Earlier on my #WalkForPlunkett I tweeted a pic of a former bus shelter converted into a library service. It made me look out for so many village assets no longer in use which once provided essential services, housed key workers, created employment & brought #communities together
I didn't come across any village services, businesses, or even people for over 10miles until I reached the amazing @westburyshop which was a busy and thriving #communityhub and testament to the resourcefulness of rural communities to take action themselves
The only new services or investment in the countryside I came across was the construction of HS2 - but of course this doesn't benefit the communities it cuts thru- only the urban centres at either end...
@PlunkettFoundat is an ardent supporter of #levellingup all parts of the UK but it is critical #ruralcommunities are included in this agenda and not left behind. Not all rural communities have the resources and confidence to turn to self-help, and nor should they have to.
If rural communities are to be left to fend for themselves to provide services, jobs and housing, organisations like @PlunkettFoundat will be vital to ensuring they are given the support and expertise to help them create sustainable #communitybiz
This is why we work across government, & with Trusts, Foundations, & Corporates, but also why community fundraising campaigns like #walkforplunkett and becoming a @PlunkettFoundat member is so important in raising awareness of the combiz model and raising funds.
