As DC sniper info comes in, when people say “he obtained his weapon legally” we should read “The Roberts Court, led by Scalia, made up a new version of the 2nd amendment to get votes for GOP billionaires…which put this gun on the street.”

#GunViolence #Scalia #ExpandTheCourt Image
Stephanie works for Murdoch-owned local Fox 5 DC, which is why I didn’t retweet it. No Murdoch media on this feed.
Scalia made up his version of the 2nd amendment, to flood our streets with guns because that divides America and allows billionaire oligarchs to profit.

A decent amount of the blame for all these kids’ deaths falls on Scalia, the Roberts Court, the Fed Soc who promoted them and the billionaire oligarchs like Koch who backed them.
@rcbregman was right when he called Koch money to Carlson “blood money”.

Mastodon is a Twitter alternative.
It's free and open source, and its founder recently started a German non-profit to further its development.

A lot of BS has been spread abt Mastodon; be careful. It can be good! But. Some more in🧵:…
The biggest issue with Mastodon is that it's decentralized, and I am with @moxie on decentralized systems: decentralization imposes overheads, slows things down, and often provides _more_ ways for the wealthy to co-opt things. /2…
To take over centralized Twitter, Musk has to raise $45B (presumably from politically-motivated oligarchs.)
That's a high bar.

Co-opting distributed systems is typically a lot cheaper. Just buy bots, trolls, servers.

The NYT is literally running the Pennsylvania Diner Safari playbook, but in France.

The part that hurts me the most is how NYT Politics treats PA diners and French cafés as equally foreign.
It’s not hard, Times Politics reporters, to spend some time in rural PA and learn!!
I have this vision of NYT reporters locked in some kind of transparent bubble in NYC/DC, gazing out over rural PA and Ohio and Michigan like Sauron surveying the lands outside his walls.

That’s not it! We are all Americans and we can understand each other w/out rubbernecking.
It’s not the NYT. It’s Reuters. Regret the error.
Substitute “National Political Journalists” for “NYT Reporters” above.…

“Now imagine what Fox and Breitbart could do if they were the only media outlets in the country, for 20 years.” -@juliaioffe

What people not in US red areas don’t understand is that Fox essentially IS the only media outlet 40% ofthe country consumes. /1
@juliaioffe Fox and the NY Post and AM talk radio, previously Limbaugh and now Hannity and Levin and Prager etc — they tell people NOT TO TRUST other media. The whole point is to create a closed info bubble.

Also Fox was founded in 1996.
Twenty-five years of Fox!
And AM talk much longer.
@juliaioffe Please, national journalists, I’m begging you to do a weekend trip with me to a red area.
We’ll go talk to people about where they get their news and whether they get info outside the rightwing bubble. It will give you stories for weeks.

Red-area liberal Twitter:do you agree?

This is why “conservative” or “capitalist” is a much better word than “neol*b*ral”, which is a word we should chuck in the garbage.

The economic agenda intertwined with McCarthyism is capitalist. Reactionary. Today’s Republicans!!

Larry Summers is a capitalist.

98% the country calls Bernie Sanders a liberal!!
Sticking “neo” on the front of that word and using it to mean a predominantly Republican oligarch agenda just harms all of us. Charles Koch is a capitalist oligarch. Not a ne*lib*ral.

The international meaning of “liberal” is more like “capitalist” — The Economist, really a Tory paper — than it is “Bernie Sanders.”
But not in the US!!!

Let’s just say capitalist, as that’s our intended meaning. Or pro-oligarch.

Happy Friday!

Until the White House starts criticizing bad decisions by Trump judges, we are done for.
Never mind fighting. Just say “This is a corrupt decision by a Trump judge packed into our judiciary to deliver Republican policy from the bench.”

This isn’t hard. Biden needs to step up.
Ex-POLITICO editor. More journalists should speak like this.

While we complain about the fear and surrender of Democratic leadership that is walking us down the plank, I have a constructive question.

What do @brianefallon and @cdkang76 have at @WeDemandJustice
that other Dem institutions do not?
We need more of them. More @ballsstrikes.
@brianefallon @cdkang76 @WeDemandJustice @ballsstrikes .@WeDemandJustice is aggressively calling for an investigation into Kavanaugh. Right now!
Why can’t other progressive orgs do things like this?
Where is NARAL, or CAP Action pushing back hard on the end of Roe?
Can we clone Fallon?
