The Senate will also be hearing from future Judge Nusrat Choudhury (nominated to EDNY) AND future Judge Nancy G. Abudu (nominated to the 11th Circuit)!
I was proud to sign a letter supporting Judge Choudhury's confirmation (I can't seem to find it on the Interwebs), but here is @SenSchumer's nomination announcement:
And last month, the former public defender, Caryn Devins Strickland, testified to Congress about how inadequate the judiciary's response was when she reported sexual harassment.
one favorite memory i have of justice breyer (and there are many) from my time clerking for justice kennedy is when justice breyer sat around the table in his chambers and recounted some of what he thought were "embarrassing" questions he had asked at argument.
too many justices -- too many lawyers -- think they are infallible. and they take themselves way too seriously.
justice breyer was willing to sit around with his clerks & other clerks and admit some of his less great moments.
he was also unfailingly kind. he let me basically work from his chambers for a few weeks and hang around his chambers all the time.
in a sane world we could ignore as irredeemably dumb comments by people (1) who call a sharp opinion by a Black judge angry/contentious, (2) who invoke model minority tropes while criticizing "lesser Black women"; (3) who criticize POTUS for wanting to nominate a Black woman...
... when several prior Republican presidents have promised to/sought to nominate women!
but one thing we could take from these lines of attack is: if this is what they're going with, it's a pretty good sign these potential nominees are eminently qualified and should be confirmed quickly.
yesterday the faculty voted in favor of granting me tenure (!!!!!!)…..
so now I get to wear what I want to work. 😈🧣😈🧣
(sweater a gift from @danieltdeacon &🧣a gift from some of the students who make this job so amazing.)
I am SO excited, grateful, & … PHEW!
I wouldn’t have this job without @danieltdeacon who moved around the country with me AND took care of me (literally) when I was a fellow trying to get a tenure track job and had to undergo 3 ankle surgeries that left me on pain meds, in a pain clinic, & sometimes unable to walk.
and @sbtobin made it possible for me to do the fellowship as that was happening.
