The left seems to be gearing up for another summer like 2020, this time over abortion, and twitter is already filling with apologia for intimidation protests at people's houses, rioting, and the most thinly veiled calls for political violence. Here's why that's a super bad idea:
This approach did not work in 2020. It was tried. Everything the far left is saying they want to do to fight for Roe, they tried it with BLM in 2020 and what'd they get? In terms of actual substantive policy, they got nada. Goose egg. Zilch.
There has been no substantive police reform, and virtually every jurisdiction that defunded has backpedaled on that and then some, with Democrats doing everything possible to distance themselves from the defund rhetoric they openly admit hurt them in 2020 congressional elections.
BLM's polling is underwater and the Biden administration won't take their calls. The opportunity in the wake of George Floyd's murder has been wasted and meaningful criminal justice reform is likely dead for years. Why do you think the result will be different for abortion?
civiqs.com/results/black_… BLM was up 24 points after Floyd, and they blew that much political capital without getting anything done. Now their entire approval bump from Floyd is gone, their disapproval is higher than it's ever been, and there's few undecideds left to win over.
The net result of summer 2020, in the long term, has simply been to take about 10-15% undecideds and convert them into dedicated opposition. The political malpractice here is unbelievable. They were up 24 POINTS, and they blew it, got NOTHING, and made their brand radioactive.
Now bear in mind how much worse the current circumstances are for a similar summer of rioting than they were in 2020: Trump is no longer in office, we're not in lockdown, anger about the economy is mostly aimed at Democrats.
The ingredients for the public to tolerate a boiling over of anger at the Republicans into street violence are no longer present, nor can abortion protesters expect every major corporation to line up in lockstep endorsing them and promising donations, DeSantis saw to that.
plus, it's only been two years since the last explosion, and it's still a raw wound. You can't do this every election year! Certainly not while still running on outrage over 1/6, which was basically the same thing, a mob trying to forcibly change a vote in the halls of power.
The left must ask ourselves for the next six months, about every course of action we intend to undertake, "will this help to elect Democrats in November?". And this will not. Another summer of rioting, violence, and apologism for the same will have the opposite effect.

#TerrorOnThePrairie Okay, serious thoughts (spoilers): Good movie. Slow to start, but once the proper action gets going it's tense as fuck and incredibly gritty and realistic. I'd be hard pressed to name a western with more attention to the gunplay and tactics.
@ginacarano sells the HELL out of her part, though the guy playing her husband is a bit stilted in his dialogue. Nick Searcy is an utterly detestable villain and it's incredibly satisfying to watch him and his scummy band get picked off.
To my honest surprise, it isn't "piss off liberals: the movie". It's a serious, earnest work that refrains from going down a checklist of progressive sacred cows to slaughter. The conservative viewpoint that undergirds it is clear but not anvil-dropping.

The tide has turned. The pendulum is swinging back, and it is swinging HARD. Some of the manifestations of this (Elon twitter) are good, others (Roe v Wade) are horrible. But it's happening, the culture war has moved to a new phase, and SJWs: WE FUCKING WARNED YOU! 🧵
Seriously! All of us on the dissident/more libertarian left, moderates, centrists...we warned and warned and warned for a decade that the woke, illiberal cultural left would push so far they would generate a terrible backlash, and you didn't listen at all!
10 years of acting so damn certain you could just steamroll everybody else and those salad days would go on forever! "The right side of history", like some biblical prophecy that your final victory was ordained. You were in a position of strength, so why negotiate at all?!

Okay, so what is currently circulating regarding Roe and Casey is a draft decision written several months ago by Justice Alito, he writes it as though it's the opinion of the court, but that doesn't necessarily mean it is. We can only be sure that it's HIS opinion.
It could be, essentially, his opening offer in a negotiating process among the justices, an idea floated to see who he could get to sign on, and who would want tweaks and concessions for their vote. It may not be representative of the final ruling at all.
But the fact that someone leaked it...suggests it is, in fact, the direction the court is leaning. It is impossible to overstate how shocking and unprecedented such a leak is, and I can only imagine it coming from a desperate person making a hail Mary attempt to stop this ruling

Today in Kenosha, a jury found #KyleRittenhouse not guilty on all counts.

They reached the legally, and I believe morally, correct verdict.

The system worked...this time. But let's take the opportunity to talk about how it sometimes doesn't, and came close to failing here.🧵
Rittenhouse was fortunate enough to have the things a defendant is supposed to have, competent counsel and a sympathetic judge. Not perfect counsel, mind you, as a defense attorney myself I could backseat-lawyer them all day, but they did an overall good job.
A lot of people had concerns about the impartiality of Judge Schroeder, who repeatedly intervened on the defendant's behalf and seemed to hold the prosecution to higher standards than the defense. But this is actually how the system is SUPPOSED to work. It just...doesn't always

Things like the OnlyFans porn ban don't happen in a vacuum, they're outcomes of a trend of new-Puritanism that's been growing in our culture over the last decade, on both the right and the left. See for example: video games. (thread)
The days of Lara Croft's giant chest triangles and Supergirl flying around in a bare midriff and miniskirt are basically gone. Female characters like that just don't get made anymore (outside Japan) because they'll be labeled "objectified" and "sexist" based on male gaze theory.
Likewise, the promotional models of days past have disappeared. No more booth babes at E3, no more grid girls for Formula 1, no more Carl's Jr. ads where you forget they're selling burgers, even Victoria's Secret ditched the angel image. And feminists have largely celebrated.
