(1) The Scottish Government’s schools guidance on supporting transgender pupils will affect all children, particularly girls and their right to privacy.
(2)Girls are already losing single sex facilities, like toilets. This is damaging to their physical health and risks their safety. There is already a rise in sexual harassment and assaults on girls in schools.
(3) Individual teachers will be responsible for supporting transgender pupils. The guidance recommends that they don't pass on information to the child’s parents or their fellow teachers, if the child requests this (Confidentiality, information sharing & child protection, p. 35)
(4) The guidance mixes up gender with sex, and transgender with transsexual. Transsexuals have had surgery and take hormones to try to `pass` as the opposite sex after a diagnostic process lasting 2 years.
(5) The meaning of `transgender` is not well established, but covers those people who feel that they were `born in the wrong body`.
By doing this the Guidance mixes legally protected characteristics, such as transsexual, with rights which are only claimed by transgender people.
(6) The guidance embeds transgender issues throughout the school curriculum. It suggests changing lesson plans to include focus on the gender of people who are the lesson's subject.
'Good Practice' is to have classroom & whole school displays advertise transgender issues.
(7) `Social transitioning` for transgender people includes changing pronouns, changes to behaviour, dress and use of toilets and other facilities and services.
Such transitioning makes medical transitioning towards being a transsexual more likely.
(8) Changing pronouns imposes a duty on staff to use the 'correct' pronoun for the pupil: the guidance is careful to 'forgive' staff who use the wrong pronoun by accident.
One child is reliably reported to have changed gender 10 times in one term.
It's called manipulation.
