How do I politely tell some prominent world leaders on here that their irresponsibility and indifference over climate change are causing young people to have panic attacks and suicidal thoughts?
I've been engaging with youth climate activists for over ten years, and I am very concerned about mental health issues generally. The key to stopping this intensifying crisis is climate action from world leaders. Here's an article I wrote about this theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
I feel that I am scrupulously truthful in my messaging, both factually and emotionally. Without bold action now we are heading into a very scary future. Sugarcoating this has done tremendous damage by contributing to society's collective climate denial and inaction.
In addition, I am fighting as hard as I can - day in, day out - to help society come out of this climate and extractive capitalist nightmare. I believe we can still save so much, but we need to fight for every fraction of a degree. I'm not a "doomer," I'm a fighter.
Finally I don't believe in being polite about this, that was just a little bit of humor
Here is an example of some impoliteness I just did. #ClimateRebellion
I kind of wish I hadn't put "politely" in the original tweet, but also glad to see so many people pushing back against it! Yes, you are correct, THE TIME FOR POLITENESS IS OVER

I feel the climate movement is at a real turning point now. Climate civil disobedience around the world is rising. People are telling the truth. THIS is the energy we need. Be courageous. Mobilize and get into good trouble. I have more hope now than ever.
I do not say this lightly. It is something I feel. The young people especially know this is the fight of their lives, a life-or-death fight. Things will get very very intense and we will need to have each other's backs. But yes, it feels like a step change, and it feels right.
Not everyone is in a position to get into good trouble, but a lot of people are. Don't hold back those who are ready. Everyone needs to assess this themselves. It is a spiritual thing. And there is a very real need for support roles. You can't risk without lots of support.

I'm grateful we tried. Man, oh, man, did we try.
Scientists all around the world were arrested for taking climate action last week, including many climate scientists. The media barely reported it. This should be deeply, deeply concerning. (above was a quote from the end of #DontLookUp)
Follow @ScientistRebel1 and if you are able, chip in to the international legal defense fund for scientists who take a righteous and desperate stand for the Earth. #ScientistRebellion

Climate denial in the corporate media is so over the top, especially following the IPCC WG3 report, that I think identifying it and calling it out is a key leverage point right now
This does NOT usually come in the form "climate change isn't happening." Instead, it comes in the form of playing things down, not reporting things, making heat waves seem like a fun day at the beach, etc. and most of all, not reporting it as if our entire civilization is at risk
It also comes in the form of trying to undermine / ridicule climate activists on air. Always pull this quote out in such a situation:

Earth on track to be unlivable. Story, page 3.

You can’t make this up
The media insists on reporting Earth breakdown as just another "story" and it is leading us to ruin. This is climate denial.
This was @latimes, Tuesday, April 5, 2022, the day after the IPCC AR6 WG3 report came out (the one that said emissions must peak between 2020-2025 for a coin-flip chance of staying under even 2°C of global heating). But they are in good company

The mainstream media barely covered climate scientists getting arrested all over the world in a desperate bid to save the Earth, it is actually even worse than Don't Look Up
basically covered by @truthout, and in an op-ed I "planted" in The Guardian in the hopes of breaking through the media silence. It didn't work. Nothing in the NYT, nothing in LA Times, nothing in WaPo, nothing in Boston Globe, nothing USA Today
truthout.org/articles/1000-…
Folks, the mainstream media is largely responsible for climate inaction... because if they weren't complicit we'd actually be able to build a movement to stop the fossil fuel industry

Do other people see this yet?

It sucks when people are like "but flying is only 3% of global emissions" or "bitcoin is only 0.5%." It all adds up when you're in a climate emergency.

Out of ALL the nations of the world, 203 (all but 6) emit under 2% of global emissions.

Switch into #EmergencyMode
If global aviation were a nation it would be the #6 top emitter after China, the US, India, Russia, and Japan.
Two key facts on flying:

1. The richest 1% of humans contribute 50% of all flying emissions! It is an incredibly privileged act.

2. It indicates whether or not humanity has switched into climate emergency mode.
