Back when we were a nation of producers and builders rather than consumers, Popular Mechanics and other DIY magazines used to provide detailed plans for creating real tools, equipment, and toys that most regular guys could build in their garage or basement workshops.
Can you imagine a magazine today telling you how to build your own drill press?
Or air compressor?
This stuff is all iterative too. People would build their own tools to build cool stuff or even more tools. We've lost something big time by becoming a nation of pure consumers.
