Career news!! So. Some exciting future news. I've decided that after 8 jobs, 6 countries, and incalculable joy, it's time for me to hang up my academic career. (1/)
Don't worry. I'm not going to #quitlit. (2/)
But I do want to say that I've had an absolute blast, but I'm really happy to say that my academic journey is ending. It's been _a long time_ and I have done _a lot_. I'm very satisfied. There's nothing I've not done as an academic that I wish I'd done. (3/)
It has been an absolute privilege and a source of so much joy of my life. But I think it's important to recognise when things are ending and let them. So it's time to let this end. (4/)
That means, of course, that I need a new job. Which is exciting. Industry! New challenges! New shapes! All of which means I need to find a new job. (5/)
So if anyone happens to hear of anything that seems fun, please let me know. I'm looking mostly in Melbourne (where I currently live) and in New York (where I've always wanted to live but would need a visa for). Other places? If it's something I want enough. (6/)
Now obviously this twitter account is ... not designed, in a structural sense, to find a new job. So yeah. Whatever. That's what we've got, that what we're using. (7/)
So. What do I do? Well I'm a statistician and data scientist who has a lot of experience in bleeding edge techniques for modelling complex data and ways to use modern computational techniques to really make the data sing. (8/)
I am deeply focussed on model checking and criticism, as well as building up good, reproducible, and deployable (and re-deployable) modelling workflows. My research has skewed Bayesian. My applied work includes everything. (9/)
I’ve had lots of practice modelling, forecasting, and inferring from data. I’ve got a good grip on modern techniques for dealing with survey data. And, you know, everything else I've been doing in the last 15 years. (10/)
Almost all of my work has been computational. I’m an expert R user. I’m decent at Python (the difference is I use R in my day job). I’m fine at SQL and C++. Oh so many technical skills I have. (11/)
I have a lot of experience leading teams, mentoring people, building projects and programs, giving expert-level feedback, constructing company-wide policies, and a variety of other types of things that I’m less likely to talk about on. (12/)
So let's talk about what I want. I want a job where I can solve problems, where I can work with a team of people to help them identify and solve problems, and where I can grow (and help other people grow). (13/)
Do I have a particular industry in mind? No. Are there things you shouldn't hire me for? Yes. For instance, if you want someone who specialises in text modelling, that is not me. Great field. I know a bunch of methods. I am not an expert. (14/)
Anyway. This thread is long and my DMs (and email) are open. My CV (2 pages + papers/etc) and information about myself is on my website. I have a LinkedIn. If you're looking for someone like me in Melbourne or New York (with a visa), let's chat (15/15) dpsimpson.github.io

That was far to much work Image
The meat was this. Tender and gods embrace. Skip the sauce. (A rich gravy would’ve worked, I found myself adjusting a lot to fix the sweetness from the tomato. It does go with the lamb but nah) marionskitchen.com/marions-ultima…
Generally speaking, I support slow cooking things on a trivet of onions partially submerged in Shaoxing wine. (The miso crust worked pretty well. Smelled like absolute heaven. Garlic and Rosemary always show up at game time. Strong recommend.)
