🤍 how I sold my music nfts (and how it’s changing my life), a thread:

I have been writing, producing, releasing and performing music for over 10 years. Music is my favorite thing in the world and expressing myself through it is like no other feeling I’ve known.

I’ve released two EPs, a ton of singles, and several music videos, and I’ve been very lucky in terms of Web2 streams and playlist adds.

Still, the way this industry is set up in Web2, means it is nearly impossible to live off of streaming income- and even more impossible to tour, produce music videos, and market yourself in any real way (without going into major debt 👀) .

The last few years I had been feeling more and more discouraged with the state of the traditional music industry, the treatment of women especially and women of color in the industry (a thread for another time!!),

and feeling the pressure to create more ‘marketable’ music, instead of more meaningful.

About 8 months ago, I started learning about Web3 and NFTs, and became obsessed with the space. Here was an incredible, art-focused and loving community that was so welcoming and so supportive.

On December 28th, 2021, I listed my first music video and song nft, ‘Nobody Loves You’ and at midnight on New Years Eve, I listed my second project ‘Better When it Ends.’

I chose these two songs because they are two of my most personal and important works so far- one exploring my struggles with mental health, the other, my experience with abuse. I hoped each might be able to help others in some meaningful way.

After getting involved with the incredible team at @worldofwomennft, I wrote a #WoW theme song, which I listed as an NFT with original artwork and animation I had created. On April 1st, World of Women Fund purchased this work, for .25 ETH, making it my first ever NFT sale!

An incredible community member @NFTeafor2, had listened to my @worldofwomennft song, checked out my other works, and ended up purchasing ‘Better When it Ends’ on April 3rd, for 1 ETH! 🥺

Then, 2 days ago, on April 12th, another incredible human and music collector @robtsimone purchased my genesis work, ‘Nobody Loves You’, for 1 ETH! 🙏🏼

So, my music has made 2.25 ETH in under 2 weeks. ?!?!? 😭 For those of you who don’t know, that’s the equivalent of almost 3 MILLION streams on Spotify.

With these sales, we were also able to help 3 incredible organizations, nearly .3 ETH to @MalalaFund, House of Ruth (for women and children of domestic violence) and The Loveland Foundation (providing support and therapy to Black women and girls in need).

I’m getting so emotional writing this because I have never felt more supported and valued as an artist, and more grateful and fortunate to be in a position to make a difference in other people’s lives- truly the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do.

I just wanted to thank everyone in this space who has been so kind and welcoming to me, so generous with their time and knowledge, and just reminding me how important art is in this world. Thank you for re-inspiring me and re-igniting my absolute love and motivation to create.

A huge huge thank you to my collectors (so far!) @worldofwomennft, @NFTeafor2 and @robtsimone for really changing my life right now and allowing me to keep freely creating with your financial backing. I cannot thank you enough.

Of course the financial aspect of this is hugely helpful and so so appreciated, but the renewed feeling of hope that I have for the future- that I had truly lost for a while- is something I will never get over and never forget. ♥️
