🧵Harsh realities of Baseball Parents: The Journey is filled with ups and downs. Here are a few (of MANY) of the mistakes I made as a baseball Dad...
🧵 Your High School athlete is going to have days of social stress. You cannot see it, you will not here it, most of all you probably won't recognize it. The stress of a teenager, girls, friends, schoolwork, weight of expectations are burdening the student athlete play a role
🧵Your student athlete is going through a massive physical and mental maturation. While they may look like an adult, in reality they are still a child. They will make mistakes that will make you scratch your head but from mistakes come a learning opportunity..
🧵 Your student athlete has no script to follow, they are actually writing their own script. Nothing we did as parents is the same for them. Same sport but different game, different times. Let them fall, its ok for them to have an "off" day. Expect them, accept them and listen!
🧵Your student athlete has a heavy burden we never had...That burden is SOCIAL MEDIA! While it's great when the sun is shining, we must not forget the depth some can fall to and the comments create a bullseye on our athletes
🧵Your student athlete will someday be a parent. Will you want them to be LIKE you or be the ANTI you? My biggest mistake was trying to be " Coach" and " Dad" at the same time. Just be a parent, listen more talk less. Always remember Ice Cream or Tacos after games!
Your student athletes see the world in weekly/monthly clips. Adults see the world in years/decades. They don't need the burden or stress of " what's the next level" Let them play, let them learn and then they will understand " What's next" The journey is best part of the memory!
Your student athletes during a car ride home do not to rehash or play back a practice/game. Tell them you love them; you enjoy watching them play and be there when they have questions or concerns. Today's tough plays are best discussed tomorrow! #The Process
