1/5 Syystä tai toisesta media pelottelee suomalaisia Naton ydinaseilla. On ehkä syytä muistuttaa, että "Naton" eli Yhdysvaltain ydinaseita on sijoitettuna Saksaan, Belgiaan, Alankomaihin, Italiaan ja Turkkiin.

2/5 Kylmän sodan jälkeen liittyneissä Itä- ja Keski-Euroopan maissa ei ole koskaan ollut Naton ydinaseita. Ei olisi mitään syytä sijoittaa niitä sinne. Ei ole mitään syytä sijoittaa niitä Suomeenkaan.
3/5 Sen sijaan on erittäin hyvät syyt pitää kyseiset aseet kaukana Venäjän rajoilta. Sodan syttyessä olisi vaara, että ne jäävät venäläisten käsiin.
4/5 Suomalaisia pelotellaan myös Naton pysyvillä tukikohdilla ja vieraiden joukkojen sijoittamisella Suomeen. (Samaan aikaan ollaan varmoja, ettei Nato puolustaisi Suomea.)
5/5 Itä-Euroopan maat ovat vuosikymmeniä pyytäneet Natolta tukikohtia ja vieraita joukkoja - heikoin tuloksin. Ei kenelläkään ole intohimoja lähettää omia joukkojaan mihinkään, ellei ole aivan pakko. Se maksaa rahaa.

1/6 Returning to the question of "escalation".

It is said that a direct intervention, or even sending more powerful or modern weaponry to Ukraine, would make us a party to the war. Something we do not want to become.
2/6 On the other hand, it is also said that Putin's war against Ukraine is a war against all of us. Against our values and virtues, against the world order, against peace and humanity, and what not. Against many things to which we certainly want to be a party.
3/6 In what sense, then, are we not already a party to Putin's war? And if this a war against all of us, why is it that only Ukraine is fighting it?

Just wondering, not proposing.

As May 9 approaches and Russia suffers new humiliations on the battlefield, things will only get worse.

Collateral damage is never a factor for Russians, but now it is increasingly becoming a goal in itself.

2/7 Russia is conducting false-flag operations in its own border towns in the spirit of Gleiwitz and Mainila. This is an indication he is planning to take the mayhem in Ukraine to new levels. His hordes will destroy everything that they cannot take.

Mariupol is a model.
3/7 Putin cannot be reasoned with and he will not stop on his own accord. But his missiles and jets can be shot down, his ships can be sunk, and his corrupt and incompetent "army" can be blown to pieces.

This is the only way to stop this war.

3/6 Ukraina tarvitsee tähän asti lähetetyn materiaalin lisäksi raskaampaa aseistusta. Koska Venäjä ei menesty kontaktitaistelussa, se siirtyy enenevässä määrin pommittamaan kaupunkeja turvallisen välimatkan päästä ohjuksilla, tykistöllä ja ilmavoimilla.

1/7 While everyone is upset and outraged by the graphic images from Bucha, we should not lose sight of the big picture. Bucha is a mere detail thereof.
2/7 The big picture is Putin's invasion. In Nuremberg, political and military leaders were tried, convicted, and hanged for planning and waging wars of aggression. While there can be debate about details, there can be no debate on whether Putin is guilty of a war of aggression.
3/7 Also, civilians have been killed by the thousands in Ukrainian cities. They are buried under rubble and we cannot see them, but they are no less dead than the corpses on the streets of Bucha.

Putin must be condemned for his crimes, not for making us feel bad.

1/11 For those of us old enough, it is not difficult to see the similarities between the Russian invasion in Ukraine and the Yugoslavia wars in the early 90's.

2/11 An obvious similarity is the bestial behavior of the Serb armies and militias in Croatia and Bosnia, and the Russian hordes in Ukraine. The killing and destruction, both small and large scale, has no recognizable purpose but is driven by sheer malice.
3/11 Another similarity is the Western reaction. We have serious trouble recognizing evil when we see it. We have a strong tendency to believe all conflicts result from misunderstandings; that both sides have legitimate interests; that compromises can be found.

Ehdottomasti on. Venäjällä on valmius hyökätä naapurimaihinsa edistääkseen omia tavoitteitaan, mitä ne sitten ovatkin.

3/13 Edelliseen liittyy kiinteästi kysymys siitä, onko Venäjän toiminta ainoastaan reaktiota siihen, mitä muut tekevät, vai onko Venäjä aktiivinen toimija, joka määrittelee itse omat intressinsä ja tavoitteensa muiden tekemisistä riippumatta.
