We in #NY21 have paid @RepStefanik about $1,300,000 to represent us so far. We provide her with great health benefits and vested her in a lifetime pension. Your money.
A minimum wage worker in 7.5 years earned about what she made in her 1st year.
1/
Median household income in #NY21 is $59,000. Household.
That means many many families of 2, 3, 4 or more are living on less than $59,000/yr. Does inflation hurt them? You bet it hurts them.
But half of all households earn more than $59,000/yr

While Democrats have been fighting to increase the minimum wage to help people on the bottom of the income scale keep up with inflation or hopefully get a little bit ahead - remember Social Security is based on highest years income, starting at higher wage increases SS payments…
GOP has been fighting better wages for working people.
Then they give giant tax breaks for people at top household income.
1/2 of all households make more than $59k/yr, but thanks to Dems there is a floor, minimum wage, about $24k/yr for 40hrs/52 weeks.

1/2 of all households make more than $59k/yr.
THERE IS NO TOP END.
Congressional reps make $174,000/yr. Not bad. Much higher than median. Good for @RepStefanik but don’t forget that isn’t household income! She has a husband. He works. Safe bet they make $250k/yr min.

There are households in #NY21 with more than $1 million/yr. Some with much much more. Good for them. Some of them are my customers and I can tell you they are nice down to earth people.
Some, or most, of them are very generous with charitable donations.
They do good things
6/
But they are not paying their fair share of taxes.
America is not a place. America is all of us, together, a shared commitment to justice for all. Most of those in the bottom half of income are spending nearly all their $ just surviving, and paying taxes.
7/
For top earners median income of $59k is a rounding error.
For those households inflation is not even an annoyance except maybe their newest vacation home will cost a bit more. It is beans to them.
Beans to me are now $1.39 a can. 2 years ago they were 99¢ (deal) maybe $1.09

In my business I sell high end, hand made products. I work hard. I price fairly for my work. I do not charge more to people who earn more. That is not fair. That is not just. But I have plenty of customers who will drop $6,000 on a chandelier for their great room in their camp.

God bless them! I appreciate the work. And I’m not angry at them. They are very nice to me. But I want them to pay a fair share of taxes so that the people in the bottom 1/2 of median can drive on good roads, have clean water, raise their kids in a safe world.
