorrow summer will be back…
Last tulips are these high purple ones, sharing the space with the gigantic white alliums

It is now 23 days, 14 hrs, 53minutes until the summer solstice on June 21, 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
A warm and lovely Sunday … Spent the time after noon replanting a multitude of sprouts, mostly perennials until it got too hot. I then unpacked my new larger & more robust bird feeders. As I hung the first I found a dead woodpecker, right by that dandelion😢
#midsummercountdown Image
I got really sad, quickly buried it under the rhododendron & went to sit down, thinking about how many times I’ve watched it these last winters
But suddenly there is he/she, busy fetching food, flying back & forth, mouth full…
A dead rival/spouse? Do they fight @GunnarValinder?
I then changed clothes, went a tour around the house…
The white malus bushes are awesome right now, both by the hammock & on the north of the house. The clematis is really vigorous.
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImageImage
But down by the red rododendron I found something I definitly did not plant myself ..
Hello #GardeningTwitter, #botany knowledgeable, what is this bush? See those long spikes with brown tips on the stem of the largest branch …
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
As I had fetched the spade anyway, to bury the woodpecker, I finished by digging up a few of the flowers beside the rhododendron, cleaning roots. Echinaceas went straight to the flowerbed under the window, but the two blue irises will have to wait for the rest
#midsummercountdown Image
At half past 7 the sun disappeared & it got a bit cold, time to go inside even if it was hard to leave those awesome last tulips by the patio…

It is now 22 days, 15 hrs, 1 minutes until the summer solstice on June 21, 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImage
A day of rain off & on. At least filled my new robust, 50 cm tall bird feeders with seeds & peanuts. Every now and then I went out to admire the crab apple tree & the new Japanese cherry that is now spreading out with new branches & leaves.
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
I have a pretty good view of goings on down by the azalea as I sit under the roof of the patio … although filled a few hrs ago the sunflower seeds are already reduced - one of the squirrels hung upside down eating
Peanuts seem less popular (or more protected)
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImage
I also watch the obnoxious Jackdaw unsuccessfully trying first the cage like container by the patio, then go to the azalea. I clocked how long it takes before the magpie couple dive on him - not more than 5 minutes … he’s in for a bad end if not careful…
#midsummercountdown Image
Now at 7 pm the rain stopped, but it is still very wet. We get more rain tomorrow. Those blue perennials were never dug up as planned …
It’s +13° out there & 21 days, 15 hrs & 51 minutes until the summer solistic on June 21, 11.14 am

Only 3 weeks left …
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
Another day of rain …
Absolutley nothing was done outside. Now at 10 pm it’s still very wet. As can be seen (this was 10 min ago) it’s still quite light. Evenings are long…

It is now 20 days, 13 hrs & 2 minutes until the summer solstice on June 21, 11.14
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
A day of running errands that turned out to take way more time than expected & such an amount of pollen that all I did was sneeze & cough. Got caught up in the exam celebrations of the municipality’s only upper secondary school. So many cars…
#midsummercountdown
What should have been 1,5 hour, delivering an application for a parking permit, took more like 3,5
When I got home I just went to sleep & woke up at 8, so no gardening…

It is now 19 days, 13 hrs & 20 minutes until the summer solistic on June 21, 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown Image
Thursday… it was not supposed to rain today, but it did. Not much, but on and off and cold, +12-13°
Baked a pineapple upside down straight for the freezer, went to post a letter & get rid of a lot of plastic recycling but the huge bin were full after 1 day…
#midsummercountdown
It’s really growing out there. Fast. Especially weeds. Next few days seem to be better according to the forecast
Right now it is 18 days, 14 hrs, 5 min until the summer solistic on June 21, 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImage
Friday June 3 & finally decent weather… lawn on the back of the garden is finally cut. Now you can at least see what needs to be done
The excessive flowering of the bean tree last year is everywhere, not just in the grass … here outside my door
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImageImage
Lots of flowers right now … and look at those blueberries @eyebeams
Rhododendron & peonies will be next. ImageImageImageImage
Up front the grass has grown though. Already time for one more cut. Not to mention along the street outside the fence.
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
Today I should have put on a washing machine, replanted the rest of the seedlings, planted spinach, mowed grass outside the fence, but pollen knocked me out … nothing got done

It is now 16days, 12 hrs, 58 min until the summer solstice on June 21, 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
It’s been a brilliant day. Emptied the patio of tools & sacks Tomorrow the chilies move out
They need a cosy corner, no wind, so cut some canvas from the soil heap to put behind them + stapled it to a couple of boards
When too hot I tended to the washing 👍🏻
#midsummercountdown Image
The tulips have been fantastic, these are the last. The high black ones kind of takes away the effect of the alliums. Not the best placing, but I was in a hurry in November before the first frost … Also, not a single deer got in and ate them. First time ever
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImage
I got a call & get visitors after midsummer. Perfect getting the same help to prune another 1/3 of the lilacs. Apparently they were very happy being pruned at the right time. Goal is more normal bush height. They were more or less falling over the patio before
#midsummercountdown Image
10 am & still +15°
15 days, 11 hrs, 37 min until the summer solstice on June 21, 11.14 am. Hope those interested in arkeoastronomy have a place at Stone Henge sunrise secured
We have many mountains called Midsommarberget. Look up the nearest + place to stand…
#midsummercountdown Image
Here are my achievements so far today. Some chilies needed quite a bit of TLC others already have fruits. Not enough light lately. And I found two leopard slugs in one of the pots, all inclusive winter guests…
It’s getting a bit hot
Time to hang that washing
#midsummercountdown Image
I’m pretty content with my day. Tomorrow I’ll get rid of the rest of the clutter on the patio, empty the table & we get rain.
#midsummercountdown Image
As I sit outside this is what fills the air… honeysuckle in full bloom
#midsummercountdown Image
Still +16° at half past 9…
It is now 14 days, 13 hrs & 34 min until the summer solstice on June 21, 11.14 am Image
The sudden heavy midday shower has come and gone. Right before it started I cleaned my path from the street & then this…Bean trees thankfully flowers every 2nd year, but the sallow fills the lawn with seed pods every year. A couple of branches to be sawed off
#midsummercountdown Image
I did clean my table and pick a few lilies of the valley👍🏻 Very invasive, but nice this time of the year
#midsummercountdown Image
Now waiting for a “food” (not so much food mostly other stuff, more staples for example) delivery. He’s late, but never mind. Sitting here doing nothing is quite ok
#midsummercountdown Image
More showers, in 2 hours the cleaned gravel was full of willow pods again
Tomorrow it will rain all day
Street lamps went on at 10.30
Time from sunrise to sunset is now 17hrs 15 minutes
It’s 13 days, 12 hrs, 37 min until the summer solstice June 21, 11.14am
#midsummercountdown Image
A wet Wednesday spent inside cooking dinner, trying to empty the small freezer in the kitchen watching news
Finally stopped raining at 4 in the afternoon …
I cleaned that gravel twice yesterday & look now😡
#midsummercountdown Image
Fish gratin with smoked fish 2 port + lunch box
400 g smoked mackerel, salmon or other smoked fish
600 g boiled potatoes, in centimeter-thick slices
1 leek, shredded
4 tomatoes in slices
3 eggs
1 tablespoon caviar
3 dl cream
chopped dill & thyme

I used 1/3 of those …
Not so much gardening…

Divide fish into small pieces & wrap with potatoes, tomatoes & leeks in greased ovenproof dish
Whip cream, eggs, caviar, dill & thyme, season with salt & black pepper
Pour the egg mix over the fish
About 20 min in the oven at 200°C
#misummercountdown Image
10.15 am & +11°
I made a short tour with scissors, slug hunting at 8 & found yet another of the huge blue irises. I’ll empty the soil heap of remaining plants tomorrow
There might be more
It is 12 days, 12 hrs, 46 min until the summer solistic June 21 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
This was the day it was not supposed to rain…
Went to the dentist in town to pick up my new apnea rail & thought I had loads of time, so cooked a light lunch & prepared to go out
Then it started to rain. It’s now half past 9, still drizzling & very wet
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
Tomorrow I get help:
Move huge stones to the other side of the patio, dig up spireas & plum root shots, spread soil, fill holes- it’s the last time before autumn, so 🌤 please …
It is now 11 days, 13 hours, 10 min until the summer solstice June 21, 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown Image
Of course it rained a bit in the morning … but a lot was accomplished. After all visible spireas were dug up in different places & the small x gently led to the fence, all stones were removed - huge ones to the coming wall, small ones outside the fence
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImage
Then the root sprouts of cherry plums from the plum tree were dug up & the tree got a cover of soil around so that you can keep the area clean & avoid any further root sprouts (there is a small ash as well, they act the same, so needs to be killed off 🤬)
#midsummercountdown Image
Then soil was spread generously around the purple rhododendron, to protect the roots of the huge birch & fill holes. The buttercup got a new home by the hammock & remaining holes after gooseberry & currants were filled
#midsummercountdown ImageImageImageImage
When sallow seed pods were gone & the roof over the firewood cleaned, I got a workbench outside the garage for carpentry & painting … + several more sacks of manure & planting soil for pots👌🏻
Overall a highly productive day. Very little soil left in that originally gigantic heap Image
At 8 pm it was still +15° & midsummer flowers on the other side of the street are now on their way. Tomorrow I’ll distribute some grass seeds. We get more rain next week.

It is now 10 days, 14 hrs & 31 min until the summer solistic June 21, 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown Image
Saturday …
Filled the bird feeders in the morning. Woodpecker & tits sat before me complaining after neglect yesterday
I charged the battery for the tiger saw & prepared to go out & clean my washing line after the winter & was met by rain
So baked a cake
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
Although I did not do any of the hard work myself yesterday I was too tired today for gardening. Enjoying the result was quite enough. Plus many of the main perennials are now on their way. As this red peony and the day lilies
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
Right now it is 9 days 13 hrs & 21 minutes until the summer solstice on June 21, 11.14 am

Tomorrow we get rain in the afternoon. Those grass seeds … better get up early.
#midsummercountdown Image
Rain storm and thunder this Sunday afternoon. Luckily I did not get as far as hanging any washing outside …
#midsummercountdown Image
As for wildlife it sure is slug season. This is what remains of 6 small tagqetes. I have more plants, but got my strong poison grains from the garage to go in between and in bedding pots. As I go hunting at 9.30 I only find a few, but still …
#midsummercountdown Image
All sunflower seeds were gone in the morning
Ordered a squirrel safe feeder
Magpies have now brought their offspring into the garden. 2 almost grown chicks sighted so far, sitting on low branches, gaping & waiting to be fed
Jack daws are chased away furiously
#midsummercountdown
At 9.30 it was finally a bit dryer and calmer.
It is now 8 days, 12 hours & 48 min until the summer solstice on June 21, 11.14 am & it does not really get dark at midnight any longer ImageImage
A cold, grey & windy day
Rain in the morning & hardly over 15°
Stayed inside, cleaned, read. Weeds are happy …

Neighbors came by to tell me that my dingy, 30 yrs old, is now beyond repair A new will be built, replacing both down there & that we all can use
#midsummercountdown Image
It is only 7 days, 13 hrs, 40 min until the summer solstice June 21, 11.14 am
I should add that we seldom celebrate midsummer at the proper astronomic date. The bank holiday was moved to nearest Saturday quite a while ago. @maxelson can tell you all about it
#midsummercountdown Image
It’s been a lovely day, warm & sunny … 4 machines of washing hung outside. And there will be more tomorrow. My neighbor got 1/3 of the cake. And at 10 am I went looking for slugs & spread poison at strategic places.
#midsummercountdown Image
A cloudy night, but dry & warm. Tomorrow will be less sun, but no rain. If I’m lucky I get help from my son to finally scrape & paint that sofa on the patio this week
It is now 6 days, 12 hrs & 3 min until the summer solstice on June 21, 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown Image
A still and calm evening … & now there are midgets. I’m very happy about the couple of black and white fly catchers that moved in, but I had hoped for more.
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
Today was all about washing. Only a couple of bedsheets left that were not dry at 8.30. The honeysuckle beside them fills the whole garden with its scent tonight when there is no wind.
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
The gigantic heap of soil is almost finished. I’ll have to think carefully about where it’s most needed before I use it.
#midsummercountdown Image
I find that I either have to mend the two small benches, one by the washing line and one on the patio, or else get rid of them. And the sofa by the stone wall also has parts that need to be exchanged … you risk falling through if you sit down.
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
I typically put off both grass mowing, weeding & spreading grass seeds, all very boring tasks… there is a day tomorrow too.
It is now 5 days, 12 hrs, 40 min before the summer solstice on June 21, 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown Image
Well, never put off until tomorrow… today my stomach decided to hit back and nothing was done. I really hope it improves during the night & behaves tomorrow
At least I took in the remaining bed sheets
#midsummercountdown Image
Then I had grocery delivery & 1 zoom meting scheduled. Food went straight into the freezer & fridge & I went to bed…
Tomorrow night we get rain.
It is now 4 days, 14 hrs & 50 min until the summer solstice June 21, 11.14…
#midsummercountdown Image
11.15 am … street lamp just turned on. This is facing north.
#midsummercountdown Image
This morning the gang of jackdaws had taken over. I took it real easy. Filled the car with recycling. Moved the broken bench under roof, cut down the last tulips (2 must have started upside down), ate a decent dinner, replanted a sad rosemary in sandy soil …
#midsummercountdown Image
In the afternoon the jackdaws gave up trying to break into bird feeders, the magpies returned & the rain approached
The colorful bushes are now dropping their petals, but the honeysuckle still fills the air, even if I’m sitting on the other side of the garden
#midsummercountdown Image
Beginning drizzle out there
It is now 3 days, 14 hrs & 37 min until the summer solstice June 21, 11.14…
Today the sun rose at 4.11 pm and it will set at 10.14 am
#midsummercountdown Image
Very pleased with my morning… picked up this squirrel/crow safe feeder
Got rid of ALL plastic, glass & metal recycling 👍🏻(cardboard- no way. You have to check when they empty & be there right away)
75g is max bird weight. Wonder what woodpeckers weigh?
#midsummercountdown Image
The bird feeder was perfect & as suspected the woodpecker was too heavy…
Really windy today, so curated my website & now it’s too late to take an evening photo of the lake view
It is now 2 days 11 hrs 15 min until the summer solstice on June 21, 11.14 am
#midsummercountdown
Sunday morning was filled by mending my huge cage bird feeder … they made attempts but so far not successfully…😡
#midsummercountdown Image
Then mowed the lawn up front. Here’s the woodpecker, happily entertaining my cat inside the window while I sit taking a rest under the kitchen window
#midsummercountdown
Things tend to grow in the wrong places in this garden… saving these to be moved later
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
I then cut the grass outside the fence & get as far as the crossing before I run out of cord. Ended by finally giving my mailbox a sanding & a well needed lick of paint on top.
#midsummercountdown ImageImage
Tomorrow the plan is to both cut the rest outside the fence + the hedge & severely prune whatever bushes are past blooming
Time for a break. Something to eat.

It is now only 40 hrs & 52 min until the summer solstice on Tuesday, 11,14 am
#midsummercountdown
It looks very “midsumry”out there & +15° at quarter past 9
Let’s hope the lupines keep until next weekend for any midsummer poles… Image
Making good progress … this bush was way overdue, growing up in front of the window (see above photo from yesterday)

Time for a break
#midsummercountdown Image
I did not get as far as I hoped, just the two bushes outside the windows, then it started to rain, but just these two resulted in a gigantic heap of branches to mulch. Still have the roses, rest of the hedge the jasmines to cut

I’ve been considering the “cage” bird feeder today. Even if the jack daws don’t reach the food in the middle they reach all crumbles small birds spill. I think I’ll cover the bottom of the net somehow
The other one works perfectly though. Food lasts for days

From the side this flowerbed looks awesome right now …
#midsummercountdown Image
This is the shortest night of the year… 4hrs, 11 min here & the summer solstice is just 12 hrs & 16 min away
I’ve ordered clearing grass & shrubs other side of the street on “my side” next week, when people have picked whatever flowers needed for celebrations

I’m ending this thread today (see below) #midsummercountdown
Please save it @threadreaderapp

I’ll continue to document my gardening this 1st summer after the fur tree hedge came down & the fence was installed

Today, March 21 (or rather tonight) is the spring equinox 2023. I celebrate end of winter by starting this years count down of the 91 days until the summer solistice, documenting gardening and spring/pre summer progress.
This is what it looks like today …

It’s raining & I spend my time sewing a new sweater for my cat before tomorrow’s vet check up
My 1st garden addition arrived: 10 bare rooted sloe (thinking of you @eyebeams) soak in rainwater, waiting for decision on where…

Sunday and 2 more nice calm and fairly warm days ahead. So I managed to finally shred those branches and spread the result behind the logs (tried yesterday, but too windy and cold.
Thought I’d end this thread as we turned to wintertime, but I’ll extend it a bit…

I’ll not start a garden blog, but I like to keep track of what gets done & ev. get reactions and tips from others. As I’ve just finished one hashtag, (#midsummercountdown) what should be the next? To followers + #GardeningTwitter, please vote or suggest
Giving this a week…
Anyway, I did an attempt to clean roots & move these perennials, but was held up by thunder, rain and hale. I’d better go out and put them in pots before they drown. Just waiting for a bit better weather … Image
Putting this thread in Swedish from today here …

Male Wren is now very busy delivering larvae to the ivy. No sounds yet so probably only eggs so far

Today, right now, it is 85 days 21 hrs and 56 min until the summer solistic, Tuesday 21 at 11.14 am
And now that we have changed to summertime I start my 2022 #midsummercountdown
Aim is to follow nature around my house and in the garden, but I must say it is a big mess right now- the ground frost let go only a couple of days ago. It’s time for spring cleaning!
Everything planted seems alive though & first of the 200 tulips stick up here & there👇🏻 Image
The things in full flower so far are crocus and snowdrops - hardy things that don’t mind a cold night

Think I’ve reached a decision on my book sorting
Took some serious considering

This whole process started with a new built in bookcase wall in my renovated guest room in the basement, March 2020 and collecting all crime fiction to move those down stairs
First, all children’s books, comics, readers, school books, maps & travel guides, music + lyrics, pedagogy including handbooks & finally non classic crime paperbacks are not kept in the living room
The above also includes a considerable pile of not yet read books in my bedroom - I’ve been careful to leave empty space here & there, not cram the shelves. How long it lasts is another matter

Today is the day …
The fur tree “hedge” or rather my green wall towards the side street is coming down. It’s 7 am and the guys cutting it down will be here in an hour. Not warm, only 8°C.
Planted around 1973, they are long overdue. But I’ll miss them. So will the magpies ImageImageImageImage
I’ve prepared by collecting cardboard in the garage, moving the grass and collected all my pruning from the front side in a huge pile. Ready for molding with my neighbor’s machine.
Tree trunks, cardboard and molding+all compost will hopefully be a ‘raised bed’ along the new fence Image
It’s definitely nervous. The lorry bringing poles and other material to set up the net fence and then collect all branches, arrives at 1 pm. Then not needed trunks and big branches are picked up for firewood. Clearing the space of about 35x3 m is for today.
