#Ilayaraja has composed a lot of devotional songs or songs invoking God,both filmy and non-filmy. I was going through such songs of his and created a thread of a few of them. #Raaja sir has a deep spiritual self and that shows in his music. That doesn't mean he is Sanghi.
THREAD!
He almost always starts his concerts withthis song! His connection with Kollur Mookambika is well known and he composed and performed one of the all time GOATed songs for her.
He's also the most famous devotee of Sri Ramana Maharishi ! His Ramanmaalai songs are so popular too! This is one of his best! It was also used in the film Naan Kadavul.
What a blockbuster of a song this is! Only #Raaja can come up with such a song. The Rudram Chamakam portions of this song are my most favourite part of this song.
Another beautiful song for Lord Ram from the Telugu film Sri Rama Rajyam! Ilayaraja's post 2000s era is filled with lots of underrated songs. This is one of them
This is a famous Sai Baba song sung by lots of devotees. Only today I learnt that this was composed by #Ilayaraja .
Mahanadi is a pretty violent movie. But it does have a beautiful song invoking Lord Ranganathan of Srirangam, with Ilayaraja in superb form and Mahanadi Shobana and SPB in some extraordinary singing form.
Maayonae is a song on Lord Sri Krishna from an upcoming Tamil film called Maayon with famous Carnatic singer duo Ranjani-Gayathri rendering this song for #Ilayaraja
Tamils follow indigenous worship too. I agree. She says that Tamils don't worship Ram and there's no Ram temple in Tamil Nadu. That's a blatant lie. I'm from Tamil Nadu. My family deity is Lord Ram at Ramaswamy temple at Cheranmahadevi near Tirunelveli. (1/n)
It's more than 1000 years old. Recently there was discovery of inscriptions in the temple, dated to the reign of Rajendra Chola I. @UnoffLesnar is from that place too. He knows this. It's a very unique Ram temple, with unique specialities. I visit it regularly. A pic of the deity
Now I reside in Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu. There are at least 3 Ramar temples in and around this place.
Sri Kothanda Ramar temple, Chengalpattu
Sri Kothanda Ramar temple, P.V. Kalathur
Sri Chathurbhuja Ramar temple, Ponpathir koodam
