1/14 This is a thread with facts about the high-security penal colony to which Putin ordered Alexei Navalny to be transferred.
According to reports from convicts, it’s Penal Colony No. 6 (IK-6) in the town of Melekhovo, Vladimir Oblast.

2/14 Abuse and torture are used against inmates in many Russian prisons, but IK-6 in Melekhovo is a monstrous place even by such insane standards.
On June 6, 2018, prisoner Gor Ovakimyan was murdered there after many days of torture.

3/14 The colony administration concealed his death from his relatives for almost a week. When the family did find Ovakimian's body in the morgue, they saw stun gun marks, broken fingers and toes, damaged genitals, and bruises all over his body.

4/14 The death certificate listed the cause of death as "pneumonia”.
Ovakimyan told his family that he was being tortured - beaten, hung on a rack - for refusing to cooperate with the administration and writing complaints.

5/14 In March 2021, "Mediazona" published a letter from Ivan Fomin, a prisoner in IK-6, who cooperated with the colony administration. He described how he and other "activists" beat Ovakimyan, after which he died.

6/14 Ivan Fomin himself was systematically beaten and threatened with rape if he did not cooperate with the administration. Other inmates were also beaten and raped in front of him.

7/14 On 12.03.2019, inmate Ayub Tuntuyev died in IK-6. The administration stated that he committed suicide. Tuntuyev had previously complained to the ECHR about torture in IK-6. He was beaten and threatened with poisoning if he did not sign a confession

8/14 Prisoner Artem Gribanov told about torture in IK-6. Six people threw him on the floor, tied him up and actually raped him with a baton, trying to force him to give up his lawyer, who secured a criminal case in connection with the previous torture

9/14 Pavel Zotov, another inmate of IK-6, told how five "activists" dressed in police uniforms demanded that he sign some documents. They beat him on the heels and on the genitals and threatened to rape him. He agreed to sign.

11/14 Jobir Zhuraev, another inmate of IK-6, said that he was forced to stand in the cold in his underwear, was regularly denied food, and was systematically beaten and humiliated. He slit his wrists and tried to hang himself.

12/14 On this video, inmate Alexei Polyakov describes how he was beaten as soon as he arrived at Melekhovo, genitals were brought to his face. Later he was held in a punishment cell, forced to eat from dirty dishes and threatened with hanging

13/14 All of this is just the tip of the iceberg. These are the testimonies of prisoners and their relatives who dared to talk. Most of them are too frightened. One can only imagine the real scale of beatings, torture, and murders at the Melekhovo colony.

14/14 Melekhovo is a high-security colony. Conditions there are already worse than in other prisons: fewer parcels, fewer visits. But it's even worse than that: there is no law there. And that's where Putin wants to put Navalny for not being afraid of him and telling the truth.
