Anti-choice zealots always ask us to think about the people who might have been born but have now been aborted. We really should deconstruct that a bit because if an unwanted baby is carried to term, there are several opportunity costs and one is people who might have been born
Anti-choice activists want us to think that the cure for cancer would have been discovered by now if not for the person who would have discovered it being aborted. I know this from a children's book my SIL used to read her kids that ends, "but his mother killed him in the womb."
So, who is more likely to have found a cure for cancer? An unwanted child born to a woman who had to interrupt her education to work minimum-wage jobs to eke out a living or a wanted child born 5 years later to a woman with a degree & a good job? Who would have more advantage?
So, I am in a lot of pain. I mean, I always have pain, but this is an extraordinarily consistent high level of pain from a wound on my leg with occasional spikes that set my hair on fire. I have oxy prescribed for times when arthritis gets pretty bad. I try not to take it, but
wondered if it might dampen this wound pain a bit. I mean some pain relievers work on inflammation, some on nerve pain, So, I wasn't sure if it would work for this surface pain from the wound. So I called but my doc is out today. Called advice nurse (she called on-call doc) and
several phone calls & emails later, I called the pharmacy & pharmacist said take it, it won't hurt & might help. Same time I get an email from my clinic saying the same thing.
I know some folks would just try it anyway but I take 25 pills each day, 26 on Mondays, plus insulin
Is it possible that the original Pizza-Porn Q-Anon conspiracy could have been inspired by one seriously off-base headline? I have no idea, but this is a headline for THREE UNRELATED STORIES in one.
The arrest is of a "resident" occupation unnamed. The Assemblyman was charged with swindling investors & writing bad checks. The pizzeria got a business permit.
I know there are commas, I know it says "top this week's stories" but news editors know headlines are critical because many people do not read past them...so they need to do better than this.
You may have noticed I am going through all the predators and creating a page with more than one piece of documentation, etc for all of them. A lot of people, when they get off probation, ask to get stuff purged. Successfully. Hopefully, this will keep some record remaining
But, while I do it, I am subscribing to a newspaper service so I can get screenshots of stories from local papers, etc. so I am trying to hurry so I don't have to keep subscribing for long so more activity than usual. I mean, 784 posts are needed at the moment. Yikes!
If anyone is interested in helping create this database, it will be tagged by state and categorized by crimes, so more useful than a twitter thread.
Early in my career, bottom of the ladder, I was assigned to go through the "archives" about a hundred unlabeled boxes of notes, flyers, and so on. I threw most of it away, but there were gems. One gem was notes from a training session by Kwame Ture in his Stokely days.
In the notes, there was this nugget of advice that has stuck with me all this time. "Push a negative and make it a positive." It works, too. We were doing a big voter registration drive that combined organizing Saturday schools with voter reg & recruited folks just out of prison
There was this whole idea of building a feeling of being part of the community/body politic reducing recidivism and creating the potential for organizing jobs through training, plus registering voters. Win-win-win. Anyway, there were "exposes" of organizations in IL, MI, & MO
On Thursday, a man identified by the initials T.C. went to @redrobinburgers in Clackamas County. He went with a group of people and the servers wants to separate the group of 8 rather than seat them together. They let white groups sit together.
The man thought the staff of @redrobinburgers were treating his group unfairly and suggested there was racism involved in their unwillingness to let them sit together. The manager was no help. He called their group a "big gang"
Well, they sit down and order. T. C. gets a salad and eats a fair amount of it before realizing the salad contained semen. He had eaten some and began vomiting in disgust. He took pictures and authorities took sample & confirm @redrobinburgers had served contaminated salad
