This is one of the saddest things in the world - the Svalbard Global Seed Vault. We should be preserving genetic diversity in our food plants through joyful biodiverse cultivation, instead we have a grim and vulnerable system of corporate monocultures
Also, as someone who does a little food cultivation himself, I can tell you that homegrown food tastes far better than anything you can buy. So much of the food available to us from these monocultures in grocery stores is like a faded version of what is possible
I thought it was clear, but given some comments I'll clarify: I don't think the seed vault is bad, and I appreciate the rare foresight that led to its existence. I find it sad that it is necessary because of extractive capitalism that seeks profit instead of flourishing for all

Maskless flying is a huge story. An even bigger story should be whether we keep flying at all as irreversible Earth breakdown continues to intensify.
Did you know that the richest 1% of humans account for 50% of aviation emissions? Or that if flying were a country it would account for more emissions than every nation of the world except China, the US, India, Russia, and maybe Japan?
I'm not telling you to reduce your individual flights, although personally I think this is a good thing to do. What I AM saying is that so long as we have a growing commercial aviation industry, it is a 100% sure sign that society is not treating Earth breakdown as an emergency.
BREAKING: 19 courageous climate warriors arrested today occupying @Citi corporate headquarters in NYC. These banks like @Citi and @Chase are profiting from the destruction of your future and the entire Earth and it HAS TO STOP NOW
These two banks, @Chase and @Citi, are the two worst in the world at contributing to Earth breakdown. Here are the worst banks in order:
JPMorgan Chase
Citi
Wells Fargo
Bank of America
RBC
MUFG
Barclays
Mizuho
BNP Paribas
Scotiabank
Morgan Stanley
Please follow @XR_NYC. Here is a link to their press for this action:
I had to call AT&T and I was speaking to a woman in the Philippines. She recognized my name and said she supported the scientist rebellion and that people in the Philippines are talking about it. Despite lack of media coverage, the action is having a worldwide impact.
Our hypothesis was that people need to see scientists acting like we're in an emergency and responding emotionally to the science in order to make the connection that we are indeed in a climate emergency. We did the experiment and our hypothesis was correct. We will keep going.
The science is available for anyone to see and it is frankly terrifying. It is my job to say that it is not too late to act, but also to reveal that society is on a terrifying course. I do this out of compassion, especially for young people, in an attempt to change course
I agree scientists writing a letter to a museum is worth a story, but I'm still trying to understand why when other scientists were arrested trying to save the planet it wasn't. Day after my arrest I asked The Guardian to cover the rebellion, they declined theguardian.com/culture/2022/a…
I just really wanted everyone to know that scientists around the world are so desperate for society to treat Earth breakdown as the emergency it is that they are increasingly willing to take significant risks
I'm incredibly grateful for support from the Opinion desk (which is separate from the news desk), which agreed to publish this opinion piece on the action: theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
How do I politely tell some prominent world leaders on here that their irresponsibility and indifference over climate change are causing young people to have panic attacks and suicidal thoughts?
I've been engaging with youth climate activists for over ten years, and I am very concerned about mental health issues generally. The key to stopping this intensifying crisis is climate action from world leaders. Here's an article I wrote about this theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
I feel that I am scrupulously truthful in my messaging, both factually and emotionally. Without bold action now we are heading into a very scary future. Sugarcoating this has done tremendous damage by contributing to society's collective climate denial and inaction.
