I think Jonathan Haidt is right - the move from making connections via social media to performing on social media has had very serious consequences and is a threat to democracy. But.
Without Twitter would I have joined @WeAreFairCop ? Would the challenge to unlawful policies and interpretation of laws been possible without the ability to mobilise thousands to crowdfund?
Over the past 11 years some of the most important experiences of my life are directly attributable to social media and the people I met through it. Some of those experiences were terrible and confirmed everything I feared about human nature and it’s essential darkness.
Others were inspiring and showed me I was right to celebrate the best of human courage. I guess, on balance, it’s been worth it.

Did you follow the tribunal proceedings of @8RosarioSanchez ? Of the Webberleys? What age do you think a child should receive testosterone? Will you be following @BluskyeAllison tribunal? Do you think Stonewall has a right to threaten employers?
Apparently its 'Disability Pride Month' in July. Who knew?
"Or, is Disability Pride Month a faltering attempt to join the ranks of other marginalized groups who may sometimes appear to get more recognition?"
Note 'appear' is italicised in the article forbes.com/sites/andrewpu…
I assume this is a rhetorical question
Or will it become just another item on corporate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion professionals’ calendars, prompting vaguely supportive tweets and boilerplate primers on disability etiquette, but little in the way of deep self-examination?
Even criticism for attempting to model celebration on the LBGTQIAA+ model
"But this connection and similarity is also a potential weakness for Disability Pride Month, because it can be viewed as copying or appropriating another movement’s traditions and practices."
Hmmm. I am not so sure about this. Sign is clearly ‘toilets’ plural. Also if it was meant to be fixed to only the disabled toilet, then once again disabled people give up their spaces for gender expression. I will write and make these points.
But still. A better response than I think I would have got a year ago. I will now wait for those people who claimed I was lying about making a complaint or lying about this being the door to a lobby to apologise. I will not, of course hold my breath.
I was not thinking clearly. If the sign really was meant for the disabled toilet, as a single cubicle there was no need to tell people that any gender expression is welcome.
Interesting and popular response to my objection to personal abuse when I make arguments others don’t like. This is not proof that I am in a cult. It’s proof that many with a cult like mindset display anger when challenged. This is true of ‘both’ and any side.
I clearly can’t be ‘in’ a cult whose members demand I get on my knees and fellate members of another cult. I have clearly been cast out of that cult! The enemy share common characteristics. They are aggressive, threatening and bullying. They permit no argument.
And regardless of their claimed ideology they seem oblivious to their own behaviour and constantly accuse others of the same behaviour they enthusiastically embrace.
Nothing quite encourages ‘acceptance’ like an assault rifle pointed in your face. So. Continued #LawFare it must be. The police seem oblivious now to their own Code of Ethics and Public Sector Equality Duty.
And interestingly I can’t now find this reply if I go to original tweet. Why not? Can they honestly assert in current climate that we are going to see this as a comment on their great career structures?
Lets be charitable. Let's assume you have simply made a serious category error. Dennis is talking about people who are using an ideology of gender identity/expression to cause harm - by ignoring the growing evidence that childhood medical transition is harmful.
Dennis is saying - and I agree with him - that at least with AIDS you had something you could identify and fight by seeking a cure. It wasn't motivated by human greed or stupidity, it had no specific intent. It just was.
Whereas humans motivated by greed or wish for power, and prepared to ignore or lie about facts are very dangerous indeed to all of us. It doesn't matter one jot what their sexual orientation or gender identity is.
