For the day's last #Future Compute session are going to be talking about cybersecurity. There is never a dull moment in this space and we’ve got a very good collection of smart people to help us make some sense of it.
Our first guest is @likethecoins, the director of intelligence @redcanary. Katie is immensely talented and respected in the cyber threat intelligence field and that’s exactly what we’ll be talking about here today, her perspective on the threat landscape. #FutureCompute
@HowellONeill calls the last few months of a uniquely busy time in cyber, with Russia's invasion of Ukraine. @likethecoins calls the invasion a very localized cyber conflict. We haven't seen global implications yet, she says. #FutureCompute
The risk of cyber threats is not distributed equally, Nickels says. #FutureCompute
We don't know what the nature of what "cyber war" could look like yet since the idea is so new, she says. #FutureCompute
What's the state of the ransomware ecosystem since the Colonial Pipeline attack?

There's a huge risk in ransomware on focusing on high visibility events. Just because there hasn't been another attack like that, there are likely hundreds of unreported incidences. #FutureCompute
What changes are happening in cyberinsurance?

Making sure institutions have better security in place. Policies are getting a little tighter. Payout amounts can be limited. #FutureCompute
How important is attribution in cyber attacks?

It depends on the situation, and it's very, very hard to attribute an attack to a given country or group, Nickels says. #FutureCompute
Next up, we have @royalhansen, the vice president of engineering, privacy, safety, and security at Google. He drives the information security strategy for the company’s technical infrastructure. #FutureCompute
There are few companies on earth whose infrastructure touches more companies, people, governments than Google. The scale, visibility, resources, and what they do with it all add up to make Google one of the most interesting players in cybersecurity. Let's dive in. #FutureCompute
One thing Hansen is working on at Google is keeping track of where code comes from. #FutureCompute
What does the next 5-10 years look like?

Change is happening so quickly. Modernization is providing an opportunity to standardize the technical infrastructure. #FutureCompute
How has the security landscape changed in the last 20 years?

For on, we're still dealing with the secure software development lifecycle, Hansen says. #FutureCompute
What's ahead in the next two decades?

Taking care of aging infrastructure, which is happening now, and industry specific solutions to security problems. #FutureCompute
Now, we'll hear from Brian Gattoni, the chief technology officer for the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, also known as @cisagov. #FutureCompute
What are Gattoni's duties as CTO?

Data work, enterprise architecture and keeping an eye on future technology. #FutureCompute
Gattoni thinks about CISA's technical vision. Because of the government budget cycle, he thinks often of what's coming in the next 3-5 years. #FutureCompute
How do you attract and retain the best talent as a government agency?

The mission of the agency is key. #FutureCompute
@HowellONeill cites the Colonial Pipeline attack for changing the conversation around ransomware. But what's the role of government?

The voluntary reporting part of the process is very important to CISA for now, Gattoni says. Could change if needed. #FutureCompute
That's a wrap on day one of #FutureCompute. We'll be back tomorrow with more conversation on the next generation of technology innovation. Grab a virtual seat here: trib.al/Ti54cRC

For our last chapter of #EmTechDigital sessions, we'll hear from AI researchers and then to close, David Ferrucci from @elementalcog will pull back the curtain on AI.
First up: @agrimgupta92 from Stanford is interested in how the form of a machine changes its ability to learn, shifting the focus away from learning algorithms operating by themselves and onto learning combined with a kind of bodily evolution. #EmTechDigital
@agrimgupta92 .@strwbilly covered how Agrim's work could unlock AI for robots late last year. #EmTechDigital technologyreview.com/2021/10/19/103…

We're back for the last #EmTechDigital chapter of the day, hosted by @StrongReporter. We'll be talking about one of the hottest things going in the field right now: generative AI.
@StrongReporter Generative AI is what we mean when we talk about creative AI or AI art--including technologies that can draw and pains or that can gather and use information to write things like articles. #EmTechDigital
@mikebhaley of @autodesk says no design problem exists by itself. And generative AI can be used to solve those problems. #EmTechDigital
