"respects and propounds Atheism like Hinduism does. Isn't that glorious"..
Even someone who reads graduate course level Hindu philosophy book on Darshanas will know how much "respect" various schools had for Atheism. Particularly of the Carvak kind.
"Propounds" is an overkill.
Hinduism acknowledges that Charvakas and other flavours of Nastikas exist. Mere acknowledgememt of existence doesn't mean "respects" "propounds". Infact one will see aggressive attempts at refuting the nastika streams. Beginning with Carvaka.
+
But that is ok. That is for regular offline Hinduism. For internet Hinduism different standards apply. Here the stripes are earned by your ability to argue against the "other". On that count the OP is famous for his takedowns and rebuttals on Islamists, Leftists etc.
+
That is good enough for Internet Hinduism. Let us not confuse that with the core of the practicing and contemplative high philosophy aspects of the religion though.
+
We just acknowledge the existence of Carvaka stream in Chapter 1 of Darshanas only to refute starting Chapter 2.
This is a good reference to learn more on how real rebuttals are done.
Sample the resistance of Devadasis here. No one told me of this in school or in university.
Devadasis -> Prostitutes . This is what we were told.
It is some sort of a intellectual crime to deprive generations of this knowledge.
In an ideal world non-left wing should seize the momentum here and bring these questions back to public discourse. Not much happens on those lines barring sporadic attempts. Hindus predominantly are reform pilled and share tonnes of guilt about their past
+
From Douglas M. Knight Jr's book "Balasaraswati - Her art and life"
"When Muthulakshmi Reddy introduced the Prevention of Devadasi Dedication Bill in the Madras Legislature in 1927, the devadasi community organized the Deputation of the Devadasis of the Madras Presidency.."
And such books are buried away from public gaze because they don't suit the leftist agenda. This book with an MRP of 599/- was purchased by me for 195/- in Chennai few years ago. Still remember the bookshop guy lamenting that no one reads such stuff anymore
Neither the left wing nor reformist non-left wong would want you to read such accounts. Afterall why should anyone have any other emotion for tradition other than disdain, guilt and remorse?
Had shared these lines from the book here in the past. Sharing once again.

"In the traditional world, it was the artist who determined the terms of the engagement; in the modern world. it was the administrators of the institution"
This will be a pinned thread to capture some of my video and text based outreach on Dharmic topics in recent past (2020 onwards).
Putting this here just for ease of sharing and ready reference.

A talk on the works of Mahamahopadhyaya Acharya Sri Pullela Sriramachandrudu gaaru. His works in Telugu-Sanskrit have been immensely helpful for me in getting my basics right on Dharmic matters
+
This is a talk on understanding the confluence of Dharma-Ecology-Economy. It is a topic that bothers me a lot. Sharing this talk in the hope that it bothers you as well!
Got a reading reminder of S Radhakrishnan. Something I read years ago. Those lines seem quite relevant to yesterday's Carvaka slugfest.

"Sensitive and informed minds believe that the fundamental need of the world, far deeper than any social, political or economic readjustment, is a spiritual reawakening, a recovery of faith"
Spiritual reawakening and recovery of faith is critical. It gets lost in GDP kanging
+
Ideally the spiritually reawakened intellect should guide the actions in social, political, economic sphere. Atleast that is how it was in the past. Just because operating or acting in those spheres is possible without a spiritual anchor doesn't mean it has to be that way.
@dhume
Sorry missed your tweet.
I don't know if there are papers and articles. Sample these two pages on Carvaka. Atheism is a nebulous term. I'd restrict focus to Carvaka.
This passage is from this book in the image here. Captures what I was trying to convey.
You know what they do after this? They will jump straight to some specific kinds of forest people and indigenous people.
In case it isn't clear to you - Hinduism or Sanatana Dharma won't make the cut for them. That is Aryan coloniser religion per them.
+
They have a very Marxist definition of primitive communism. They will only seek ecological wisdom from authentic indigenous peoples per that definition.
