Vampire!WWX AU where LWJ sells his blood to the vampire blood bank to get extra money.
It's simple, almost painless, and quick. It doesn't cover all of his expenses, but its worth it.
That is, until he gets the attention of a vampire whose name is known to everyone: Yiling Laozu.
(this threadfic is going to have nfsw scenes more towards the end. Also some Identity P0rn. Let's go.)
LWJ is standing on the rooftop of Mian Mian's building when he hears his phone buzz.

He doesn't check it. He came up here to get some peace and quiet from the birthday party going on at full volume downstairs, and checking his phone is nothing near peaceful.
He wants the quiet, the silence, the cold of the night. He wants to look up at the moon and forget where he is. He wants to tune out from the rest of the world, and pretend he's the only person in it.

He can't.
Because there's a man on the rooftop with him.
LWJ can't see his face. The man is standing in a dark, unlit corner of the rooftop, while LWJ is standing under a bright light. The man has his body turned to him, but LWJ can't discern anything about his features.
What he can discern, however, is how much /noise/ the man makes.
He keeps stomping his feet to the beat of an imaginary song, and his nails must be a little long, because they tap-tap-tap on his phone as he types. Occasionaly, he raises his head in LWJ's direction, humming a melody under his breath.
LWJ wonders if he's a singer.
Shaking his head, LWJ picks up his phone. It's an email from the blood bank.
He frowns. Thats weird. He was just there today, selling his blood. He doesn't usually get feedback, or even check-ins from them. They get what they need, inject the healing serum on him, and let him go.
When he opens it, he's shocked to find it's a proposal.

"You have been selected as a special provider for a very prestigious client! The Yiling Laozu has chosen you to be a part of his regular colaborators!"

LWJ raises an eyebrow when he sees the name.
Very few vampire names are known amongst humans, but the Yiling Laozu is one of them. He's the one who originated the blood bank in the first place, and he's the one who created the healing serum they give to humans after they sell their blood.
The serum is said to be made from vampire's saliva, and it helps the body to restock blood faster after a huge draw.

LWJ keeps reading.
"As a personal colaborator, you will be asked to sell blood exclusively to your patron, at least two times a week.
Your reward is that each visit to the bank will earn you 5 times what you are currently earning.
If you accept, the bank will provide a chat link between you and your patron, so that better arrangements can be made. Your anonimity will still be preserved."
5 times what he's getting paid? LWJ's eyes widen. And two times a week, too, instead of the annoying "once every two weeks" the blood bank forces him to stick to.

He doesn't even have to think about it.
He knows the bank takes the anonimity thing seriously. They even have technology that allows them to mask the scent of a human's blood before giving it to the vampire, to keep them from chasing after them in real life. Technology that was, again, created by the Yiling Laozu.
In the end, it's too much money to refuse. LWJ accepts the deal, and sends the email back.

"Hey," a voice says by LWJ's side, and he manages not to jump only from having years of discipline as a child. "Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to scare you!"
LWJ turns to see a man around his age stepping into the lamplight. He has long hair, full red lips, and the posture of someone who has been losing sleep for the past... 10 years.
And he's beautiful.
No. Not just beautiful. He's almost impossibly handsome.

"You didn't." LWJ says.
"Good!" the man says. "I was wondering, do you have a portable charger? It's just, I'm waiting for a text, and my phone died."
The man seems a little jittery, as if he had too much sugar to eat. LWJ notices his nails really are a little long, almond style, and painted black.
LWJ does have a charger, but he hesitates in giving it to him. He doesn't know how much longer he can get away with staying here, away from the party.
But then again, this could be the perfect excuse of why he took so long to come back.

"Here," he gives the man the charger.
"You're saving my life," the man smiles, and LWJ has to rearrange what his idea of impossibly handsome was a second ago, because clearly THIS is it. "Thank you...?"

"Lan Zhan," he says. In the moonlit night, the man's smile widens, and even seems a little sharp.

"Wei Ying."
The man puts the charger in his phone as if his life depends on it, then sighs heavily and throws his weight on the railing by his side.
"That was close" he turns to LWJ with a smirk. "And what about you? Are you from around here? I've never seen you before."
LWJ looks at him. Oh. He wants to talk.
"I came here to get some peace and quiet" LWJ says pointedly.
"Ha. Good luck with that, with the party the neighbours have going on," WWX laughs. "I can feel the vibrations from here," he taps his foot on the floor.
LWJ can't hear anything.
"Do you live here?" LWJ asks.
"I'm here a lot. But no," Wei Ying turns in his direction, a little too close. "And I'm guessing you don't either, because I would've remembered you."

LWJ swallows. "That's a very outdated line."
/even though it still works/, he doesn't add.
WY lets out a proper, loud laugh. His long neck looks inviting, and the way he almost snorts is kind of endearing. LZ should really turn around and leave.

"You're right, that was terrible," WY says. "I guess I'm bad at this."

"Mn," LZ says, not without a hint of amusement.
"How about, 'you're so pretty I forgot all my pickup lines?'" WY asks.

"Like you forgot your charger?" LZ asks.

"Wow," WY hides his face behind his hands, hiding his smile. "You're mean."

"A little."

WY peeks from behind his fingers. "And what if I kinda like that?"
LZ breathes in slowly. Okay, the man is kind of mesmerizing. He feels like he's under some kind of spell, even just looking at him.

"Then I'll be nicer," LZ says.

"Lan Zhan!" WY huffs out. "You have to give me something here."

"Alright," LWJ concedes. "Try again."
WY shakes his head. "No way. I'm out of ideas. You've destroyed my spirit."

LZ can feel himself getting slightly closer. WY looks at him up and down, slowly, and doesn't do a thing to stop it.

"Tell me, Lan Zhan. What are /your/ lines for flirting with pretty men on a rooftop?"
"Is that something you do often?" LZ deflects. "Flirting with pretty men on a rooftop."

WY shrugs. "Not always. But I like flirting with pretty people."

LZ shakes his head. "I don't flirt at all."

"Yeah? Then what do you do?"

"I say what I want."

WYs lips fall softly open.
LZ takes a step closer, and the wind changes direction around him. It hits him from behind, moving his hair in WY's direction before settling down again.

Suddenly, WY's hands are grabbing his arms, /hard/, their faces inches apart.
WY's eyes are dark, dripping with something LZ doesn't recognize, and his red lips are parted as if he's one step away from giving Lan Zhan the hardest kiss of his life. LZ licks his lips, ready, and feels WY's fingers tightening around his biceps for a single, incredible second.
"Lan Zhan," Wei Ying whispers, and oh, his voice is different, too, lower and more sultry. He inhales deeply, blinking several times. "You're so-"

Wei Ying's phone buzzes on the floor where he left it, and the screen lights up with a message. He glances down at it.
As suddenly as he grabbed him, WY lets Lan Zhan go.

"I... I have to..." he trails off. LZ stands there, and watches as WY bends down to pick up his phone.

One look at the message he got makes his eyes go wide. He swallows, and looks at LZ again.
"I'm sorry," he says, taking LZ's hand. "I'm so sorry, I really have to take care of something. It's kind of life or death."

LZ doesn't know what to say, and so he nods.

"I'm really sorry," WY says again. He lets LZ's hand go and takes a step back. "Here, your charger."
LZ takes it and shoves it in the pocket of his coat.

"I have to go," WY says, even as he's making his way to the door. "I... This could've- I can't. Not right now."

He's making no sense. But before LZ can open his lips to ask him what he means, WY turns around, and leaves.
Lan Zhan didn't even have the time to ask for his phone number.

Dazed and a little hurt, LZ spends a few more minutes on the rooftop until eventually Mian Mian comes and finds him.

He tells her he's feeling weird, and doesn't come back to the party.
On his way home, he tries to put Wei Ying out of his mind. Sometimes things work out, and sometimes they don't. It's fine. LZ refuses to be upset about a man he met for an hour.
Unfortunately, WYs face keeps appearing in his mind.
That could've really been something, couldn't it?
As soon as LZ gets home, he hears the buzz of his own phone. He almost doesn't check the messages. It's late, and he wants to go to sleep and forget about tonight entirely.

In the end, curiosity always wins.

It's a notification from the blood bank app.
"Yiling Laozu has initiated contact. Do not share names, phone numbers or personal information."

YLLZ: Hey!
YLLZ: I'm so happy you took my request!
YLLZ: don't worry, I'm not really as scary as ppl make it seem
YLLZ: I hope this works out?
LWJ sighs. Right. He has this to worry about, now. Not pretty men flirting with him on rooftops, but serious, actual money that could pay off much of his debt.

LWJ chooses a nickname for himself, Hanguang Jun, since he isn't allowed to use his full name.
Before going to sleep, LZ sends Yiling Laozu a message back.

HGJ: Hello.
HGJ: I hope it works out, too.
HGJ: But no texting after 9 pm.

And then, he locks his phone and goes to bed. The vampire asked for him. So now, the vampire can wait until he wakes up.
(ok it's past midnight here so I have to go to sleep. I'll continue this tomorrow! Don't worry I have all of it outlined!!)
(also YES the hair thing was taken from twilight because that movie is unfortunately etched into my brain)

Here's the top! 💕♥️
The next morning, LZ wakes up to an alarming amount of new messages.

YLLZ: What? What kind of rule is this
YLLZ: are you going to sleep or something
YLLZ: when does the messaging ban end, my lord?
YLLZ: i'm just gonna assume since you didnt say anything that it ends at midnight
YLLZ: ..ok! it's midnight! wow that wait felt like it lasted forever
YLLZ: anyway hi! I'm Yiling Laozu, creator of the blood bank. I promise not to use my privileges to find out your identity, etc etc
YLLZ: actually I can't even if i try. my system is so good I made it me-proof
YLLZ: the patron system we're using rn is totally safe too. I also designed it
YLLZ: being a few centuries old gave me a lot of free time to get a bunch of degrees
YLLZ: are you impressed 😏
YLLZ: i'm gonna take your silence as a yes
YLLZ: you really are sleeping, aren't you?
YLLZ: well, I'm sure you have a lot of questions and I wanna answer all of them. So when you wake up, don't hesitate
YLLZ: I don't REALLY sleep 😉
LWJ blinks sleepily at the wall of text on his phone. Maybe it's because he just woke up, but seeing that he got texts from a vampire while he slept feels... surreal.
He gets up and goes through his morning routine first. Showering, stretching, eating.

Only then does he answer.
HGJ: Good morning.

YLLZ: good morning, gorgeous!
YLLZ: wait are you serious? 5 am?

HGJ: It's when the day starts.

YLLZ: as a vampire I can tell you for sure it's definitely NOT when the day starts

HGJ: I enjoy starting early.

YLLZ: right. you're all healthy! I read your file
HGJ: my file?
HGJ: I thought you said this was anonymous.

YLLZ: It is!
YLLZ: your file is just general things. Your age, height and built, gender, eating habits
YLLZ: don't worry, as far as I'm concerned you could be any fit 30 year old on the street

YLLZ: Hanguang Jun?
LWJ puts his phone down and rubs his temple. He trusts the blood bank. It was created over one hundred years ago, and the thorough research he did reassured him that there had been no accidents so far.
But should he trust what the vampire is saying?

YLLZ: I scared you, didn't I?
HGJ: No. I'm just processing.

YLLZ: Well, luckily you got paired up with me. I honestly care about safety or I wouldn't have built any of this.
YLLZ: I said you can ask me anything. Come on, I'm ready.

LWJ takes a deep breath. This is for the money.
HGJ: Alright. How old are you?

YLLZ: oh wow
YLLZ: I thought you were a gentleman

HGJ: You know my age. It is only fair.

YLLZ: I guess you're right.
YLLZ: I'm a little over 200
YLLZ: a baby, I know!
YLLZ: in vampire age I'm barely 25…
HGJ: Height, built, and gender.

YLLZ: HA. Well played, Hanguang Jun
YLLZ: Well, I was going through a growth spurt when I died so I'm taller than average
YLLZ: I was also kinda starving on the streets so I don't look that strong
YLLZ: as for gender, I'm a guy.
LWJ inhales sharply, and puts his phone down again.

Died. Because he was a human being first, before he was ever a vampire. LWJ wonders, for a second, how he can speak so easily of his death. But then he remembers YLLZ said he was over 200 years old. That pain must be long gone.
YLLZ: if I didn't know better, I'd think you're building me a dating profile...

YLLZ: Hanguang Jun??

YLLZ: Aren't you gonna ask me about my eating habits? 😇😇

LWJ rolls his eyes, and keeps texting.

HGJ: why did you choose me?
YLLZ: okay. usually vampires in our system don't get blood from the same human twice. There are a lot of you, and not actually that many of us
YLLZ: but I was lucky enough to get your blood twice
YLLZ: and now anything else kinda makes me want to starve until I die again
YLLZ: 💕
Lan Zhan nearly chokes on his tea. Did the vampire just send him a heart? What kind of vampire uses emojis, anyway?
He can't even process what just happened before YLLZ keeps talking.

YLLZ: your blood is kind of the best thing I've ever had in my mouth
YLLZ: like in centuries
YLLZ: ... you're not answering
YLLZ: sorry, is this weird? Is me talking about how I survive by feeding off of you not something I should mention? I can tone it down

HGJ: It's fine.
HGJ: Continue.
YLLZ: every blood tastes different for every vampire and for some reason you taste really REALLY good to me
YLLZ: like I’d-fight-ten-other-versions-of-myself-to-get-it good

HGJ: Is that meant as flattery?

YLLZ: yeah!
YLLZ: I'd k!ll for a taste of you, is what I'm trying to say
YLLZ: wait, not you! I didn't mean you!!
YLLZ: k!lling you wouldn't even be really smart

HGJ: You are not very reassuring

YLLZ: I'm sorry. I just don't want you to feel scared.

At this, LWJ narrows his eyes.
He isn't a vampire mega fan. He has never been one to spend hours in the forums of people who are constantly seeking them, or selling their blood to a bank just to get their attention.

But he knows /something/. And that is that vampires aren't supposed to be... compassionate.
HGJ: Why don't you want me to be scared?

YLLZ: because! I care about your well-being
YLLZ: and I don't want you thinking that this is predatory. This is a trade!

HGJ: Bullshit.

YLLZ: I'm serious! I want you to feel comfortable

HGJ: Yiling Laozu.

YLLZ: wow, full name, ok
HGJ: Don't patronize me. I'm not a child.
HGJ: What's wrong with me being scared?

YLLZ: Are you?

HGJ: I asked you first.

YLLZ: ah, hanguang jun...
YLLZ: I think I really like you
YLLZ: alright
YLLZ: want me to be honest?

HGJ: Yes.
YLLZ: I can taste a lot of things in your blood. Like the fact that you had a cold last time I had you. Or the fact that you really like eating sweets

LWJ swallows. He already imagined this.

YLLZ: but I can also taste a few other things...
YLLZ: and fear tastes fucking awful
YLLZ: so if I want the best quality of blood, I need you to be in your best shape
YLLZ: physically, and emotionally

HGJ: What other things?

YLLZ: what?

HGJ: What other things can you taste in my blood?

YLLZ: Hm...
YLLZ: Not telling :)
After that, LWJ decides he doesn't have any more questions for now. He needs to get ready for work anyway, and talking to the vampire is too distracting.

He goes to work and tries focusing on the classes he has to teach the entire day.

He does a very poor job of it.
LWJ can't stop thinking about the last day. Wei Ying on the rooftop. And Yiling Laozu. Both of them seemed like they were about to give him something, and then ended up retreating.

Perhaps he should meditate when he gets home, just to forget about them.

He certainly needs it.
-
In the next two weeks, LWJ manages to (mostly) forget about Wei Ying and (not really) learn how to deal with Yiling Laozu.

The vampire sends him messages almost the entire day, even if he starts respecting Lan Zhan's 9 to 5 sleeping schedule.
Mostly, YLLZ's texts are about things humans do in this century that he doesn't really understand. But it becomes clear very soon that he's actually better at technology then Lan Zhan is, and after that, it becomes a quest to find something modern LWJ actually likes.
YLLZ: What about hot showers? You gotta love hot showers

HGJ: I take my showers cold.

YLLZ: you know, I'm the vampire here
YLLZ: but I think you're the monster
LWJ gets used to it. It's amusing seeing what vampires think about, and YLLZ never expects a response.

LWJ has no idea if it's normal for a patron to talk this much to a human. He was under the impression that the only conversation they would be having would be about blood.
But YLLZ doesn't mention his blood that much.
The most he does is comment on his taste on the days LWJ goes to the blood bank, in his scheduled "twice a week" appointments.

YLLZ: you were so good today, Hanguang Jun...

and

YLLZ: are you always gonna taste this fucking good?
LWJ swallows, and never answers those messages.

He doesn't think YLLZ realizes how... sexual... The things he says sound. He's a vampire. Human conventions probably escape his mind.
So LWJ ignores it.
And he also ignores the little shivers that run up his spine when he reads it.
-
LWJ has to change his routine. Selling blood twice a week isn't as exhausting as he thought it would be, thanks to the healing serum they inject on him, but his exercises take a hit. He ends up having to slow down a little, and avoid exercising on the days he goes to the bank.
Luckily, because of the classes he teaches, he exercises at night, and if he feels too tired he can just go straight home and fall asleep.

He usually doesn't pay attention to other people, when he's at the gym. He minds his own business, and even avoids eye contact.
Some men try to pick him up, but LWJ has a rule against it. No picking up men in places he visits regularly.

So he keeps his head down and pretends not to hear it if anyone calls him.

Which is why it's so shocking that he turns immediately when he hears a hesitant, "Lan Zhan?"
Wei Ying is standing behind him, hair tied up, wearing a sleeveless shirt and scandalously short shorts.
As soon as LWJ turns, his face brightens up. His smile seems different in the clear lights inside the gym. Fuller. Prettier.

LWJ realizes he never forgot about him at all.
"Wei Ying," he says.

"You remember me," WY's smile gets somehow bigger. "Even though I was an ass to you that night."

LZ frowns. He's more shocked WY remembers /him/.
"You seemed like you had something important going on," he says. "I hope everything turned out okay."
"Uh, it did," WY scratches his head. "I'm sorry again."

LZ shakes his head. Now that WY is here, he realizes he isn't actually upset. They met one night, something almost happened, but it didn't work. They can move on.

"It's fine," LZ says, and turns back around to the machine.
He sets up less weight than he can usually handle, and starts doing reps. By the time he reaches half of them, he reckons WY has probably gone to do his own exercise, and their little almost-story is done.
LZ refuses feeling bitter about it.

"You know, I'm kinda new here."
WY enters his field on vision, and LZ realizes he must've been watching the entire time.

"Not exercising," WWX says. "Just new at this gym. I moved to this neighbourhood recently."

LZ thinks about not answering. But just like the first time, WY has something he can't resist.
"It's a good gym," LZ says.

"I can see that" WY leans over the opposite end of the machine he's using, smiling again.
Why does he smile /so much/? does he know the effect it has on people?

"I know I got dragged for using this line before," WY says. "But do you come here often?"
LZ doesn't stop his reps as he answers. "Mn. Nearly every night."

He doesnt know what makes him say it. Now WY definitely knows where to find him, if he wants to.
LZ hates that he doesnt think thats a bad thing at all.

"Every night!" WY says. "I should get a routine like that."
LZ meets his eyes, just to make sure he means that in the way LZ thinks he does.
There's a glint in WY's eyes, a little bit of teasing, and something earnest. LZ lets his walls down, just slightly.

"You should," LZ says, then goes to the next machine.

Wei Ying follows him.
Once again, he takes less weight than he knows he can handle. Wei Ying watches him with curious eyes as he gets everything ready, not actually doing any work at all. When LZ starts, he sees WY's eyebrows lift up from the corner of his eye.

"That looks pretty weak," WY says.
LZ doesn't say anything, focusing on his breath. In and out. Contract. Relax.

WY leans into him, tapping his nose. "Actually, it looks like a child could do that..."

LZ glares at him, and WY smiles like he knows exactly what he's doing.

"I'm just saying..."
"As opposed to what you are currently doing," LZ says. "Which is nothing at all?"

WY laughs so loud a few heads turns their way. LZ likes that single sound better than any music they can play at the gym.

"Are you challenging me, gorgeous?" WY says.
The nickname takes LZ by surprise. He can /feel/ himself blushing, the blood rushing quickly to his ears and neck. He twists his lips, trying to compensate for it, but it's too late.

WYs gaze focuses on his ear so fast LZ thinks the blushing must be even more obvious than usual.
"No," LZ says, but WY isn't listening.

His eyes travel from LZ's ear all the way down to his neck, so slow it's hard not to notice. He licks his lips, head tilting slightly, before finally looking up at LZ's mouth.

"What?" WY mutters, blinking several times. "No what?"
LZ swallows hard before answering. He knew WY was interested in him, but the way he's looking at him feels... Hungry. Hot in a way he never felt before. It makes a lot inappropriate thoughts spark inside his head.

"It wasnt a challenge" he says.

WY finally meets his eyes again.
"Oh," WY says, and then shakes his head. "But I think it was, Lan Zhan. I bet I can handle more than you."

"I don't think so," LZ says. This isn't actually supposed to be a challenge. Even if he's lifting less than usual, it's still a lot for many people.
WY lets his lips drop in fake outrage. "Do you think I'm weak? Is that what this is?"

There's a laughter behind his voice. LZ hides a smile, and goes along with it. "Yes."

"Look at me," WY steps closer, opening his arms. "Really look at me, and tell me I can't handle you."
/You/ LZ thinks. Not /it/.

He looks down at WYs body. He isn't absurdly built, but he doesn't look weak, either. He looks lean, and like his muscles are steady, reliable. He could probably even lift Lan Zhan, if he wanted to. Maybe even hold him up.

LZ looks back up. "Show me."
WY seems surprised for a second, but he takes another step in LZ's direction. LZ lets him, enjoying the feeling of having WY walking towards him.
Just when he's inches away, LZ steps back, and points at the machine.

"If you can follow my workout," LZ says. "I'll believe you."
"Ay, Lan Zhaaaan" WY pouts at him, and that alone almost kills the resolve in LZ's mind. "You're trying to make me pay for last time, aren't you?"

LZ doesn't say anything.

"Okay," WY says. "All I have to do is follow your workout for babies?" he asks. "What do I get in return?"
LZ thinks saying "me" might be a little too much. "What do you want?" he asks.

"Hmm," WY pretends to think. "How about your number?"

LZ almost wants to laugh. Here he is, ready to give up this pretense and let WY take him anywhere he wants to, and WY is asking for his number?
It's a little endearing, really. Maybe Wei Ying is old fashioned. Maybe he's one of those people who can talk a lot, but who end up being way more romantic than they seem.

It's cute. LZ is, unfortunately, very into that.

"Alright," he says. "My number."
Wei Ying smiles, and together they start going through Lan Zhan's entire workout.
They take turns on the machines, encouraging each other to take more weight, do a few more reps, hold on for a little longer.
WY is... shockingly good at it. He does everything as if it's no effort at all, even going a little too fast. LZ has to tell him to slow down several times until he uses proper form.

He is definitely a lot stronger than he looks. LZ tries not to think too hard about it.
By the time they get to the last exercise, LZ's shirt is sticking to his body from the sweat. Having Wei Ying by his side made him realize he was playing a little too safe, and he can actually take more than he thought he could.
"Okay, last one," WY pours half a bottle of water on top of his head. "What is it?"

LZ isn't listening. He's watching the water going down WY's skin, getting the top half of his shirt wet.

"Lan Zhan?" WY asks.

"Squatting," LZ says. "With weights."

WY smirks. "You first."
(can you tell I don't know any gym terminology? yeah. just act like this makes sense please 😭)
LZ forces himself to look away from the shape of WY's chest through his shirt and gets in position, holding the weight on his back.

He feels WY's eyes on him like fire. He can see him through the mirror, watching him closely. One, two, three reps, all with WY staring at him.
He thinks he feels a little lightheaded, really. Wei Ying just makes him feel so... So vulnerable. So dizzy. So-

LZ stumbles, and WY is behind him impossibly fast, holding him by the waist.

"Whoa," WY says, so close to LZ's ear that he can't hold back when his body trembles.
"You're about to faint," WY whispers. How does he even know that? "I'll help you put this back."

"I'm fine," LZ says. He tries lifting the weight, and feels like his arms won't move.

"Lan Zhan, don't be stubborn," WY pleads. "Together. Come on."
WY takes the weight from him, and puts it back in place. LZ wobbles a bit on his feet, but WY holds his waist again and helps him find his balance.

"You should've told me you were sick," WY says.

"I'm not sick."

And if LZ leans into WY's touch a little, no one can blame him.
WYs hands tighten around him. "Lan Zhan... Are- Are you okay?"

Lan Zhan feels fine. As soon as the weight was gone, he started getting better. But Wei Ying can't know that. And having his body this close to being pressed up behind him feels... good.

He leans back a little more.
WY inhales, sharp and short, and then seems to hold his breath. The dizziness in LZ's head disappears slowly, and he looks ahead to find them in the mirror reflection, almost in an embrace. Like WY is trying to hide behind his neck.

"Wei Ying," he says. And then nothing else.
WY doesn't answer. He leans forward, closer, until Lan Zhan can feel the ghost of his breath on the nape of his neck. For a moment, it feels like everything stops around him.

Then, the cold tip of Wei Ying's nose brushes just against his skin. Slides on it. Finds a place.
Where Lan Zhan's heart was beating weakly, now it races inside his chest. Wei Ying inhales again, so hard LZ can clearly hear it. His grip on LZ's waist turns bruising. Proprietary.

"After working out..." WY whispers, almost to himself. "You smell-- so good, Lan Zhan..."
LZ's throat feels dry. He doesn't move, doesn't even breathe, as he feels more than sees WY parting his lips to kiss him. He closes his eyes, tilting his head to the side-

And feels Wei Ying taking a huge step back, letting him go completely.
LZ almost stumbles again, but this time, his body is more ready to hold him up.

"I meant!" WY nearly yells, his voice sounding a lot more high-pitched. "I meant, your shampoo smells good, after the workout. Because. Because sweat releases. Uh. Particle things. Into the air."
LZ turns to face him. "Wei Ying-"

"I work in science!" WY smiles awkwardly. "So. Trust me. That's what it is."

LZ frowns. Why would Wei Ying be embarrassed about liking the way he smells? He has certainly met people with weirder kinks. This is more than okay.
"I don't mind-"
"Anyway, how do you feel?" WY asks, coming back to his normal voice. Almost. "Are you sure you're not sick? That was weird."

LZ sighs. WY really is doing everything to change the subject. It will take time until WY feels comfortable to be himself with him, won't it?
"I'm fine," LZ says. "It's just... a new diet. I'm not used to it yet."

WY's eyebrows draw together in concern. "You should call for a ride home. Come on, let's get out of here. I need-- You. You need some fresh air."

"Okay," LZ says.
They get out of the building, and WY waits at a respectable distance for LZ to call for a ride. It's better that he goes home, really. He does feel weaker than usual.
WY opens the door for him when the car comes, completely unnecessary, but Lan Zhan's protests go unheard.
LZ gets into the car with something tight in his chest. If WY is this hesitant, perhaps this really won't work. Maybe they are not meant to have anything, after all. Maybe the spark he feels between them is onesided, and WY doesn't feel it at all.

"Goodbye, then," LZ says.
"Bye, gorgeous," WY says, and it almost makes LZ want to yell at him. "Get better ok?"

LZ nods, and tells the driver to go.

Just when the car is leaving, LZ hears WY's voice behind them.
"Wait! Lan Zhan, wait!"
The car stops. WY runs in its direction.
He leans into the window and gives Lan Zhan a sideways smile that feels too charming not to be on purpose.

"How could you let me forget?" WY hands him his phone. "Your number, please. I think I earned it."

LZ can't help it. He smiles.
WY's jaw drops. "Is that-"

LZ quickly takes his phone to type his number into it.

"You smiled," WY says, dazed. "That was- Lan Zhan, can you do it again? Please?"

LZ hands him back his phone. "Goodbye, Wei Ying."

WY pouts again. It is really, so unfair of him.
"Fine. Bye. I'll check if you got home safely, ok?"

LZ nods. Then, under the impatient and not-so-subtle sighs of the driver, LZ closes the car window again.

He spends the entire ride home holding back a smile.
When LZ gets home, there are a few messages on his phone. Three from YLLZ, from a few moments ago.
And three from Wei Ying.

He checks Wei Ying's first.

Wei Ying: Hey! It's Wei Ying 💕
Wei Ying: Did you get home ok?
Wei Ying: Eat lots of food!
LZ says he's fine, and that he's going to take a shower and sleep.
Then, he checks Yiling Laozu's texts.

YLLZ: Hey! Hanguang Juuuuun
YLLZ: I actually have a special request for you, for when you come to the bank in two days
YLLZ: I'll pay extra if you accept it, of course 💕
LZ raises an eyebrow. Extra money is always something he is very interested in.

HGJ: What is it?

YLLZ: this is gonna sound weird but believe me there are a LOT of weirder requests!
YLLZ: next time you sell your blood...
YLLZ: can you be, like, tired?

HGJ: Tired? As in sleepy?
YLLZ: not sleepy...
YLLZ: wow this is so embarrassing

LZ hardly thinks YLLZ could be embarrassed about anything. But it's still endearing that he tries to appear like he is, for his benefit.

LZ shakes his head. Endearing? What is he doing, thinking about a vampire like this?
HGJ: If not sleepy, then how?

YLLZ: just getting your body tired out, I guess
YLLZ: like maybe run all the way to the bank?
YLLZ: come over after exercising a lot
YLLZ: uh.
YLLZ: sweaty
YLLZ: heart rate up
YLLZ: that kind of thing
YLLZ: is that ok?
HGJ: I can do that.

YLLZ: really? just like that? no questions? no speculations about me being a pervert?

HGJ: Those aren't speculations anymore.

YLLZ: you're mean
YLLZ: I like that

LWJ smiles for the second time that day, and immediately controls himself.
HGJ: I'm going to sleep now. You'll have your request.

YLLZ: ok!
YLLZ: be careful though! you shouldn't run a lot this first month
YLLZ: your body is still getting used to having blood taken from it so regularly
YLLZ: the serum takes care of that but it takes a while to kick in
LZ closes his eyes. That would've been good to know before it almost caused him an injury.

If it weren't for Wei Ying, standing right behind him...
LZ shakes his head. If he thinks about WY too much, he might never fall asleep.
LZ gets himself ready for bed, eats a light meal, and goes to sleep.

His dreams are filled with thoughts of blood-red hearts, and sultry whispers of "gorgeous", right into his blushing ears.
(end of this update! I'll be back with more soon! this isn't gonna be super huge but it's bigger than my usual threadfics. I hope It's going well? 😭🥺
here's the top if you would like to RT!)

(I saw some people wondering so I just wanted to make it clearer: when YLLZ and HGJ talk as vampire/human they talk through the patron system! It's like an app, I mentioned it but didn't explain it right 😶😶 so WWX didn't actually have LWJ's phone number before~~)
When LZ wakes up, he has more unread messages than he's ever had in his life. It seems like WY spent the night looking up healthy diet-exercise routines for him, because when he opens the conversation there are 20 different links to articles about it.
And then there's a long rant about how LZ should definitely eat better and if he's getting too weak to workout maybe he should change his diet altogether.

WY: you already look like you came out of a painting
WY: so you can slow down
WY: please don't almost faint on me again
LZ immediately has a smile on his face. He thinks WY is really trying to be... romantic with him. In his own way. He’s certainly not acting like he wants to fuck him once and then leave.

LZ is not usually one to date. He prefers one night stands and no strings attached.

But.
He kind of really enjoys this clumsy attempt at courting him that WY is doing. It almost makes LZ feel bad for having so many explicit thoughts about him.

That is, until he gets WY's next message.

WY: actually, scratch that. If you faint again please do it RIGHT on top of me
LZ: Is this why you wanted my number? Telling me even worse pickup lines?

WY: pickup line? I mean this 100%

LZ: Unfortunately I do not intend to faint again, on you or on any less appealing surfaces

WY: I'm flattered you think of me as an appealing surface
WY: but how come?
LZ: I will be significantly decreasing my workout for a few weeks until I get used to my new diet.
LZ: So I'll only be going to the gym around 3 times a week.

WY: that's very smart 💕
WY: and who knows
WY: maybe we'll even meet there again

LZ: Who knows indeed.
They talk for a few more minutes. Weirdly, Lan Zhan wants to stay right where he is and continue texting Wei Ying. It's a new feeling, since he hates texting and has never been particularly good at it.

The only other person he has any kind of fun texting is... Yiling Laozu.
LZ tried refusing to acknowledge that he enjoys chatting with a vampire, but it's true. YLLZ is fun, and seems carefree enough about his... condition, that even LZ has to admit vampirism doesn't seem as foreign to him anymore.
Was that his plan all along? Is LZ falling for it?
LZ tightens his jaw and puts the thought away. Why is he even thinking about YLLZ right now? He's talking to Wei Ying.

Unfortunately, thinking of the vampire reminds him that he needs to pay a visit to the blood bank today.
With a sigh, LZ tells WY he needs to go.
Just like he was asked to, LZ runs all the way there. He enters the blood bank's excessively guarded doors with his heart still racing, and gets taken straight into a separate room.

LZ sits at the comfortable chair and offers the nurse his arm.
LZ has never been afraid of getting his blood taken. If anything, its interesting to see it slowly filling the bag. The pain that comes with it is barely no pain at all. He doesnt even feel it by now.

He wonders, sometimes, what it would feel like to get it taken from his neck.
It's an old thought, but one he tries not to indulge in too much. LZ would hate to be mistaken for a vampire groupie, because that's not his motive for this.

But he does think about it.

"I'm going to inject the serum now" the nurse says, bringing him back to the present.
"Mn" LZ says, and then remembers something he meant to ask. "Does the serum have any long lasting effects?"

The nurse thinks for a second before answering. "Not that we know of. As you know, it was created only 80 years ago. So far, our oldest patients show nothing concerning."
"What about short term?"

"Short term, with how much you've been getting, is that you might not get as sick as you used to," the nurse gives him a tiny smile. "Vampire saliva heals you in more than one way. Yiling Laozu sees it as a nice perk."
The mention of his name gets LZ thinking about him all over again.

"Have you met him?" he asks.

"Yeah. We all have."

LZ swallows. "What does he look like?"

"I don't know" the nurse says. "He always wears a mask over his eyes. But he carries himself like he's very handsome."
Right. LZ looks ahead as the nurse injects the serum. Simply asking and getting an answer would've been to easy. YLLZ is careful.

But... he's still curious. He knows nothing about YLLZ except for the things he created. He wants to know more.

"How did you start working here?"
At this, the nurse grins. "YLLZ rescued me. I was an orphan. All of us were."

"Rescued?"

"Yes! He took me out of a bad situation when I was a kid. Paid for my studies. Gave me a job when I grew up."

"A vampire?" LZ asks, incredulous.

The nurse grimaces. "He's still a person."
LZ doesn't know what to say.

"Why does he do it?" he asks, eventually.

"Because he's good," the nurse says, with absolute conviction. "He would not have rescued thousands if he weren't. They say he was an orphan himself, you know. I don't doubt it."

LZ stays quiet.
The nurse finishes the job, and LZ wobbles out of the blood bank feeling uncharacteristically lightheaded.

So this Yling Laozu, this... vampire. Was not what he expected at all. Having had a hard life, he turned his afterlife into helping as many people as possible?
It doesn't match the image LZ has grown up hearing about vampires from the media and his uncle. That they are heartless, shadow creatures. Immediately recognizable in public because of how grotesquely otherworldly they look.

And if those things aren't true... what else isn't?
LZ goes to work. He does his best at teaching, because he cares about the children and they deserve his full attention. He eats, and actually feels a little bit better than he had been feeling all week.

And then he gets home, turns on his computer, and researches YLLZ's name.
He doesn't think he will find a lot of information. Vampire sightings aren't exactly common even if they do exist, and the few vampires who are known to humans are very secretive and private.

But YLLZ's name gives him a lot of results, some as old as 150 years.
"YLLZ creates Blood Bank to benefit vampires and humans alike"
"YLLZ invents scent masking tech to avoid vampire stalking"
"YLLZ refuses to share potentially life-saving serum with humans"

LZ frowns at the last one, but understands. The serum is made with vampire DNA, after all.
LZ sees an article that catches his eyes, from 20 years ago. "YLLZ working on sunscreen for vampires".

He frowns. As far as LZ knows, that never happened.
He clicks on the article, and it takes him straight to a written interview with YLLZ himself.
-“If this works, I think we’ll be able to walk freely during the day," YLLZ writes. "Not for long stretches of time, but… Maybe just a little. Enough to feel the sun on our skins. I have to say, I really miss swimming in daylight. Really, I just... I miss feeling the sun on me.”
LZ feels something in his chest tighten. He has always been thankful for vampires' inability to go out in the sun, but... He doesn't know if he would be able to sustain it himself.

Deciding he has researched enough, Lan Zhan picks up his phone.
The first thing he sees is a message from WY.
They've been talking a lot through the day, and LZ is strangely not tired of it. He sees that WY sent him a picture of a man being unnecessarily handsy while helping another one stretch. 'I can totally help you stretch' WY says.
LZ smiles. He sends him a response he hopes sounds fun, and not just bland, as his texts usually are.
Then he clicks on the bank app to see if YLLZ has said anything.

He hasn't.

LZ frowns. Ever since they started talking, YLLZ has never spent so long without saying something.
LZ's fingers hover over the keyboard, wondering if he should say something. It's pathetic to be... disappointed that a vampire didnt contact him, right? If anything, he should be glad that YLLZ isn't so fixated anymore.

Going against all of his rational thoughts, LZ texts him.
HGJ: Why did you give up on the sunscreen?

YLLZ: wow, not even a Hello first?
YLLZ: after an entire day of silence?
YLLZ: am I just a bag of money to you 😔

HGJ: Hello.
HGJ: You have also not said anything today.

YLLZ: I know. I'm sorry. It was just a very distracting day.
HGJ: So? About the sunscreen.

YLLZ: someone has been doing research on me...
YLLZ: see any good pictures?

HGJ: I thought vampires didn't show in pictures.

YLLZ: that's human nonsense!
YLLZ: we appear in pictures and in mirrors too

HGJ: Well. There's no visual record of you
YLLZ: Good.
YLLZ: well, there isn't really a reason
YLLZ: I just gave up

HGJ: It would've been groundbreaking.

YLLZ: I guess so

HGJ: And you would be able to swim again.

LZ sends the text, and immediately regrets it.
He shouldn't... care this much. He shouldn't care at all.
He's asking these things out of sheer curiosity. That's it.

YLLZ: wow
YLLZ: you really have been researching me, haven't you?
YLLZ: that's a very old interview
YLLZ: I still swim
YLLZ: just not during the day

HGJ: Was it impossible?

YLLZ: Hanguang Jun...
HGJ: I apologize for inquiring so much.
HGJ: I only thought that if something like this were possible, it would be you to do it.

YLLZ: wait a minute there, gorgeous
YLLZ: are you saying you think I'm smart?
YLLZ: is this a compliment?

LZ hesitates. He thinks YLLZ is brilliant.
HGJ: Yes.

YLLZ: wow. you've never said anything nice to me before
YLLZ: are we bonding? is this a moment?

LZ presses his lips together. YLLZ is clearly deflecting from his question. Fine. If he doesn't want to talk about it, neither does LZ.

HGJ: Goodnight.
YLLZ: waaait
YLLZ: its nice not being called arrogant or enemy of my own species for a change

HGJ: Enemy?

YLLZ: pretty much
YLLZ: you wanna know a secret, Hanguang Jun?

HGJ: What?

YLLZ: shockingly, not all vampires have good intentions.
YLLZ: some things can never be invented
HGJ: Oh.
HGJ: I understand.
HGJ: That is... very admirable

YLLZ: admirable! please slow down on the compliments or my heart is gonna burst!!

HGJ: You speak as if you have one...

YLLZ: ah, there my mean Hanguang Jun is
YLLZ: I missed him
LZ cant help but smile at his phone. He doesn't know what it is about YLLZ, but he's drawn to him day after day, even through texting.
It has to be some kind of vampire thing, right? He's heard people saying vampires are unusually attractive before. Maybe it works online as well.
He suddenly remembers Wei Ying, and how /he/ also feels magnetic, even after only seeing him two times.

Maybe Lan Zhan is just going through a very needy, and very horny phase.
YLLZ: hey...
YLLZ: since I'm so SMART and SO NICE...
YLLZ: do I get a reward?
YLLZ: like a new batch of delicious post workout blood? 👀

Ah. Of course. LZ should've known this was coming. YLLZ always comments on his blood.

HGJ: I was told I should avoid working out so much.
YLLZ: ... maybe I can wait a week or two
YLLZ: hell I'd wait a month to get something like what I got today

LZ should ignore him. He should do what he always does, and leave the app right now. But for some reason, today, he wants to know more.

HGJ: Was it what you wanted?
YLLZ: it was so beyond what I wanted
YLLZ: so so good
YLLZ: you're so good, hanguang jun
YLLZ: I know I've said this before but you're just. fucking delicious

LZ feels his neck heating when he reads the words. This is a predator, talking about their prey. He shouldn't like this.
He really shouldn't be feeling his heart racing like it is.

HGJ: So it really does taste different?

YLLZ: yeah. fuck. It tastes warmer. spicier. It makes me feel like I worked out, too. If I could sweat, I would've

LZ swallows against the dryness of his throat. This is wrong.
YLLZ: thank the heavens this system is anonymous because I would've hunted you down by now, gorgeous
YLLZ: fuck, is that too intense to say?
YLLZ: i'm sorry

LZ breathes in slowly, clutching his phone in his hands. Somehow, having YLLZ hunt him down doesn't sound so scary.
HGJ: It's not too intense
HGJ: It just sounds a lot like you're flirting with me

YLLZ: good, then
YLLZ: that means its working ;)

HGJ: You're shameless

YLLZ: not shameless
YLLZ: i just like flirting with pretty people

LZ freezes.
He's heard that before. Where has he heard it?
He tries to remember for a second, but he can't pinpoint it exactly.
Instead, he focuses on the other part of what YLLZ said.

HGJ: You don't know if I'm pretty.

YLLZ: and I'll never know
YLLZ: so does it matter?
YLLZ: no one minds getting complimented a little...
HGJ: I do.

YLLZ: liar
YLLZ: you think I don't know what I'm doing?
YLLZ: I have two hundred years of experience
YLLZ: you like it
YLLZ: and the more you like it, the better you taste

HGJ: I'll be going to sleep now.

YLLZ: okay :)
YLLZ: sweet dreams, hanguang jun
LZ turns off his phone and lies down on the bed, more turned on than he has been in...

Well. Since yesterday, when Wei Ying had his nose pressed to his neck.
He was never... He has never been a vampire lover. He knows some people spend their lives looking for them, chasing a vampire that will be willing to bite them and make them feel... whatever a vampire bite makes them feel. Lan Zhan doesn't wonder about it.

He doesn't.
But YLLZ...

LZ shifts on the bed, feeling the sheets uncomfortably hot underneath him.

YLLZ would make him see what feels so good about it. He would coax LZ into it, slowly convince him of how good it'd be. Or maybe he would be a tease about it, and not let him have it at all.
Without thinking, LZ slides his hand inside his pants and grabs himself in hand. He's already hard, and he wonders, for half a second, if that would be attractive to a vampire. If YLLZ would know, immediately, when his blood rushes down. He probably would. LZ would be so exposed.
He strokes himself slowly, thinking about what YLLZ's voice would sound like.
Maybe YLLZ would tell him about how good a bite would be. He'd press his nose into LZ's neck, just like Wei Ying did. Maybe he would even hold him, keep him in place, his hands as firm as WY's were.
LZ tries. He tries to imagine a YLLZ with no distinguishing features. He imagines YLLZ above him, sinking his teeth into his neck so hard LZ can't even scream. He imagines YLLZ taking him, drunk with pleasure, in any way he wants. Fucking him. Riding him. Both. Whatever he needs.
LZ is only his prey, something YLLZ can use to end whatever kind of hunger, whatever kind of thirst he has. In the end, YLLZ would leave him there, shaking and lightheaded from the lack of blood, twitching with the force of his-

LZ spills into his hand with a muffled moan.
At the end of his orgasm, just as he's coming down, LZ imagines YLLZ telling him how gorgeous he is. How good he tastes.

He tries imagining him with no face at all.

When the YLLZ from his imagination smiles at him, LZ realizes he has been seeing him as Wei Ying all along.
(end of update! my plan was to take this a scene further but😭 I'll be back tomorrow!

today was mostly just chat convos and idk if that's good or not but next update will have a 👀 perhaps juicy👀 IRL interaction. Also we find out why LZ is in debt!)
♥️
-

As the days go by, it gets harder for LZ to stop.

He can't help the association his mind does. The way he sees YLLZ's name and immediately imagines WY's infuriating grin aimed at him. The way he looks at WY and imagines what it would feel like to be bitten by him.
It's unconscious, at first. If he thinks about WY in the shower, his mind twists his fantasy into something else. WY, hungry and needy, begging him for a taste. WY, unable to help himself, holding him down.

After a while, LZ decides to accept it.

It's just a fantasy.
It's fine.
-

To make matters worse, LZ starts seeing WY at the gym every time he goes. This is because one day, during one of ther conversations, LZ "accidentally" tells him the days and times he intends to workout.

WY always comes, always spots him, and always looks utterly gorgeous.
WY also always brings him to his limit.

"You can do one more, Lan Zhan!" he says, and "With thighs that huge, I would've thought your squatting form would be better."

It's infuriating. And it's new. No one ever got under LZ's skin as much as he does.

Lan Zhan... likes it.
Especially because, after WY has annoyed him to death, he mellows out. He fusses over him, and tells him that he did well. He helps him hold the weights and gives him room temperature water. He even does his own workouts fast just so he can stay by LZ's side, chatting away.
"You're never gonna build any muscle like this," LZ tells him one day, after wiping his sweat on WY's towel.

This is another thing WY does. He always gives LZ his towel so he can dab his sweat. And then WY wraps the towel around his own neck, like it isn't dirty.
LZ doesn't ask.
"I don't think I can ever build more muscle than this," WY says, and then laughs as if he just told a joke.

LZ frowns. "If you want, I can recommend some supplements."

"No need. I just want to move a little," WY raises an eyebrow. "Why? Are you saying you don't like my body?"
"Shameless," LZ says, because he has to.

He does like WY's body. A lot. And he thinks he really likes Wei Ying in general. If WY let him get any closer, LZ could show him just how much he likes him.

But that's the problem, isn't it?

Wei Ying won't let him get close.
For all that WY flirts with him, especially online, he acts like a complete gentleman in person. He barely touches LZ beyond what's necessary, and keeps a careful distance from him at all times, even when LZ tries to initiate contact.

Lan Zhan hates it.
It doesn't change, even as the days go by. WY seems determined to treat him like they're courting in a period drama. If LZ went by his actions alone, he wouldn't have thought WY had any real interest in him at all.

But... Wei Ying /looks/.

And his looks say everything.
LZ isn't new to this.
He knows what it means when he flexes, and someone stares at his arms. He knows what it means when he takes his shirt off, and someone licks their lips. Or when he bends over, and finds someone behind him staring way south of his face.

WY does so much more.
WY stares at him all the time. He doesn't try to hide it. He looks at LZ's arms, his lips, his neck, his thighs. The space in between his thighs. WY even looks at his hands, stares fixedly at his wrists while LZ removes his watch. He gets behind LZ just to look at him some more.
His eyes get hazy sometimes, like he's lost in thought, and LZ thinks he knows what those thoughts are. He would be happy to indulge in them, if WY didn't stutter away or make a silly joke every time LZ so much as took a step in his direction.

So LZ waits.
He's good at waiting.
He's willing to wait, because as it turns out, WY is also extremely caring and sweet. He insists on taking LZ out every day after the gym, where he buys LZ tea, buys himself some coffee, and then proceeds to talk until his coffee has gone cold without him taking a single sip.
In those talks, LZ realizes WY is a caretaker, where he'd sacrifice himself for others without thought. WY says that he used to have 2 siblings, and he'd have done anything for them. He talks about things that happened to him that seem too sad to have happened to just one person.
It makes LZ want to open up, too. He feels good around WY, comfortable, like he hasn't felt before with anyone else.

It takes him a while, but eventually he tells WY a lot about himself.

And WY listens. Really listens.

When LZ realizes what happened, he has already fallen.
-

The first time LZ sees him out of the gym, WY is carrying double his weight in bags.

LZ is coming back from the hospital, where he spent the day waiting for his mother to get her treatment done. He then took her home, ate with her, and decided he'd walk to his own place.
(yes mama lan is alive in this fic I make the rules 😭)
(brief mentions of a non-specific illness ahead)
WY doesn't see him, because there's a long stick coming out of one of the bags he's holding, and it blocks his vision.
Still, as soon as LZ turns the corner and sees him, WY's head turns in his direction like there is a magnet pulling him.
Their gazes meet, and WY's eyes go wide. He drops everything he's holding, and it all falls on the floor with a loud clang.
He runs in LZ's direction.

"Lan Zhan??" he asks, grabbing his arms and searching his face. "Are you sick?"

LZ blinks at him, not knowing how to react.
"What happened?" WY asks, the concern evident in his voice. He touches LZ's neck, and then his forehead. "Lan Zhan, what-"

"I'm not sick," LZ manages to say. WY has never touched him like his. "Why would you think that?"

"You're not?" WY's nose wrinkles. "Are you sure?"
"I'm sure," LZ says.

"Oh. Then why do you s-" WY stops himself, lowering his hands. "It's just. You look a little. Tired? So I thought..."

"I was at the hospital all day."

"At the HOSPITAL?" WY's hands are immediately on him again, touching his arms, his hands, his shoulders.
LZ lets a tiny smile tug at the corner of his lips. He takes WY's hands and lowers them.

"With my mother," he says. "I'm fine."

"Oh," WY visibly relaxes, and then tenses slightly again. "What does she have?"

LZ looks at the mess he left on the street. "Do you need help?"
WY glances at his bags, now scattered on the floor, then shakes his head. "No, I can handle it."

"I could help," LZ says. "While I tell you what happened."

He gives WY's hands a tiny squeeze. Even this touch feels like too much, next to what they've been doing.
WY looks down at their hands, as if he's just now noticing they're connected. LZ sees him swallowing, giving his pretty bottom lip a small bite. He squeezes LZ's hands back, almost as if he's afraid of hurting him.

And then, he pulls back, and gives Lan Zhan a nervous laugh.
"It's heavy stuff, so I better take it," WY says.

LZ tries not to feel too disappointed that WY broke their touch so soon.

"If it's heavy, then I will definitely help."

LZ doesn't wait for him to answer. He walks around WY and takes a look at what he's been carrying.
The bags are filled with materials for painting, including but not limited to 4 separate units of wall paint, 5 gallons each.

LZ turns back to him. "Wei Ying."

"It's not that heavy!" he says, even though it really is that heavy. "And I live right there."
WY points at a building a block away. LZ takes 2 of them, one on each hand, then reads the label.

"These are all..." he raises an eyebrow, "midnight black."

"Yeah, right," WY scratches the back of his neck. "I'm a... I'm a goth?"

LZ stares at him. "A goth."

"Yeah?"

"Fine."
Together, they carry the paint, and LZ tells WY about his mother. He tells him she's been sick for a few years, and how exhausting the treatment is for her. He tells him they have to take her to the hospital almost every week in order for her to live comfortably.
WY listens in silence, seeming like he's deeply absorbing every word he says. Weirdly, LZ doesn't feel wrong sharing this much about his life. He doesn't tell many people about his mother, but... telling WY doesn't feel as scary, or as invasive.
"Wait, every week?" WY asks, incredulous. "That must be awful for her."

"Mn," LZ says. "There's another treatment, more effective, that would allow her to visit the hospital less. Currently, we don't have the means to pay for it."

"You and your brother?"

"Mn."
"Both of you helping, and it's still not enough."

"We can affor this one," LZ says. "That matters.

"Yeah," WY sighs. "Medicine has gotten so expensive in the last century. It's infuriating."

LZ gives him a look. He talks funny like that, sometimes. 'In the last century.'
"I mean," WY clears his throat. "There's so much evidence that medical treatment doesn't need to be this expensive, but..."

For the rest of the way, WY gets into a detailed rant about capitalism and the health system.

LZ thinks if he hadn't fallen for WY yet, he would fall now.
LZ loses track of what WY is saying, watching him instead. He looks good when he's being all enthusiastic. So many times, when LZ looks into WY's eyes, he can see the evidence of everything he's been through.
But not like this. Like this, he looks so young.

And so beautiful.
They get into the elevator, and into the hallway that leads to WY's apartment. WY seems like he's trying to cheer him up, telling jokes that aren't quite landing but that amuse LZ anyway, if only because WY is the one telling them.

They stop right in front of WY's door.
LZ puts the paint down, and WY smiles at him, devastatingly pretty. It's a little bit too much. LZ had a very tiring day, and he already feels like he's hanging by a thread.

"Thanks for helping, gorgeous," WY says. LZ is very much not in his right mind to handle this today.
"Wei Ying," he says, and there must be something in the way he says it, because suddenly WY is very close to him again, the concern is back in his eyes.

"What is it?" WY looks up at him, touching his forehead again. "You told me you weren't sick. Are you really sure?"
LZ nods. Hesitantly, he places a hand on WY's waist.

"Wei Ying" he says again. He squeezes his fingers on WY's body, just a little, and hopes he's not crossing a line.

WY's eyes change, narrow, get a little darker. "Lan Zhan," he says.

It isn't a no. It isn't. LZ steps closer.
His heart races madly in his chest, and WYs eyes go glassy. LZ watches as his lips part, revealing just the edge of his teeth.

He cups WYs jaw, slowly, slowly. WY leans his face into his hand, nuzzling at his wrist.

"Lan Zhan" he grabs LZs arm, holding it in place, and inhales.
WY's lips are so red. They look so soft, from this close. LZ feels out of his mind with how much he wants him.
He tugs WY closer, and WY comes, their bodies almost touching. WY has his eyes closed, breathing in deep.

LZ leans in, and brushes their lips together, softly.
WYs grip on his wrist tightens, too hard, but the touch of their lips is feather-light. LZ kisses him, once, slow enough to feel like the world stopped moving around them.

WY is shaking. LZ moves his thumb on his jaw, gently, trying to calm him down.

It has the opposite effect.
WY lets out a deep, howling sound, deep in the back on his throat. It sounds almost like a growl, and it makes LZ's pulse run so fast he feels dizzy.

He should step back. He feels something dangerous in his core, in the way the hairs on his body rise.

LZ leans in again.
WY crashes their lips together, grabbing LZ's waist hard enough to bruise. He pushes LZ back into one of the hallway walls, rough, punching the breath out of LZ's lungs.

Finally, finally. LZ wraps his arms around him, moving their lips together, trying to pull him closer.
WY doesn't let him, keeping a distance between their bodies that feels wrong. LZ groans right on his lips, fists tight on WY's shirt. He parts his lips, trying to lick into WY's mouth, trying to taste him. WY doesn't budge.

"Wei Ying," he says, frustrated, opening his eyes.
WY has his eyes closed, holding LZ in place. His body is tense, wound tight, and he looks like he's holding his breath.

"Wei Ying," LZ calls again. He leans in, catching WY's lip in a bite--

WY steps back from him, disentangling their bodies completely.

"I- I need time."
LZ almost growls right back at him. He /is/ giving WY time.

"Why-"

"I just need," WY blinks fast, running his hands through his hair. "I need to get used to you. I'm not used to you yet."

Used to him? LZ doesn't understand him at all. "Wei Ying..."
"I want to," WY looks back at him, and LZ almost loses his breath with the intensity of what he sees there. The desperation, the honesty. "I want it. You have no idea, Lan Zhan."

"So do I," LZ reaches toward him, but WY takes another step back.
"Can I have a little bit more time?" WY asks. "Please. I'll... I'll get better. I'll get used to it."

Everything in LZ wants to say no. 'Now', he thinks, as selfish as he has always been.

But he can do this, he thinks. He can wait for Wei Ying for a little bit longer.

"Okay."
WY's face twists when he hears the devastation in LZ's voice.

"I'm sorry," he says, taking a step back in his direction. LZ's entire body answers to him, racing again, and WY turns away. "Fuck," WY hisses.

"It's-" LZ starts, but his throat feels dry. "It's fine."
"I'll... text you, okay?" WY says, looking at his own door. "I need to get inside. Fuck, Lan Zhan. I'm sorry."

Before LZ can answer, WY carries the paint inside his apartment, and rushes inside.

LZ stays there, leaning against the wall, until he feels like he ready to go home.
-

When LZ gets home, there's one message from WY. It says, "I'm sorry. I promise to make it up to you."

The other messages are from YLLZ.

YLLZ: Hanguang Jun...
YLLZ: I need you to go to the bank more often
YLLZ: I'll pay extra
YLLZ: what do you say?
LZ closes his phone, and doesn't answer any of them.

They can wait. Right now, he needs to stop thinking, and just sleep.
(ok!!! twitter wouldn't be nice to me today so the update ends here. We're near the end now!! Only two more updates to go if everything goes according to plan. Sorry to leave you here. Wait until you see where I'll leave you tomorrow... JK JK 😊 or am I?)
LZ doesn't get that much sleep.

He tries, but he tosses and turns in his bed all night, thinking about what happened. For a second, WY seemed like he wanted to kiss the life out of him. So why is he holding back?

Something is going on with him. And LZ wants to know what.
5 am finds him already awake, going through the memory of their lips touching over and over. LZ turns off his alarm, and gets up.

He looks at YLLZ's messages again, and raises an eyebrow. Going to the bank more often would mean getting weaker.

It would also mean more money.
HGJ: Would that be safe?

For the first time during their conversations, YLLZ takes a while to answer.

YLLZ: ... I'm not sure
YLLZ: there are vampires out there who feed on the same human almost every day, even
YLLZ: but that's in person

HGJ: Does it make a difference?
YLLZ: yeah
YLLZ: the serum is a very watered down version of what the actual vampire bite does to a human
YLLZ: it had to be, because I had to take out the other elements

HGJ: What other elements?

YLLZ: well. you know. the whole "extremely powerful aphrodisiac" thing
YLLZ: can't have people leaving the blood bank if they're extremely turned on

HGJ: Perhaps blood banks would be more popular.

YLLZ: you're funny, hanguang jun
YLLZ: I needed a laugh today

LZ frowns. YLLZ has never given any indication that he was having a bad day before.
YLLZ: you know what?
YLLZ: forget what I said
YLLZ: let's keep our arrangement just as it is

HGJ: I will think about it.

YLLZ: don't, seriously
YLLZ: I don't want to risk your safety
YLLZ: I shouldn't even have suggested it. I really I wasn't thinking

HGJ: We could try.
YLLZ: we better not
YLLZ: I need to learn how to deal with my own bullshit anyway

LZ's fingers hover over the keyboard. Clearly, YLLZ is going through something. LZ can't help but feel concerned for him.
It's silly. Being concerned for a vampire.

HGJ: Is everything ok?
YLLZ: everything is just. awesome

HGJ: Liar.
HGJ: You asked me for more blood for a reason.
HGJ: Is being a rich powerful vampire very stressful for you?

YLLZ: ouch
YLLZ: you're kinda petty and I love that
YLLZ: i'm just having problems with... humans

HGJ: Humans.

YLLZ: yeah
HGJ: I didn't think humans would give a vampire any kind of trouble.

YLLZ: and they haven't! I haven't felt like this in centuries

HGJ: Like what?

YLLZ: like a baby vampire
YLLZ: out of control. on edge all the time
YLLZ: I shouldn't be telling you this
YLLZ: this is weird
HGJ: It's not weird
HGJ: What bothers you about humans?

YLLZ: I can't believe I got a collaborator and a psychologist all in one

HGJ: Fine. Don't say it.

YLLZ: ay you're so evil!!
YLLZ: well
YLLZ: like I said, there are humans who are more attractive to certain vampires
YLLZ: like your blood is to me
YLLZ: but scent plays a big part in it
YLLZ: and there's a scent thats been driving me crazy
YLLZ: I'm pretty good about ignoring it but this one is. Hard

LZ swallows. Of course YLLZ is attracted to other humans. He /does not/ feel weird about it.
HGJ: Maybe you should stay away from them.

YLLZ: maybe
YLLZ: it's just hard

HGJ: What is a vampire doing among humans, anyway?

YLLZ: ??
YLLZ: we have lives
YLLZ: do you think we only ever socialize with other vampires?

HGJ: Don't you?

YLLZ: no
YLLZ: why would you think that?
HGJ: It's what the media says.
HGJ: Vampires keep to themselves.

YLLZ: that's mostly so people don't freak out and start being suspicious of each other
YLLZ: but we're out there
YLLZ: actually there's a popular late night show host who's one of us but I'm not telling you who 🤫
LZ puts his phone down for a second.

This... This isn't what he has been hearing his entire life. This isn't what anyone that he knows believes. That a normal person, anyone at all, could be a vampire...? Just acting like a human? Wouldn't they be recognizable?
HGJ: You're lying.

YLLZ: ? why would I be lying?

HGJ: We would know.
HGJ: If there was a vampire near. We would know.

YLLZ: how would you know?

HGJ: Vampires are different.

YLLZ: how?

HGJ: Ethereal. Strangely beautiful. Unearthly.

YLLZ: you're making me blush, hanguang jun
YLLZ: but that's cute that humans still believe that
YLLZ: I know the vampire that started the rumor like, a whole thousand years ago
YLLZ: she still laughs about it

HGJ: Yiling Laozu.

YLLZ: what?
YLLZ: oh no, am I scaring you?
YLLZ: listen, don't freak out, it's ok
YLLZ: this never made a difference in your life, right?
YLLZ: and it still won't
YLLZ: there really aren't THAT many of us
YLLZ: transformations are monitored nowadays

YLLZ: Hanguang Jun??
YLLZ: Hanguang Jun, don't be worried :(

But LZ isn't reading anymore.
If vampires can walk around without no one recognizing them, how many of the people LZ knows are vampires themselves?

The thought invades his head and rearranges everything he thinks he knows.

Anyone could be a vampire. Anyone at all. He would never have a clue.
But that can't be possible, can it? There has to be a way to tell.

LZ rubs his temple and tries to think of things that would indicate that someone wasn't human.

If they never go out in the sun, that would be a hint. If they never seem to eat, too. If they-

LZ freezes.
Has... has he ever seen Wei Ying eating?

He has, right? He thinks he has. He's seen Wei Ying with a water bottle in his hand. And Wei Ying always buys coffee for himself...

And doesn't drink it.

He's never seen Wei Ying during the day, either. It's always, always at night.
But WY works during the day. He told LZ his days are extremely busy.
This has to be LZ's mind trying to do some kind of wish fulfillment.

Wei Ying... a vampire. LZ has indulged in his own fantasies too much. The thoughts of WY biting him, holding him down, have gone way too far.
LZ leans his head back and closes his eyes.
He must have seen WY eating. LZ clearly remembers watching closely as WY took a straw directly into his lips, moving it around with his tongue. Chewing on it.

But did he take a sip?

LZ doesn't know. He was too distracted to notice.
But... It would explain WY's hesitation around him.

Maybe... if WY is a vampire, he's new at it. YLLZ said so himself, "baby vampires" are more out of control. Maybe he's struggling, and LZ is just making everything that much harder for him.

Fuck. LZ has crossed so many lines.
In the end, it doesn't matter why WY wants more time. It doesn't matter if he is or isn't a vampire.

Lan Zhan likes him. And he wants Wei Ying to be comfortable enough to come close to him.

He doesn't need to know why WY is keeping a distance. He'll tell him when he's ready.
LZ takes the phone and looks at WY's last message again. The word "sorry" flashes accusatorily on the screen. But WY has nothing to be sorry for. LZ was the one who pushed him.

LZ: Please don't apologize.
LZ: It was my fault for being impatient.
LZ: But it will not happen again.
WY: lan zhan 💕
WY: are you sure?
WY: it might take me longer than I thought

LZ: It doesn't matter.
LZ: I'll wait.

LZ just wants to see him. Human or vampire, although LZ has strong suspicions. Seeing WY is enough.

It will get easier to wait.
LZ will get better about it.
-

It gets so, so much harder.

Now that LZ has felt WY's lips on him, felt the press of his hands, it's a lot harder to keep himself from wanting it. He wants to be respectful. He does. But the way WY looks at him whenever they meet just makes everything so. So hard.
It's bad, because he knows WY wants him too. It isn't just his imagination, or aimless flirting. LZ thinks it would be easier if he didn't know whether WY reciprocated his feelings or not. If he thought his desires were unrequited.

But WY wants him.

And LZ is very much on edge.
His fantasies get more intricate and more intense, every night. WY is always the star of his dreams. Sometimes, he is YLLZ himself, coming to drink from the source. Sometimes, he is another vampire, who finds out about YLLZ and rips LZ from his hands, claiming ownership.
It gets to a point where seeing WY makes LZ tense. He keeps his own distance, afraid that WY will see how desperate he is in his eyes.

The days go by, and they talk every single day. They see each other frequently, always at night.

LZ doesn't see WY eating a single time.
(ok let me get some dinner real quick and I'll write the rest of today's update. Don't leave me just yet 😭)
-

LZ is used to walking into the gym and already seeing WY there. Waving at him, smiling. It's something he looks forward to, every time he goes, and makes it feel like his entire day is worth it.

That's why it's a shock when he goes in one day and doesn't see him at all.
He looks around, but there's no hint of long, dark hair, no sounds of unrestrained laughter. He texts, but WY doesn't answer.

Finally, he asks at the reception if WY came in today. The lady on the desk smiles knowingly at him, and tells him WY is at the swimming pool.
LZ goes after him, and spots him immediately in the middle of the other swimmers.

LZ isn't fond of swimming, so he often forgets the gym offers a swimming pool option. But WY seems like a natural at it. He has better form than the others, and seems to go faster.

LZ stares.
It's a while before WY notices him. A while that LZ uses to ogle at him discreetly.
Well. Maybe not discreetly.

When WY spots him, he opens a beautiful, wet smile. "Lan Zhan!" he says, and swims in his direction.

LZ waits until he's close to say, quiet and intimate, "Hello."
"Hey gorgeous," WY leans over the edge of the pool, his toned arms crossed over one another. "Took you long enough."

"A student had questions," LZ says. He squats by the pool, and WY playfully throws a few drops of water on him.

"Let me know next time" he says. "I was worried."
"I will," LZ smiles.

WY looks beautiful even like this, wearing a swimming cap LZ has always thought of as ridiculous. It doesn't look ridiculous on him.

"So," LZ says. "How do you want to start today?"

WY hesitates, his feet paddling slowly in the water.
"Actually, do you mind if I swim for a few more laps?" WY asks. "The water is so nice today. And I haven't done this in a while."

LZ is offended that he would even hesitate to ask this.

"Of course I don't mind," LZ says.

"Really?"

"Mn. I didn't know you liked swimming."
"I LOVE it," he says. "It's why I chose this gym. But I got a little distracted by the pretty men on the way."

LZ raises an eyebrow. "Men?"

"One man," WY laughs. "You really don't mind? I'll take you for coffee afterwards."

LZ nods. Another coffee date, where WY will not eat.
"Ok. See you in a while," WY says, then dives back into the water.

LZ watches him for a few more minutes, before realizing he should probably do what he came here for.

He goes through his routine quicker than usual, having no one to stop him with endless conversations.
It feels a little strange, perhaps a little lonely, but knowing WY is right there makes it better. LZ is not eager. He doesn't expect to take all of WY's time. And they're meeting afterwards, which is always good.

LZ finishes his exercises and goes to the locker room to change.
When he's done swapping his sweaty clothes for clean ones, he hears someone walking in.

"Hey, we finished at the same time!"

LZ turns to see WY, body wet, with his hair clinging to his damp shoulders. The swimming trunks he's wearing do nothing to hide what's underneath them.
"I thought you were gonna be a while," WY leans on the wall, sliding a towel around his shoulders. "I was gonna go after you."

LZ isn't listening. He's staring at a particular drop of water, making its way down WY's body. It reaches the hem of his pants. Tight. Very tight.
But now we can go for coffee!"

LZ hasn't ever seen WY in pants this tight before. It gives him a good idea of what's waiting for him. But he shouldn't be looking. He should-

"Lan Zhan?"

LZ takes a step in his direction.

And forgets there is an entire bench in between them.
He hits his knee with full force on the bench, and only keeps himself from cursing from all the years of discipline his uncle made him go through. WY keeps him from falling the rest of the way, steadying him with damp hands on his arms.

"Fuck, are you ok?" WY asks.
LZ nods. He is. He's not that sensitive to pain. WY doesn't seem to hear him.

"Sit down," he says.

"I'm fine."

"Come on, let me look at it," WY pushes him gently. "I know a few things about medicine."

Of course he does. WY knows a few things about everything.
"I'm really fine," LZ says, and then sits. Because WY is still almost naked in front of him, and LZ is not about to refuse doing anything he says.

"Well, you aren't bleeding," WY says.

And then, WY does the worst possible thing he could ever do.

He kneels in between LZ's legs.
His entire body goes tense. WY touches his knee, pressing lightly on it a few times.

"Does it hurt anywhere?" he asks. LZ shakes his head, and grabs the edges of the bench with both hands. "What about here?"

WY squeezes a little, pressing into a particularly sensitive spot.
LZ holds his breath. WY's hands feel cold wrapped around him, but LZ is suddenly very, very warm. Maybe, if he doesn't move...

"It doesn't hurt," he says, lower than he intended. WY moves down on his leg, pressing again.

"Now?"

LZ blinks fast, trying not to focus on WY's lips.
He can't. They're right there. So red, and so close.

He knows the exact moment his heart starts racing, because he can feel his pulse in his ears. WY looks up at him, and then immediately looks back down.

"Are you. Are you sure? That it doesn't hurt."
WY's voice does nothing to calm him down. LZ can feel it happening, can feel his body reacting to him, despite trying not to.

WY swallows, his throat bobbing up and down. He leans in a little bit closer, inching his hands up his knee, grazing over his thigh.

"Lan Zhan" he says.
"Wei Ying," LZ says right back. WY squeezes him, a little too hard. LZ knows he's getting hard, and there's nothing he can do about it.

WY takes a deep breath in, blinking fast. His nails dig into LZ's skin, and his eyes travel down LZ's body, looking, noticing, seeing-
WY's eyes stop in between his legs, foggy, his mouth parting. "You're..."

LZ doesn't move. Doesn't breathe. WY licks his lips, tilting his head a little.

"Lan Zhan," he says again, eyes closing. "Lan Zhan, you're so-"

WY gets up, wobbly, letting go of him slowly.
"I have..." he sways a little in LZ's direction. "Fuck. I'm going to- Wait for you."

WY turns his back, and LZ feels his heart sinking.

"I'm gonna be waiting outside," WY says. He seems like he's shaking. "Outside. Fresh air."

He leaves, and LZ buries his head in his hands.
Fuck. Fuck. Wei Ying was just kneeling in front of him. Licking his lips. Looking at him. LZ isn't strong enough for this. All of the restraint he was taught growing up isn't enough to help him deal with how much he wants Wei Ying, in any way Wei Ying will have him.
He tries waiting, but the more time passes, the more he realizes his body is refusing to calm down. He has never spent so long without--
LZ is not... Used to this much denial. He's thought about WY kneeling in front of him for so long. How can he be expected to act indifferently?
But WY is waiting for him. He needs... He needs to deal with this.

LZ goes to the bathroom, checking if there's anyone inside. When he sees it's empty, he enters one of the stalls.

And then he takes care of himself, quickly, biting his lip so he doesn't moan Wei Ying's name.
It calms only some of the fire inside him.

His skin feels hot, and he's sure he must be blushing badly. This is too much for someone who hasn't had anything in months. LZ feels wired up, like he could go again at WY's slightest request.

He needs to think about something else.
It's hard to think about anything else, especially after he just came thinking of WY's lips.

LZ washes his hands and face, trying and failing to put thoughts of WY on his knees away.

He hopes this is enough to make WY comfortable.
He steps out of the gym, taking a deep breath in. WY is waiting for him, completely dressed again.

"Wei Y-"

The wind changes.

WY inhales, turning his head slightly in his direction.

And then WY's head snaps at him, his eyes seeming to flash red on the weak street lights.
WY is on him so fast LZ barely sees him moving. He shoves LZ back, back, into the alley by the side of the gym, even deeper. His hands hold Lan Zhan's shirt in an iron grip, guiding him, pushing him until darkness swallows them.

WY shoves him against a wall, and kisses him hard.
LZ takes one second to be surprised, one second to catch his breath, and then he kisses WY with everything he has. He wraps his arms around him, holding him close, wanting their bodies to be as close as possible.

WY's hand slides from his shirt to his neck, holding him still.
"Lan Zhan, what did you do?" WY says, moving from his lips to his chin, his jaw, his ear. "What did you do?"

LZ slides his hand inside WY's hair, struggling to breathe. "Wei-"

"You couldn't wait," WY says, and his voice sounds so different, so much deeper. "You had to-to--"
WY buries his nose in LZ's neck, inhaling deeply. His hand tightens on LZ's neck, tilting his chin up.

"Fuck, fuck, that's so hot, you smell--" WY breathes him in again. "You're the best thing I've ever had in my hands, Lan Zhan, I'm gonna have you so fucking slow, I-"
The words light up the flames in LZ's body again, until his head is thundering with the rapid flow of the blood in his veins.

WY growls, low and intimidating, an alluring sound that makes LZ want to stop moving, to let him have him, to take-
"You're always so ready for it," WY's slides his hand down his torso, squeezing the side of his body all the way down to his hips. "Your heart is so fast, even now you're-"

LZ shuts him up with a kiss, licking into WY's mouth and hoping he can show him just how ready he is.
WY pushes him back, making him hit the wall again. He looks half out of his mind, his eyes almost rolling back every time he breathes in. His body shakes, even as he holds LZ still.

But LZ doesn't want /still/. He grabs WY's waist and pulls him in, grinding their hips together.
Its a rush through his body to see that WY is just as hard as he is, harder. WY moans a little, low under his breath, and LZ does it again. He's not above doing this in an alley. He would have WY anywhere.

"You're," WY says, looking down at LZs crotch. "You're hard again, fuck-"
WY lifts one of LZs legs up and wraps it around his own waist, still looking down. LZ is so impossibly turned on, even that movement feels like stimulation. He can feel his cock pulsating inside his shorts, fuck, his shorts, because he only managed to change his shirt...

"Here."
WY slips his hand under his shorts and slides his thumb down LZ's inner thigh, pressing into the crease between the muscles. He kneads LZ's skin for a second, and then stops, digging his thumb into it, hard.

“This one,” WY says, as if to himself. “This one is my favorite.”
LZ doesn't know what he's talking about, until he feels the dull throbbing of the artery in his inner thigh, and WY's finger pressing into it.

"This is good," WY licks his neck, from the base of his shoulder to the tip of his ear. "But I wanna have you down here..."
"Do it," LZ says, low in his ear. He bites WY's neck, hard and bruising. "Do it, Wei Ying."

WY whines, shoving his head into LZ's neck. His body is trembling so hard, LZ starts trembling with him.

"Wei Ying. I want it," LZ says. "I want you."

WY licks him again, so, so slowly.
"Yes," LZ bares his neck for him, holding WY's head closer. "Please, I-"

"You don't know what you're asking for," WY says, voice sounding strained. "You don't know me."

"I do," LZ curls his fingers inside his hair. "WY, you can-"

WY's teeth graze on his neck, and LZ freezes.
All the hairs on his body rise, and something instinctive inside him screams danger. Screams, /run/. But something stronger, something more primal, tells him to stay. Tells him to give in.

WY slides his teeth along his vein, without puncturing skin, and LZ closes his eyes.
He can feel it, the sharpness there. How it would be so easy for WY to just drink from him, right here. How good it would feel.
"Wei Ying," he urges, a little bit desperate. "Come on-"

WY gasps, and jumps back so far LZ almost falls forward.

"What...?"

"Stop."
WY's eyes are wide with fear on the other side of the alley.

"I'm not strong enough for this," WY murmurs. "I thought I could... I thought I could get stronger. But you're. I'm always gonna want-"

"You can," LZ takes a step in his direction. "Wei Ying, I know-"
"I can't," WY says again, more forcefully. "If you knew.."

LZ reaches for him, but WY winces away. He drops his hand again, remembering the scene in WY's building, and how far he shouldn't have pushed.

"I cant do this," WY says. "I'm never gonna be strong enough to handle you."
"Wei Ying."

"I wish... I wish I was something else. For you," WY's voice cracks. LZ gives up on being respectful and goes after him, but WY moves too fast. "I'm sorry. You should stay away."

"I'm not going to-"

But WY turns away from him.

And runs.
LZ stands there, looking at the place where WY was just standing, without understanding how they went from being everything LZ has ever wanted them to be... to this.

But if WY thinks he is giving up, he is very, very wrong.

WY is stubborn.

But LZ is more.
And now, he knows exactly what WY's problem with wanting to hold back is.

But WY wants him. LZ even suspects that WY might be just as in love with him as he is. This is all he needs to know.

They have both waited enough.
(sorry to leave at such an angsty moment but it would've been weird to stop sooner! I know this is all very dramatic but! so are vampires!! and I'm here for the cliche 😊
I hope it was fun!!
Next update will probably be very nsfw if all goes accordingly)

Lan Zhan doesn't text him.

When Wei Ying left him in the alley, he was very obviously distressed. Texting him at a time like this would do nothing but push him away further. He needs time to come down.

And Lan Zhan needs to think.
The way ahead seems clear to him. Wei Ying wants to drink his blood. Lan Zhan wants him to have it. The conclusion should be obvious.

'I wish I was something else. For you,' he said. As if Lan Zhan could ever have a problem with whatever Wei Ying turned out to be.
But... LZ can't exactly let WY drink his blood with how he currently is, can he? Not with YLLZ taking it twice a week. He would start feeling weak again, and it might scare WY even more.

Lan Zhan... needs to choose.
LZ walks into an ice-cold shower, letting the water run over his entire body.

YLLZ is... If not his friend, then at the very least someone he enjoys the company of. He is kind, and smart, and wise, and... he gets into LZ's head so easily LZ feels like he is transparent.
YLLZ is the one who awakened things in him he never knew he felt, and one of the only people he felt comfortable with talking aside from about 3 other people in his life, before WY came along.

And LZ likes him. He really, really does.

But he likes Wei Ying more.
HGJ: Yiling Laozu.

YLLZ: hey

HGJ: Can we talk?

YLLZ: sure

LZ hesitates. YLLZ is never this monosyllabic. He feels a twinge of worry for him, and then quickly controls himself.

Their relationship was always strictly business. He should've never let himself get this attached.
He types a few things, and erases all of them. There's no good way of saying what he's about to say. So maybe he should just say it.

HGJ: I need to terminate our agreement.

YLLZ: what?

HGJ: The patronage.

YLLZ: are you serious??
YLLZ: wait
YLLZ: Hanguang Jun
YLLZ: why?
HGJ: I'm sorry.
HGJ: I have a few things I need to take care of.

YLLZ: is this about the thing I said the other day?
YLLZ: about vampires being just like humans?
YLLZ: I didn't mean to scare you

HGJ: It's not about that.

YLLZ: did I do anything wrong?
YLLZ: was I too creepy?
YLLZ: I can stop with the innuendos
YLLZ: I've been told I can be a bit too much sometimes

LZ closes his eyes. Fuck. He knew this would be difficult, but it's way harder than he initially thought.

HGJ: You were never too much
HGJ: I enjoy talking to you.

YLLZ: then why?
LZ thinks about saying they can still talk if YLLZ wants to. He wants to say it. It feels awful to leave things like this.
But why would YLLZ even speak to him, if not for his blood?
Deep down LZ knows YLLZ is only putting up this much resistance because he needs to feed.

Focus.
HGJ: things have changed
HGJ: I need the energy for other aspects of my life

YLLZ: fuck
YLLZ: fuck, when it all goes to shit, it all goes to shit all at once

HGJ: What?

YLLZ: wait
YLLZ: I didn't mean that
YLLZ: that was unfair and it has nothing to do with you
YLLZ: I'm sorry.
LZ wants to ask. He cares. He cares about this immortal being more than he ever thought he would.

But if he wants to end this, he can't.

HGJ: It's fine
HGJ: I'm the one who should apologize.
HGJ: I know this is sudden.
HGJ: I'm sorry.

YLLZ doesn't answer for a long time.
LZ thinks of every possibility in that time. But this one is the only one that will work.
He has some savings from the extra money he made with YLLZ. He can go back to selling to the blood bank like he used to, once every 2 weeks. It would still be enough for his mother.
Things will be just as they were.
Except, hopefully, with Wei Ying by his side.

The texts come two hours later, which is more than YLLZ had ever taken to answer anything.

YLLZ: listen, it's ok
YLLZ: I'm sorry for reacting in a weird way
YLLZ: you should do what's best for you
LZ feels a twinge of pain in his chest. So this is it, then.

HGJ: Will you be okay?

YLLZ: yeah!
YLLZ: don't worry, hanguang jun
YLLZ: I'm always ok, one way or another.

HGJ: Considering the things you've told me about your life, that isn't very reassuring.

YLLZ: you're cute
YLLZ: thanks for listening to me talk
YLLZ: in addition to being the best meal out there

HGJ: Back to creepy?

YLLZ: you like it!
YLLZ: hey
YLLZ: you were perfect
YLLZ: you know that, right?

LZ takes a deep breath in, and ignores how much doing this hurts.

HGJ: So were you.

Lan Zhan’s mood is sour the entire rest of the day. He sends WY messages that go unread, and can’t manage to concentrate on anything else he needs to do.
At school, he plays a video, because he knows he won’t be able to be fully present. Luckily, the children don’t mind.
Not talking to YLLZ feels... wrong. Like a glaring absense in his day. And not talking to Wei Ying feels like torture. LZ sends him a few messages, afraid of sending too many and seeming forceful or suffocating.

But after a few days go by like this, LZ gives up on the pretense.
LZ: Wei Ying, please answer me
LZ: I told you I already know, and I don't mind
LZ: I like it
LZ: I would've liked anything you were
LZ: Wei Ying...
LZ: Talk to me
LZ: What we have is good, is it not?
LZ: You don’t have to hide from me.

The answer never comes.
LZ tries to fill his days with the things he likes. Music. Reading. But it all feels so empty without YLLZ and WY battling for his attention.
He wishes he could at least still talk to YLLZ, but the connection in the bank app was broken.

So he lets go, and focuses on WY instead.
LZ: Wei Ying, this is unnecessary
LZ: I know you're a vampire
LZ: I don't know if saying this here is okay
LZ: How much of a secret is it?
LZ: I'll delete the message after you've read it
LZ: Wei Ying?

LZ waits for a few hours, but none of the messages are going through anymore.
He tries calling, but the phone rings and rings without answer. Eventually he starts getting the message that the number doesn't exist.

LZ buries his head in his hand and takes a deep breath.

Wei Ying has shut him off completely.

Maybe... Maybe he should give up.
Still, LZ keeps going to the gym. WY is never there. Not the regular machines, and not the pool either.
He goes by WY's building, always at night, thinking he might see WY walking in or out. He stands on the street, trying to find which window is WYs, but the lights are never on.
It's lonely. Lonelier than he ever felt, even if his life has gone back to exactly what it was before. It never felt this aimless, or like there was something missing.
His family notices something's wrong, but his brother and uncle avoid talking about it.

Not his mother, though.
"You're sad," his mother says one night, just as she's finishing her treatment. The hospital nurse helps her get up, and LZ gives her an arm for support.

"I'm the same, mama."

"Is it a boy problem?"

LZ swallows. She says it in the same way she used to when he was 15 years old.
They get inside the elevator with her staring at him, smiling knowingly. LZ stays quiet.

"That's a yes, then," she says, wobbling a little when the elevator starts moving. LZ holds her steady. "Tell me."

It's not that LZ doesn't want to. He just doesn't know where to start.
"He won't speak to me," LZ says.

"Why?"

"He thinks..." LZ pauses. "I'm not sure. I think he believes me to be... more judgemental than I am."

"You can give that impression, sometimes."

LZ sighs. He knows that. But WY saw him for who he really was. He should've known better.
"Have you tried going after him?" she asks.

LZ nods. "Mn. I called. Texted. I went to the places where we used to meet."

"Do you know where he lives?"

"I think so," LZ says. "I'm not sure if he's still there."

"You know what to do, then," she winks. "Go knock on his door."
LZ gives her a sideways look. "I'm not a stalker, mama."

"Well, I am," she says with another smile. "Do you want me to go talk to him?"

"I don't think he's the type to be intimidated by mothers."

"Everyone is intimidated by mothers."

The elevator dings, and they get off.
As soon as they walk into the hall, a nurse in the reception calls him. LZ approaches her.

"Hello, Mr. Lan. We just need to reschedule your mother's next appointment before you leave."

LZ frowns. "Her appointments are always on wednesdays."

The nurse nods.
"Yes, but the new treatment is with a specific doctor, and she's only here on mondays and tuesdays."

LZ and his mother share a glance. "What new treatment?"

"The..." the nurse checks the file in her hand. "bimonthly treatment that we started recently. The newest one we have."
LZ shakes his head. That treatment is, of course, something he would love to be able to afford. Only putting his mother through this once every two months sounds like a dream. But he can't, least of all now.

"We currently don't have the means to-"

"But it's already paid for."
His mother gasps. LZ remains very still.

"I'm sure there's a mistake," he says. "Someone else's payment got confused with ours."

"There's no mistake," the nurse says. "We take those things seriously. Her treatment was entirely taken care of."
"A-Zhan," his mother whispers next to him. She's shaking a little. LZ thinks he might be shaking, too.

"Who paid for it?"he asks.

The tone in his voice must be intimidating, because the nurse fumbles to show him the papers in her hand.

"There's not really a name attached."
"What did he look like?"

"Young? Maybe around 25. Dark hair. As tall as you, but maybe a little skinnier?"

LZ clutches his mother's arm. It's him. It has to be.
He had no idea WY had that much money. Are all vampires rich, somehow?

"A-Zhan, breathe," his mother says.
He breathes, slowly, and composes himself.

"So can we reschedule?" the nurse asks.

They reschedule. LZ barely pays attention. It's WY. Of course it was WY. He's the only person who found out recently. His and his brother's friends knew, but they didn't have money like this.
He just... walked in here, and paid for his mother's treatment? Anonymously, thinking LZ wouldn't find out who it was? What is this, a consolation prize for ghosting him for two weeks?

LZ won't have it. WY can't just do whatever he wants.
He needs to find a way to talk to him.
Clearly, texting and calling isn't working. LZ didn't want to, but he thinks he's gonna have to do exactly what his mother said. And if that doesn't work... He doesn't know. Maybe he'll ask around at the blood bank.

But first, he needs to take his mother home.
LZ goes home and showers first. He knows WY could smell the hospital in him last time - it was so clear, now that he thinks about it. WY knew he smelled sick from far away.
WY could smell a lot of things on him. It was terrifying and exhilarating at the same time.
He goes to WY's building, and for the first time in those two weeks, doesn't hesitate. He enters, going past the doorman like he lives there.
The doorman doesn't say anything. LZ can't wait for the elevator - he feels too wired up, angry, excited - so he takes the stairs.
WY lives on the 8th floor, which means LZ is sweating slightly by the time he gets there. He doesn't think it matters. In fact, he thinks WY likes it, if the way he pressed his nose into his neck that one time was any indication.

Everything was just so obvious, now.
"Wei Ying," he knocks on the door, politely at first. When no answer comes, he starts knocking louder. "It's me."

LZ isn't sure if there are any other people living in this floor. He doesn't care. The fact that it's past 8pm doesn't bother him either. He bangs on the door.
-
"Wei Ying, I know you're in there," he says. "The doorman told me."

It's a blatant lie. LZ's only exchange with the man was a brief "goodnight." But WY doesn't have to know that.
If WY is going to pay for his mother's treatment and then vanish, LZ can afford to lie a little.
LZ waits, waits, and waits. He has no idea how much time passes without an answer.

"Wei Ying" he leans his head on the door. "Please talk to me. I already know everything. I know-"

He hesitates. He doesn't want to say it out here. What if someone's listening?
"Open the door," he says, knocking again. "Wei Ying! You can't-"

LZ trails off, breathing in deep. If WY is really in there, and he's... still not opening...?

"You can't do this," LZ says, lowering his voice again. "You can't just leave and do whatever you please."
"I know it was you. You can't pay for my mother's treatment and then not talk to me," LZ says, more forcefully. "This is a pity prize. Either let me in or take your money back. I won't accept this."

No answer. LZ puts both of his hands on the door.

"Wei Ying... Please."
Maybe WY is not here. LZ has given up hope already. If WY doesn't want to talk to him, what is LZ even doing here, humiliating himself?

But it's /Wei Ying/.

"You can't-" LZ sighs, his voice turning to a whisper. "You can't make me fall for you, and then-"

The door clicks open.
"...Wei Ying?" he calls.

There's no answer. The room is completely dark, save by a window on the opposite side, slightly ajar. The heavy curtains keep most of the moonlight from coming in, but a few strands of light still manage to touch the wooden floors inside.
LZ closes the door behind him, and the little light coming from the corridor is gone. Engulfed in darkness, he touches the wall beside the door, trying to find a switch.

There is none.

He stands there, in complete silence, waiting for his eyes to get used to the dark.
He tries to listen, too, for any sound WY might be making, but the only thing he can hear is his own loud, heavy breathing.

There's a movement near the window. LZ turns to it fast, realizing it was only a flutter of the curtains.

But LZ knows he isn't alone.

"Wei Ying?"
As the objects in the room start taking shape, LZ feels his own pulse picking up. There's a feeling in his stomach, almost like butterflies, and almost like fear.

He can see a couch, now. And a TV. it strikes him as odd, for a second, but why shouldn't vampires watch tv?
He can also see the silhouette of a big, comfortable chair, in the corner of the room. Behind it, a tall shape, like a rolled up mattress, or a lamp, or--

"Wei Ying," LZ takes a step in his direction. The silhouette moves further back into the wall.

"Don't get closer."
The sense of danger immediately makes LZ's blood freeze in his veins. Not for him. But for how tired WY's voice sounds.

LZ stops moving. "What's going on?"

"Nothing," WY lets out a laugh so fake it almost hurts to hear. "I have a migraine."

"Liar," LZ says, and steps closer.
"Don't, seriously!" WY pushes the chair in front of him like a shield. "You should leave."

"You let me in to tell me I should leave?" LZ asks. The things in the room are starting to make more sense now. There's a dark, square bag thrown on the couch, filled with something black.
There are two others, about a third empty, thrown on the table. LZ doesn't know what they are, at first. And then he starts connecting everything.

The entire room smells of wall paint, yes, that is prevalent. But under that, if LZ concentrates... Is the strong smell of iron.
"Ugh, Lan Zhan," WY lowers his head on the back of the chair. "Did you /have/ to take the stairs? Why are you always making everything so much harder-"

"Have you been feeding?" he asks.

WY's head snaps back up. "What?" he asks. "Oh. Um. Yeah! Definitely. Lots of... Protein?"
LZ has no patience for this game anymore.

"I mean blood," he says. "Have you eaten?"

LZ's eyes are used enough to the dark now to see WY's eyes going wide.

"I don't- I'm not-" he stutters. "How. Did you know?"

LZ's tone softens. "Do you think you do a good job of hiding it?"
"I..." WY leans back on the wall and runs a hand through his hair. "In my defense, I'm way better about it when you're not near. You just," he sighs, closing his eyes for a second. "You make me feral. Insane. And you're making me insane right now, so you have... You have to go."
LZ knew it. Still, the confirmation makes something burn deep inside him, some strong sense of satisfaction to be so intensely desired by someone he also desires so much.

WY's eyes snap open. "Don't do that. I hate it when you do that."

LZ steps in his direction. "Do what?"
"When you... When you start. Wanting," WY says. He takes a deep breath in, then stops breathing altogether. "I can feel your body calling to me, and it's so. So fucking hard to not just-"

LZ gets to the chair, and WY stops talking, absentmindedly licking his lips.
"You should go," WY says, a little breathless, and way more intimidating. "I've been... trying to eat. But the last two weeks were hard. I hate every blood that comes to my house."

"I can help you," LZ says. He circles the chair, but WY circles it too, in the opposite direction.
"Lan Zhan, don't say that," WY pleads. "You don't know what it's like."

"I know you," LZ says. "And I know what I want."

WY makes a low sound in his throat. He looks pained, and a little weak. His nails dig into the back of the chair, strong fingers holding it tight.
"You have to stop doing that to me," he says, voice strained. LZ takes another step around the chair, and this time, WY doesn't move. "You only think you want this because you like me, Lan Zhan."

"No," LZ says. "I want you. And I want this. I've been... curious. For a while."
WY doesn't move, simply staring at him. LZ reaches him, finally, finally, and cups his face in his hands. He can see WY is holding his breath, trying not to smell him, all the muscles in his body tense.

"I want this with you," LZ says. "I want you to bite me, Wei Ying."
"I'm gonna get obsessed," WY murmurs, like a warning. "I'm gonna get jealous and territorial. I'm gonna growl at people who flirt with you and kiII any other vampire that comes near."

LZ doesn't know how to explain how much that turns him on without sounding crazy.

"I want it."
WY grabs LZ by the waist and turns them around, squeezing him against the wall.

"You're gonna get addicted to it," he says, eyes focused somewhere on LZ's neck. "I don't want you to feel trapped to me because of a bite."

"Wei Ying," LZ pulls him closer. "I'm already addicted."
WY lets out a tempting groan, pressing their bodies together. He nuzzles against LZ's neck and takes a deep breath in.

"Lan Zhan, you're gonna taste so good," WY says, grinding on him a little. "Okay. Fuck. How can I refuse a meal when it so conveniently walked into my house?"
LZ throws his head back, holding WY as tight as he can. WY licks his neck, slow and teasing.

"Do you always play with your food before eating?" he asks. WY laughs, low and raspy, and then gives him a tiny bite on his ear.

"Only when it offers itself to me like it's desperate."
LZ feels his body heating with each word WY says, and every touch feels too intense to handle.
WY licks him again, scraping his teeth on his skin. Then, inexplicably, he draws back, touching their foreheads.

"I'm gonna lose it a little bit," WY warns. "So you need to be sure."
"I'm sure," LZ says, impatient. "Come on-"

"Lan Zhan," WY shakes his head. "You really. You're just gonna offer yourself to me? I just told you I might lose it. I might kill you."

"You won't."

WY lets out a tiny laugh. "You're just gonna trust me? Just like that?"
"Yes," LZ says.

"You shouldn't."

"Why not?" LZ asks. "Wei Ying, just-"

"I'm a vampire," WY says. "You know, shockingly, not all vampires have good intentions."

LZ's entire body freezes in WY's hands.

What?

"What-" he tries, breahtless. "What did you just say?"
LZ has heard that before. In those exact words.

WY leans down to kiss him, licking his skin like he's getting it ready to eat.

"Not all vampires have good intentions," he mumbles again, between kisses.

"Is that... a common saying?"

WY shakes his head, without looking at him.
LZ can't believe it. He can't believe it.

The red double hearts. The way he has of calling LZ gorgeous, of getting under his skin, of knowing exactly what to say.

Were they the same, all along?

Has WY not been eating... Because he was used to HGJ's blood?

To his blood?
WY bites weakly on his chin, his jaw, his neck, without drawing blood. LZ can feel him starting to get rougher, his bites getting stronger and stronger. LZ swallows dry, right as WY's jaw drops open.

"Yiling Laozu," LZ says, right on WY's ears.

WY goes completely still.
(ok listen change of PLANS, it's almost 11 pm here and I didn't even eat dinner yet so I have to go pls don't kill me😭😭😭 I HAVE TO DELAY THE BEFUCKENING Of LAN WANGJI)
Everything stops. WY doesn't move, and neither does he. LZ doesn't even feel like his heart is beating.

WY's hands are tight on his waist, frozen. LZ swallows, waiting for his response.

If he's wrong, he just said another vampire's name in WYs ear.

He doesn't think he's wrong.
The increase of pressure on his skin is so slow, so gradual, LZ doesn't feel it at first. WY's fingers dig into him, pinning him to the wall.

And then, one of WY's hands is on his jaw, turning him in his direction, fast as lightning. WY meets his eyes.

"Who are you?"
He says it low, intimidating, and LZ can understand why people would be afraid of vampires, if they were anyone else. Not him, though. He likes WY just like this.

WY's eyes flash red, staring him down. This is Yiling Laozu, LZ thinks. They're the same. He's right here.
He forgets to answer, lost in the feeling of putting two realities together. WY, who died from starvation. WY, who spent his life helping other orphans. WY, who is so kind, so giving, so good.

Slowly, LZ's hands come up to cup WY's face. It's him. He didn't lose him.
LZ didn't realize how much the decision of letting YLLZ go was weighing on him, until now. He wants to cry with relief. He didn't lose him, he thinks again, brushing his thumb on WY's cheek.

"Lose me?" WY's eyes soften a little. "Lan Zhan, what are you- How did you know?"
LZ didn't realize he was saying it out loud. He brings WY closer, and something in his face must speak of safety, because WY puts his guard down again. He comes closer, and lets LZ tilt his chin in his direction.

"It's all you," LZ says. "Who else would it be?"

LZ kisses him.
WY kisses him back, confused. He tries pulling away, tries asking him what's wrong, but LZ can only chase his lips back. He wants to say it. But finding the words feels impossible when he feels this happy. He needs WY to stay right here, this close. He needs WY to understand-
WY loses all of his barriers, feeling just how mellow LZ has gone. He gives in to the kiss, tongue sliding past LZ's lips, and LZ gets a very bad idea.

But it might just work.

Hoping it's enough, LZ bites down on his own tongue, and lets WY lick the blood from inside his mouth.
WY pulls back, eyes hazy, his mouth smeared with red. He licks the liquid from his lips, tasting it slowly, rolling it with his tongue.

"Han-" he tries, a little slurred, like he can barely focus. "Hanguang Jun."

"It's me," LZ says, pulling him back in. "Wei Ying. It's me."
WY stops. Inhales.

And then he moves.

LZ feels the ground disappearing from beneath his feet, his center of gravity shifting. WY throws him on the large couch in the middle of the room and climbs heavily on top of him.

"I missed you," WY whispers on his neck.

And bites him.
WY's teeth pierce his skin easily, tearing at the flesh with no resistance at all. The beginning hurts, but it's a good kind of hurt, like prodding at an old bruise.

But something starts flowing into LZ's body, just as his blood starts flowing out.

LZ screams.
He can't help it, anymore than he can help the way his entire body curves into WY's lips, back arching up towards his body. The scream turns into a moan, loud and stretched out. LZ would feel embarrassed by it, if the feeling wasn't completely intoxicating.
The bite makes him feel like he's on fire, every sensation in his body heightened. The rustling of his clothes on his skin, the hard press of WYs fingers on his neck and hip. It's overwhelming, how good the blood flowing out of him feels. Like nothing else can ever compare to it.
The place where WY drinks from pulses, slowly, with the rhythm of his heart. His cock pulses too, fully hard in between his legs. LZ feels too hot, too sweaty, to keep going like this. He needs to take his clothes off. He needs to feel WY on his skin.

"Wei Ying," he calls.
WY doesn’t answer, lost in drinking from him. He moves his hand inside LZ’s hair and turns his head, forcing him to present his neck.

LZ moans again, twitching, and WY growls deep in his chest, tightening his hold on him.

LZ can barely move. It's scary how much he likes it.
Wei Ying," LZ whispers, curling his arms around him to keep him close.
He grinds his hips up, trying to find friction, but WY is still holding him like he's going to escape.

"I'm here. I won't leave," LZ says. "I just need... my clothes-"

He moves again. WY bites him harder.
"Ah-" LZ closes his eyes, feeling his entire body getting warmer. WY moans on his neck, and pulls back from the bite to lick slowly at his skin.

"I'm sorry, fuck, I'm sorry, you just taste so good," WY says, holding himself up. "You're so much better like this, I can't stop-"
"Don’t," LZ says. “Just…”
WY isn’t really listening. His gaze is foggy, unfocused, going from LZ’s lips to his neck like he can't decide where he wants to put his mouth next.

But LZ can decide for him.

"You said," LZ tries, a little out of breath. "You had a favorite place."
WY's eyes snap down to his thighs. He swallows, fingers curling into fists. "Yeah."

LZ licks his lips. "Do you want-"

WY hooks his thumbs under the hem of LZ's pants and tears them away, yanking them off his body. He takes his underwear with it, ripping the fabric in half.
LZ watches, dazed, as WY sits up on the couch and pulls him closer by his legs. WY has that same look in his eyes, the hungry one, that LZ saw so many times in the gym. The look that gave him so many restless nights.

Unwilling to wait, LZ sits up, and takes off his own shirt.
WY leans down. LZ parts his lips, ready for a kiss, but WY only bites his mouth, drawing a little bit of blood from it. Then, he keeps going, biting around LZs nipple, teeth tearing his skin. WY makes his way down, just like that, tasting the blood from each corner of LZs body.
He carefully licks each bite after, like he's tending to a wound.

When he gets to LZ's cock, he looks up. LZ's heart thunders in his chest, but he is way beyond caring what WY does to him right now.

WY smirks, and merely licks him.

"I said I was gonna eat you slowly," he says.
LZ groans in frustration. He reaches for him, but WY slaps his hands away. He tries getting up, but WY pushes him back down.

"I can feel how ready you are," WY says, burying his head on his crotch and inhaling deeply. "How long have you been thinking about this?

LZ stays quiet.
"Tell me," WY grabs him in hand, stroking lightly. "Did you think about me?"

LZ looks down. WY lays his head on his thigh, looking up at him with a smile. His fangs are so clear now, even in the weak moonlight. LZ whimpers.

"Didn't you say you were gonna lose it?" LZ asks.
"I just got a little from your neck," WY kisses his thigh, dragging his teeth over it, his strokes getting faster. "Now tell me. Did you think about me? Like this?"

LZ curls his hands into fists, biting back a moan. Of course he thought about WY. He has been for months.
"Or..." WY teases his hand down, down, circling around him. "Did you think about Yiling Laozu?" he says. LZ's eyes snap open, looking at him. "Did you think about what I said to you, in our talks? Hm? Han. Guang. Jun."

"Wei Ying," he says, pushing his hips down. WY only laughs.
"Who did you imagine?" WY slides a finger inside him, punching a moan out of LZ's lips. "What face did Yiling Laozu have?"

LZ throws his head back, arching his body into WY's hand.

"Yours," LZ mutters, and feels himself flushing despite everything else. "It. Was you. Wei Ying."
WY's finger stops, only for a second. His other hand squeezes LZ's thigh, harder than he's ever held him before.

"I wanted it to be you," LZ breathes out. "I wanted you to drink-"

"Fuck," WY says under his breath, and buries his teeth on the inside of LZ's thigh.
LZ's orgasm hits him like a crashing wave, amplified by how dizzying, how blissful, WY's bite feels. The blood flows out as he spills all over himself, one hand grabbing blindly at WY's hair, behind his neck.

He falls on the couch, trying to catch his breath, and looks down.
WY is looking up at him, eyes red in the moonlight. He looks enthralled, hypnotized, following each movement LZ makes, eyes dipping briefly to the mess of spent on his belly.

LZ's body twitches, but WY holds him down and still, sucking him slowly through hollowed cheeks.
LZ tries to speak, but nothing comes out. He feels lightheaded, a little weak. His hand drops from WY's hair, falling on the couch, and WY slowly disengages from his thigh.

"Wei Ying," LZ says. WY walks out of the living room and comes back, half a second later, impossibly fast.
When WY climbs on top of him again, LZ understands what he meant by "lose it". He doesn't look like himself. He barely looks like he's thinking.

WY crashes their lips together in a frenzied kiss, and LZ realizes with a start that he's naked.

/Finally/, LZ thinks.

And, /more/.
The weight of WY's body on his feels too good to let go. LZ slips a hand inside his hair, just to keep him there, and wraps his legs around him.

"More," he says, demands, low on WY's ear. WY whines a little, rubbing himself on him. "Wei Ying. More."
WY is shivering above him, clearly holding himself back. He slips his hand around them, under LZ's body, and slides two fingers inside.

"Good," WY says, slurred, like he's drunk. "Lan Zhan. So good."

"Wei Ying," LZ moves his body towards him, trying to get him deeper. "Please-"
WY breathes in slowly, his entire body shaking with how tense he is.

"S-sure?" he asks. LZ nods fast. "I'm not. I can't be. Gentle."

"Don't be," LZ grabs him, almost angry. "Stop holding ba-"

WY balances himself in between his legs, and enters LZ's body all at once.
LZ bites down on WY's shoulder, as hard as he can, instead of letting out the loud moan his body wants to release. WY kisses his neck, his forehead, his cheeks, his arms braced on either sides of LZ's waist.

And then, without waiting for LZ to catch his breath, he starts moving.
LZ bites down on WY's shoulder, as hard as he can, instead of letting out the loud moan his body wants to release. The slide is... easy. Slick. So overwhelmingly good. It dawns on him that WY's little trip must've been to grab lube, and he simply didn't see it.
WY moves inside him, thrusting hard, and LZ can do little else but take it. If he felt stronger, he would move more, meet him with every thrust, and chase his own orgasm on WY's cock.

Like this, though, feels... just as good. Being at WY's mercy. Trusting him. Being his.
"Mine," WY says, like he can hear LZ's thoughts. He bites LZ's earlobe, puncturing his skin slightly, and then licks on it. "You're mine."

"Yes," LZ says, lost in pleasure, every little bite WY gives him making the euphoria in his body peak to a new level. "Yes, Wei-"

"Say it."
"I'm yours," LZ says. WY moans above him and fucks him harder, hitting the right spot with every movement. "Yours, ah- Wei Ying-"

"No," WY growls, making every hair on LZ's body rise. "/Mine/."

And LZ understands.

"Yours," he murmurs, closing his eyes. "Yiling Laozu."
"Fuck, Lan Zhan, I'm gonna-" he says, so low, so pretty, right by LZ's ear. "You're so-"

"Yes. Yes. Please," LZ can feel his own pleasure building already.

"I'm gonna take a little bit more," WY says, and LZ nods frantically. "You can give me a little more. Right?"
"I can," LZ says, holding WY's head down, angling his neck to the side. "Take it. Take it."

"Tell me when you're about to come," WY says, thrusting harder. "You taste so good when you're-"

"Now," LZ cries. "Now, I-"

WY bites down on his neck, and fucks him through his orgasm.
LZ screams, this time, unable to hold back when his body is so overtaken by pleasure. WY's lips close around his neck, taking his blood, and he spills inside LZ with a pretty, animalistic sound.

When LZ comes down from it, WY is still sucking him, slowly, almost absentmindedly.
WY is sprawled on top of him, which is good, because suddenly LZ is very cold. There's a mess between their bodies, but LZ doesn't care. He tries hugging WY closer, but his arms feel heavy.

"Hnng," LZ says, in the back of his throat. WY lets go of him

"Don't move," he says.
WY starts getting up, and suddenly, LZ is strong again, because he manages to wrap his arms around him just fine. WY laughs a little, and kisses his lips. He tastes like iron, and like something else. LZ can't put his finger on it.

"You need water," he says. "And a blanket."
Reluctantly, LZ lets him go. WY comes back before he can miss him, with room temperature water and a straw.

"Sorry, I didn't have cold water. My fridge is. Uh. For other things."

LZ drinks the water as WY puts the blanket on top of him and then climbs in right by his side.
"How..." LZ tries. He drinks a little more water. "How much..."

"How much blood?" WY asks, in the dark. "Not even a liter. It feels like a lot because of all the... activity."

"Mn," LZ says. He wants to close his eyes a little.

"Did you think I was gonna drain you, gorgeous?"
"I wouldn't mind," LZ says.

"Lan Zhan! If you're gonna be self-destructive about this we can't talk," he says, snuggling up to LZ's side.

They stay quiet for a while, enough for LZ to feel a bit of his drowsiness going away. It's funny. He can almost feel WY's serum inside him.
"Hey," WY says, hooking their legs together under the covers. "How did you know it was me?"

LZ turns to him. WY looks like himself again, dark eyes, and a young face. LZ hopes he's the only one who gets to see the other side of him. He doesn't want to share.
"You have the same patterns," LZ says. Which reminds him.

He brings one of WY's hands to his face and bites his finger, hard.

"Ow!" WY pulls his hand back. "What was that for?"

"For ghosting me," LZ says. "And leaving me in the alley."

WY has the decency to look guilty.
LZ takes WY's other hand, and bites on that finger, as well. A little harder.

"Stop!" WY says. "I can heal but I still feel pain!"

"That," LZ says. "Is for calling another man gorgeous."

WY's mouth drops. "It was you!"

"You didn't know that," LZ says.
"I know it doesn't make it better," WY says. "But I stopped calling Hanguang Jun that as soon as we kissed for the first time. It... didn't feel right."

LZ twists his lips. It only makes it slightly better. He nods, and WY smiles wide.

"Now stop bullying me. I had a hard time."
LZ raises an eyebrow. "A hard time being a rich and powerful vampire?"

"You're evil," WY says, then bites /his/ fingers as revenge. A drop of blood comes out, and he immediately licks it better. "I'm serious. You have no idea how awful it was, without your blood for two weeks."
"You didn't eat anything?"

"I did, a little bit. But everything tasted like shit. You're the best meal out there."

LZ smiles. It feels even better, hearing that directly from WY's mouth. From... Yiling Laozu's mouth. It feels a little surreal.

"Was it good?" LZ asks. "Today."
WY smirks at him. "I should've known you were Hanguang Jun from the way you like being praised so much."

"Wei Ying," LZ feels himself blushing. WY tracks the movement of his blood with the tips of his fingers. "Be serious."

WY giggles, the laugh moving both of their bodies.
"You were so good. In every way," WY winks.

LZ rolls his eyes. WY takes his chin and makes him look back at him.

"You were. I was getting your blood without your scent and I already thought it was amazing. But now, together? You're so much better than I thought. Hotter, too."
LZ wants to kiss him, but WY isn't done talking.

"I should've known it was you. No one has ever been this attractive to me. In 200 years. Not as food. Not as a partner, either. And then, two of you showed up? That's no coincidence. Ma was right."

LZ freezes. "Ma?"
"My mom!" WY says. "She got turned when I was baby, and we lost touch. I was orphaned for most of my life. But the same woman who turned her turned me, and we eventually found each other again. After I became this."

LZ almost wants to cry. So WY wasn't alone, this entire time.
(me giving everyone their moms back because I want to)
This time, LZ does kiss him. He looks too pretty not to, and this is a little bit of everything he has wanted for the past few months. For WY to be happy. For them to be happy together.

WY accepts the kiss gladly, not holding back at all, sighing on his lips. Lan Zhan loves him.
"The only coincidence," WY says, after they've parted. "Is that you're also so... Incredible, Lan Zhan. So kind, so smart, so much fun to be around, even if you think you aren't."

LZ holds him close, and touches their foreheads together. "Wei Ying."
"I mean it" WY says. "I was willing to cut off my nose if it meant getting to be with you. But I dont know how. I would've!" he says.

LZ smiles despite himself, and WY smiles too.

"I love you" WY says, then presses his thumb down on his pulsepoint. "I'm not here just for this."
"I love you," LZ says, pouring every ounce of his feeling into it. "Wei Ying. I love you so much."

He clings to him as hard as he can. WY is not just here for his blood, but... They can't forget about their situation. LZ is very much mortal. And WY is not. How would this work?
"Hey, what is it?" WY asks, pulling back a little. "You just got all sad. What happened?"

"You can't die," LZ says. "I can."

WY frowns, and then his gaze softens. "Lan Zhan. It's okay. We have so many years ahead of us."

"We don't," LZ says. "I'm gonna grow old."
"That's not-"

"I'm gonna live 50 more years, maybe 60. And you'll look as young as you are right now."

WY cups his jaw in his hand. "You won't-"

"I will. I just hope we can live a good life together before-"

"Lan Zhan, shut up," WY laughs. "Wanna know a little secret?"
LZ blinks, and focuses on him. "What?"

"You know how getting too much of the healing serum makes you not get sick as much, right?"

LZ frowns, but nods. Where is this going?

"And you know how it's made from vampire saliva," he wriggles his eyebrows.

"... Yes," LZ says.
"So!" WY pulls him closer and makes LZ lie down on top of him, then bumps his nose. "Stop being sad. You're getting bitten by me almost every day from now on. You're gonna have a... Let's say, abnormally long life?"

LZ's eyes go wide. "How long?"
"I have no idea," WY shrugs, but his smile is huge. "But Song Lan and Xingchen have been together for at least 500 years, and Xingchen is definitely still human. He looks... I guess he looks almost forty, now."

"Five hundred-"LZ almost chokes on his own words. "That's..."
LZ takes everything in. 500 years... with Wei Ying? Is it possible? He wants that more than he can truly express.

"Don't be sad again," WY kisses his shocked face. "I hate it when you're sad. Smells bad."

LZ glares at him.

"I'm joking! As if you could ever smell bad."
"Even when I smell bad, you like it," LZ says. WY tilts his head at him. "You collect my sweaty towells."

"Oh. Yeah." WY closes his eyes, and leans down to kiss his neck. "I did that to get used to you faster. But now that's my second favorite Lan Zhan smell."
LZ holds him close, baring his neck to be kissed.

"What's the first one?"

WY bites him weakly, just a tease. "I think it might be Lan Zhan when he's coming. But I'm not sure yet."

LZ swallows, and tries not to let his pulse pick up too quickly.

It's useless.
WY hums a little, and snuggles closer to him, joining their bodies again.

"Maybe I should smell it again," he says, voice low. "To be sure. For scientific purposes."

LZ nods. He is not about to go against science.
"Bed?" LZ says. It's not that the couch is bad, but if he wants to have WY in every possible way tonight, they're gonna need a larger space.

WY hesitates.

"Um. I don't... actually have one," WY says. "I don't really sleep? I just kinda. Rest. And the couch is fine for that."
That is a bigger shock to LZ than him not having cold water inside his fridge.

"But I'm buying a bed tomorrow," WY says. "The largest one they have. Or maybe the tiniest one, so you have to sleep on top of me."

"But you don't sleep."

WY looks at him almost like he's offended.
"I'm still gonna spend the night with you," WY says. "Right?"

LZ smiles at him again. He has been smiling so much, lately.

"Mn," he says. He loves Wei Ying so much.

"Okay, then," WY says, then turns their positions to climb on top of him. "Now, about our science experiment..."

AU where 35-year-old WWX is reminiscing, telling a story to his son. It's about his youth, and how a single decision can change your entire life.

It's the story of why he decided to break up with his first boyfriend, Lan Wangji.
They started dating very young. Both of them 15, not knowing that life sometimes has its own plans and that mere mortals can't do anything about it.

"He was everyone's crush back then," WWX says, looking far into the distance. "I had to fight a lot of people to get a chance."
Sitting on his lap, his seven year old son looks at him with wide-eyes. He asked for a story. WWX is giving him one.

"We were each other's worlds, you know," he says. "I was everything to him. He was my everything. The love only teenagers feel."

WangXian competing to see who gets the best grades all throughout school 😔✊ LWJ gets angry bc he never sees WWX studying and yet he's always up there with him 😔 WWX always teases him about it when he gets better grades, but when LWJ does, WWX just laughs like he doesn't care
He doesn't get angry like LWJ does, he only says congratulations and that he'll get LWJ next time. Which only makes LWJ more angry because he KNOWS WWX is only putting on an attitude to seem superior
They end up doing a lot of projects together, because whenever one of them joins something, the other one joins too. Teachers pair them up all the time because they start thinking they love to be together.

LWJ falls in love reluctantly. But the anger is still there, going strong

AU where WWX has been thinking. You know. He's been having Thoughts™. He's been contemplating, if you will. Because, well. Sometimes he sees parents with their kids in the playground. He sees dads taking their kids to school. He sees moms with their children. And he Thinks™.
He and LWJ have been together for 6 years, and living together for 4. WWX is more in love than he ever was. But lately, he's been thinking... What if. What if they added a person to the family. They could do it. They're in a comfortable place financially. It just feels right.
He keeps seeing children everywhere, too.

One day, he and LWJ go to the mall for a date. When they go by the theather, they realize quickly that it's PACKED with children. It's apparently the release date for a really cool children's movie.

au LWJ would totally use WWX as an excuse to get out of social events he doesn't want to go to after they get married.

Coworker: Hey, a bunch of us are going to the karaoke! Are you coming?
LWJ: No, thank you. My husband is home early so I'm going home too.
Another day, his coworkers are excited about the company party happening soon.

Coworkers: You're coming, right?
LWJ: No. My husband has a day off. We have a date.
Coworkers: Cant you change the day of the date?
LWJ: No.

(They don't even have a date. LWJ just doesn't want to go)
LWJs HS friends call him and tell him they're doing a reunion.

LWJ: *glances at WWX*
WWX, already knowing what this is about: Go ahead.
LWJ: I can't go. My husband is sick and I have to take care of him.

WWX, as soon as LWJ hangs up: carry your sick husband to bed, Lan Zhannnn

AU where LWJ gets a call on his landline one day from an unknown number. When he picks up, a nice woman tells him it's from the jewelry store.

"Jewelry store? he asks, ready to tell them it's the wrong number.

"Yes, we just wanted to let you know Wei Wuxian's order is ready."
LWJ pauses. Wei Ying bought jewelry? This is weird. He didn't tell LWJ anything.

"An order?" he asks. "For what?"

"Um..." the woman's voice hesitates. "How do I see-" Oh, here. Two platinum rings."

"Platinum?" LWJ asks, shocked, before the rest of her sentence hits him.

Wait.
LWJ stops for a second. Could it be...?

It could, couldn't it? He and Wei Ying have been dating for four years, living together for three. LWJ himself has thought about asking WWX to marry him, but he never did it out of fear that WWX would think it's unnecessary or too soon.

Teenage WWX would absolutely start dating LWJ at a young and impressionable age and immediately get a tattoo of LWJ's name

When they eventually break up because of life reasons everyone tells WWX to cover it up, but he never does. He looks at the tattoo fondly even years later.
Like yeah, maybe he regrets that the tattoo is so big on his shoulder. And maybe it's awkward having to explain to everyone else he dates after that that this is his first boyfriend's name... And no, he never covered it up and no, he doesn't really want to...
"But it's not because I still have feelings for him or anything," WWX always has to explain, laughing it off. "It's not like that at all!"

So yeah, the tattoo makes things a little difficult sometimes. But he can't see himself without it.
